Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Wow! That would be frustrating! As for the remote skins everyone with a Wii can get 4 free ones so he really didn't give you anything for your troubles.

OK... so I admit I know VERY little about the whole Wii thing. But how do I get the free skins? TIA

Merry Christmas!

Hi! Thanks for all the info. I have a wii and some game cube games. Now I know that you need game cube controllers to play these games but I do not know what controllers to get without buying the game cube itself??? Any suggestions on brands or a good price to be on the look out for :confused3

TIA :goodvibes

My son has an attachment that lets him play his old gameboy games on his gamecube. Will he be able to use this on Wii or will we need to keep the gameboy? Also can new DS games play on Wii at all, or interface with it somehow?

Thanks

:sad2: Figures. Not that the skins were really any consolation anyway, but in the back of mind, I did wonder why he was offering some remote skins for the hassel, but he didn't offer to throw another Wii Sports disk in the shipping box to replace the one that's stuck in the broken Wii. They're making us return the broken Wii and waiting for the Wii Sports disk to be extracted and then will return the disk probably 10-14 days later.

Thanks.

Can the Wii and a DS Lite be connected to play with or against eachother? If so, how is it done?

Yes, the only game thaqt does it right now is Pokemon. There are more games coming, but that's it right now.

As for how its done...the pokemon are transferred from the DS to the Wii using the Internet connection. I think that's how all the games will interface--using WiFi.

Very Upset. Got the Wii back today and they didn't fix it. It still will not eject a disk. This time, I tried "Wii Sports" because if it didn't eject, I figured my girls could at least play that one vs. Call of Duty. Glad I at least did that, so there's something to wrap and a few sports games to play.

I called Nintendo and kept saying, "I'm not technology illiterate. Surely, if I push the button that says, 'eject', the disk should come out. Right? I mean, I have CD players, DVD players, VCRs and when I push 'Eject' something happens." Anyway, the CSR was now saying that they have had problems with their East Coast repair company in East Syracuse, NY. The company is United Radio. Evidently, this is a reoccuring problem that Wii's are returned without being repaired by this location and I was told by the Nintendo CSR that all Supervisors are automatically involved now with a reoccurring issue from this facility. Nintendo is sending out a console replacement now that is labeled shipping "Red", which they stopped short of saying "overnight". The Nintendo rep wouldn't guarantee the replacement in time for Christmas, but tried to be optimistic. The new console will not have the "Wii Sports" disk, so he said that when I returned the broken console, they would remove the "Wii Sports" disk and send it back to me. He tried to ease the frustration by throwing in 4 free remote skins.

That is NUTS!! I would be furious. What crap! They sound like Microsoft. I would right a letter for sure.

The only controllers I recommend are the ones made by Nintendo. The other companies all have a history of being crappy. You should be able to find them at used game stores or on Ebay.
I've seen wavebirds (wireless, made by Nintendo) for $30. But should be able to find tghe wired controllers for less. You can get non-nintendo ones for really cheap and for how much you'll use them, that should be fine. Honestly GC controllers can be a bit ard to find since a lot of people are doing what you are doing.

Don't forget that downloading Virtual Console games might end up being a good option too.

No you can't use that with the Wii. You need to keep the GC for that.

The games will probably be available on the Virtual Console (like Dr Mario). I doubt they'll make anything to play DS games on the Wii.

See the first question in this post for that last answer! :teeth:

They loved nintendogs when that first came out but haven't played it much lately. My youngest likes Zelda and one of the Sims games, the one with the Alien. I'm kinda thinking maybe Spectrobes for him. The older one loves anything sports so he's more difficult and he prefers playing them on the tv not the DS so I think his DS is more for DH and I to play with and let him borrow it occassionally. :thumbsup2

I don't know maybe I'll just pass on DS games for now.

I didn't see much on that list and I had searched and looked at lots of reviews over at ign earlier today. We'll see if anything gets my attention shopping this weekend.

You said before that your children didn't like pokemon right?....IF that is the case then DO NOT buy spectrobes as it plays ALOT like pokemon...you have to collect monsters to fight and all.

The reason that they can not send you a Wii Sports disc is that the game is not sold seperately in the US. Therefore the us office would not have an instock.

I know it is probably very frustrating, but It sounds to me like Nintendo is definately trying to make sure you get a system to play by Tuesday. Good Luck..hope it gets there! If not Sports should be a blast (just don't waste time making mii's since they are stored on the system you'll have to re-imput them in the new system.)

