Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

My daughter was so excited to receive her wii this morning! She knocked me over she hugged me so tight!

Anyway, we have a question...we have been playing the Carnival Game and even though we have two wiimotes, it is only allowing us to use one. We keep having to pass it back and forth. The second wiimote is synced as the hand will show up when it is waved across the sensor bar but we can't use it to "engage" in the game so to speak. Is this normal or should we be able to each use our own controller?

Thanks!

Merry Christmas Everyone!:santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:

Carnival might be one of the games where you pass. SOme of them do this. Or there might be options for you to play one at a time or together. Just pay attention to the menus and the different game modes. You should find your answer that way. Unfortunatly I don't have the game, but I know many around here do, so maybe someone can help better.

Lots of great posts today! Everyone please come back and give us reviews of everything after your families have played a bit!!

Yay! I got Mario Galaxy, Zack & Wiki, Super Paper Mario, Mario Stikers: Charged, Phantom Hourglass, & Star Fox: Command :) Haven't played any yet, because my cousin woudl wanna play and I won't let him

Okay, I got this from IGN:
The multiplayer mode has several options. Up to 4 people can alternate using one Wiimote, or each can use an individual Wiimote, and participate simultaneously in the appropriate games (only one player may toss a skeeball at a time). Players can opt to choose games individually, or have a CPU-dictated assortment of 5 games, with the highest score determining the winner.

SO it sounds like before you start the game you should have an option or a different mode to play where the wiimotes can be used at the same time. SO check over those menus.

Nice List!! Come back with reviews. I'm thinking maybe we should have a rating system for the thread for your games. 1-10 with 1 being horrible and 10 being perfect. And if everyone would please include what ages enjoyed the games and how many players you had and other stuff. I could keep track and put together something, so we'll have some famly reviews instead of just relying on the press.

What do you think?

Short reviews with a score, who played (who you think its appropriate for) and why you did/didn't like it.

I am new to this, I don't even have a Wii yet. I decide that I would try to get one after Christmas, a present for myself after I got my taxes done( I thought I might have a better chance of getting one then, I hope anyway).

Anyway I am looking for some good games that would be interactive where you have to move and not just be sitting down all the time. I am 28 and my mom who is in her 50's has shown interest that she would like to try it too.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about the game, Boogie?

And does anyone think Disney would ever make a Wii game that anything to do with the Parks? I could total see that as a game, now that's what I would love to see!

Thanks in advance!

We are now the owners of Mario Galaxy, Trauma Center New Blood, Mario Vs. Sonic at the Olympics, Mario Party 8 and will have Raw Vs. Smackdown tomorrow. Also got the sports kit, skins, wheel, gun, charger, boxing gloves and classic controller and points card. "Wii" are loaded with new Wii stuff...lol.

Well, the kids got Guitar Hero III, Mario & Sonic Olympics, Super Mario Galaxy and Wario Smooth Moves. When everyone came over for dinner, my nephew brought over Playground. If they weren't playing Guitar Hero, they were playing Dodgeball in Playground. What a fun game!

Guitar Hero looks very cool - for those with hand/eye coordination. ;) DS and DH have started their own careers. One thing I noticed - the 'whammy' bar on the wii guitar doesn't work. :( I guess I will call Nintendo in the morning to see if they have any tips or can help me get a replacement.

Our replacement Wii console arrived on Christmas Eve and works great. A Nintendo rep called me on Saturday to apologize for the hassles and ensure the pre-Xmas arrival of the replacement. I had e-mailed them about the CSR who offered me remote jackets "for my troubles" and then finding out that those weren't really an offer because a DISer had mentioned that everyone can order up to 4 extra jackets. The rep said he thought it was "weird" that the CSR did that and the rep offered to send me an extra nunchuk at no charge.

Unfortunately, we couldn't play Wii Sports because it was stuck in the old console. I think it would have been fun with the rest of the family together. We did have Rayman Rabids II for a party game. It was a hit. We tried Wii Play, but only two can play and the games weren't too exciting.

