Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Thanks HarleyQuinn and The