Had to share! Juat scored a Wii console today! I hadnt been able to find one myself, but my boss was at Sams Club when they got a pallette of them in and was nice enough to secure one for me! Needless to say, I raced over and paid for it before he decided to put it on Amazon! LOL. :rotfl2:

Also stopped and picked up Super Monkey Ball, cant wait for christmas morning!:thumbsup2

Ok so we picked up Trauma Center: New Blood, Mario Party 8 and Mario vs. Sonic Olympics, any reviews, pros/cons. Also I see Wario listed as a party game, however the box only says 1 player?!?! I thought it looked VERY cool but not if it's only for one. The thing we like about the Wii is that we both play and it's loads of fun...=o)

Please correct me if I am wrong, but the wii JACKETS are the items that are free with the Wii. Wii skins are different. They are more like stickers you apply to your wiimote to decorate or personalize it. That's my understanding.

They look like this....

The wii jackets (free for older systems and included with currently sold systems) look like this...

Actually the ones that are in different colors arent skins, they are gloves. What you show for the gloves ARENT the ones from nintendo that are free. Those are the ones like what I have on my remotes and nunchucks. In order to get those you have to buy them in stores. The ones from nintendo that are free are clear and the top part isnt covered, just the bottom and sides. To see a pic go to nintendo.com, and theres a pic of it on the main page. IMHO, the ones you get for free from nintendo are UGLY looking. I like the ones you buy SO much more. They just look better not to mention they cover the entire remote. We've had our wii since launch day, and our remotes and nunchucks still look brand spanking new thanks to the gloves.

Just wanna quickly add, skins are like stickers you can put on your remotes and nunchuks. They dont protect the remotes or nunchucks like the gloves do. The skins can be easily removed and 99% of the time dont cover the entire nunchuck or remote.

So my kids got their Wii - thrilled and shocked! They've been playing a couple of days and we're having some issues.

1. Is it normal to have to re-sync your remotes everytime the system is turned off?

2. The system seems to "freeze" at various places and the only way we can fix it is to unplug it from the power source. Actually, right now it is stuck and I can't seem to get it to do anything.

What should I do?

Thanks so much!!!

I think it's your serial number. DH always handles this one. He'll be around later I'm sure (he's on Christmas break from teaching, so he's got nothing better to do :p)

I had the same question about the Friend Code...glad your dh and you know lots about the Wii!

Funny, I never noticed you are a Clevelander as well. And your DH teaches, so does mine. Mine teaches at a small public high school in western Lake County. He is now officially on Christmas Break. Yours?

Trauma Center is quite fun...I mean really it is fun to play Dr.!

Mario Party 8...I've had a lot of fun playign this with multiple people, but it is quite booring to play by yourself. (it's really fun to trun into a drinking game at a party of adults...if you want more info on that Pm me)

Mario vs Sonic....havn't played it but I've heard both good and bad things, perhaps another poster can tell you more about it.

Wario...I'm pretty sure wario can beplayed multiplayer, but you share one remote.

1) NO...What you need to do is read int he instruction book how to do a one time sync. There are 2 ways to synch remotes one makes it so that all your remotes are assigned a perminate wireless wavelength on your system. This is what you should do to set up all of your remotes. \
The other option is to synch a remote that a friend brings over it will work until you power off then you'd have to synch it again.

2) I'm not sure what you mean by it's freezeing up...Is it durring a game or on the wii menu? Make syre you have plenty of ventilation around your system as heat can cause it to sometimes stop working.

If it's durring game play it could be a scratched disc. or the drive could be corrupted(in which case you'll have to contact nintendo)

Any more info you can give would be helpful.

Thanks for answering. I had already gone thru that process to sync the remotes and I was still having the same problem. We also called Nintendo customer service this morning. They were helpful...I guess. After going thru everything with them, the short answer is we have a defective Wii and wii mote. They are sending us a new one but it won't be here until MAYBE next weekend. So much for enjoying our Wii over Christmas break.

Merry Christmas!:santa:

Just play with what ya have for now! Only bad thing is you have to re-synch the wiimote when you turn it on correct?? So it's still atleast playable!

What did they say about the freezeing thing?

You're right, re-synching is not that big a deal. But the console is not playable. Each time we try to turn it on, it "freezes" at the main menu screen. The sound stops and it won't respond to the wii-mote or to pushing any buttons on the console. The only way to reset is to unplug the power source. The first couple of times the "freezing" happened, it was during a game so we just had to start over. But now we can't get past the main menu. Oh, well. Even though we just called this AM, our replacement has already shipped so we should have it sometime next week.

Thanks for checking. You and your wife have been such great helps to so many of us looking for Wii's and trying to decide on games, etc. for our families. Thanks for all your help. Wishing you the Merriest Christmas Ever!

Christy

Ok, are there any games out there for a 4 yr old? What would be good for younger kids?

Rayman - its a great game to play solo & with the others. Its a great party / family game and good for all ages. A couple others that are great for everyone and to play multiplayer would be carnival games and mario party 8. My newphew who is 2 LOVES those 3 games. Especially Rayman. He LOVES shooting the bunnies with plungers - he gets a good laugh out of it and get so excited when he wins the challenge.