Grandma got him Mario and Sonic at the Olypic Games. He was very excited for this one and opened it first but he's irritated at it and says it's "stupid". Apparently he's doing the motions that the game instructs him to do but his guy isn't running, jumping, whatever, properly. He's a big video gamer and definitely knows how to work things so I don't know what the problem is. I told him he might just have to practice at it to get the hang of it but he thinks it's just not properly responsive and therefore "stupid". He's put it away for now and will hopefully revisit it another day. Anybody else get this one? Do you find that the character responds properly to your commands?
Quoting myself to see if I can get any feedback on this game. Anybody else get this and play it yet? Any comments on getting your character to respond properly?

I went back and edited my post (#1619) to include scores.

The girls loved their Wii. Of course, DD10 was a little tired from trying to stay up to see Santa, but overall it was fun. We got Playground, and we LOVE dodgeball. I'm sure our girls will love it too if we ever let them play it :) They really want to play tetherball, but in the multi-player mode we can't figure it out. How do we "unlock" those other games to play multi-player or can't we?

We got this one too. I watched the swimming for this but not much else. I know some characters are better at certain things than others. I think it may just be you need to get the hang of it. I hope that's it otherwise it won't get alot of play at our house.

Oh I just remembered watching table tennis and that one worked fine from what I could tell. The games with running or swimming are different though.

Anyway I am looking for some good games that would be interactive where you have to move and not just be sitting down all the time. I am 28 and my mom who is in her 50's has shown interest that she would like to try it too.
Well the Wii comes with Wii Sports which has plenty to get you up and about such as bowling, tennis and boxing to name a few.

I am not familiar with Boogie but you can prob read more about it by searching here www.ign.com.

The first post in this thread has a list of my favorite party games. SO those would be good to play together. For more active games Wii Sports is the best and Wii Fit is coming, which might be right up your alley. It comes with a balance board and you'll be able to exercise with it. go to ign.com for more info or keep an eye on this thread since I'll be updating with more info on Wii Fit as I'm really excited about it. Anyway other active games include Wario Ware, Sonic v Mario Olympics, and DDR.

Disney will never make a parks game for the consoles. There was one out for the first Nintendo and they've never done anything since. The closest you will get is VMK, which is online witha computer.

Boogie is on my list of games not to buy (second post). It gets old really quick and is very disappointing. Great idea, but they didn't follow through. Something like it will eventually come out that will be worth playing. We'll let you know.

Yo need to call Red Octane, not Nintendo since they make the game. I had some problems with this too. You should try unplugging the wiimote. When you plug it back in make sure the connection is good and then push the wiimote into the guitar AS FAR AS YOU CAN. It should be flush with the face plate almost. If it's not, the game will lag and the whammy won't work. Try that first cuz I had the exact same problem until DH figured I wasn't getting the Wiimote in there right.

I'm glad they got it to you and did a little extra. Wii Play definitely isn't exciting, but I really like it for building your wiimote skillz.

Quoting myself to see if I can get any feedback on this game. Anybody else get this and play it yet? Any comments on getting your character to respond properly?

I have not played, but the problem you describe is common to other games. The best advice is to watch your timing and speed. Some games need you to be fast with the wiimote, while some need slower more fluid motion. I'm sure that's the problem. You just have to practice til you get what the game is looking for.

Usually you have to play through all the unlocked games to get to the locked ones. Maybe you have to get a high score or go through the game in single player mode.

Hope this helps!

Good morning - I finally get to post in this thread!

We got a Wii and a few games for Christmas - Wii Play, Mario Galaxy, Cooking Mama, Big Brain Academy and HSM.

We've been having problems with one remote - it just doesn't seem to work. I've changed batteries, synced it several times, but it's not reading, I guess. The blue lights come on but that's it.

My other problem is that everytime we go back to the menu, the whole thing locks up. I turn the console off & on, then we're fine. But I can't change games or anything without rebooting. (I'm probably totally using the wrong language here ;) )

Anyway, I'm enjoying the games so far! Gotta work on my coordination though. My cooking mama concoctions are BAD so far!

Looking forward to the Wii Fit too!

Just FYI budget Wii shoppers...target has some AWESOME deals on several good wii games...I know they had Raving Rabbids 2, Mario Galaxy, Raw vs. Smackdown, & Mario/Sonic Olympics for $37.00....I wanted Galaxy, but they were sold out, so the guy gave me a rain check...just fyi

Cheers,
Josh

Just wanted to say a quick "thank you" to those who responded to my posts a few weeks ago looking for advice. I went w/Resident Evil for DH. He seemed pleased...hasn't got to play it yet, even though the Wii was HIS present. My kids ADORE it. I needn't have bothered getting them anything else. Wii Sports and Wii Play were big hits at the in-laws' house yesterday. DD11 got Harry Potter and DD8 got Disney Princess. My only complaint is that it looks like DD8 may complete the game today and she really hasn't played all that long. All in all it was money well spent.

My kids are DS8 and DD11. They got their Wii on Christmas Eve after a series of challenges, including math because I am evil ;) and started with Wii Sports and Wii Play. Christmas morning added Lego Star Wars, Pokemon Battle Revolution and Super Mario Galaxy to the gaming options.

Here are their scores on the 1-10 scale with 10 the highest.
Lego Star Wars, DS8 gives it 10, DD11 gives it 8.
Pokemon Battle Revolution, DS8 gives it 9, DD11 gives it 9.
Super Mario Galaxy, DS8 gives it 10, DD11 gives it 9.
Wii Play, both give it 8.
Wii Sports, DS8 says 3 (he has co-ordination issues), DD11 says 7.

They said they would highly recommend any of those games for kids aged 8-13 and for their dad who is 700. ;)

With Carnival games, once you select multiplayer you have to flip the board underneath the competion or head to head signs. You will see a board that has 4 faces. Flip it using the A button to the board that shows an arrow from each face to an individual remote. Then you won't have to swap remotes. Everyone can use their own :)

As for our household, the Wii has been a HUGE hit! Santa (DH & I) actually played it for about an hour and a half on Christmas Eve. It was played pretty much non-stop from about 10am till midnight yesterday. Here is the run down of our games

Super Mario Galaxy - LOVE IT! (although it can make you a tad dizzy at times) Glad DS#1 got the guide for this for Christmas. We got the Collector's edition. It is very nice & really helpful so far.

Carnival Games - The whole family loves it. We will have a lot of fun playing this one as a group.

Thrillville off the Rails - DS#1's favorite. Everyone likes it as well. Really fun if you like minigames and amusement parks.

WarioWare Smooth Mooves - I LOVE this game. Super fun but I wish there was a way to go over the little mini movies faster.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 - DS#2's favorite.

Madden 08 - DH likes it but says he has to get better with the nunchuck

The other games received but not played yet are:
Star Wars - Complete Saga
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
MLB Power Pros
Nicktoons Attack of the Toybots
Wii Play

I'm glad DH talked me into having 4 remotes. Although they won't be used all the time we have the ability to all play at once if we want. Glad we have a second nunchuck but I don't think we will need more than 2 of those.

Our Nyko charger works great except when we opened it one fo the metal contacts was broken off the second dock. I have to call the company today to see what can be done about that.

The only word of advice I have for anyone (over the age of 25) before they play is makes sure you have enough Tylenol in the house because you are going to need it! I have muscles in my arms and back that are so sore that I never even knew I had before!!!

Hope everyone else is enjoying their Wiis!!! :) The Wii was by far the best gift in our house (the Brownies loss to the Bungals came in a close second :teeth: )

Hi everyone

So we opened the Wii last night and played all the sports games. DD(9) loves the bowling and tennis.
DH and DD have been playing today and he called me and said he mastered tennis and bowling. I mastered bowling last night rolling strike after strike.

We got DD Sims Pets but I think we might get bored and this thing will be put away after a few months and never used again. Any ideas to prevent that from happening?

Disney will never make a parks game for the consoles. There was one out for the first Nintendo and they've never done anything since. The closest you will get is VMK, which is online witha computer.

I'm curious as to why you think this? Disney actually put out a game for Walt Disney World on the Playstation platform a few years ago. It is a racing game that DS#1 loves. He can race through the different parks/rides. I would love to see them put out something else!
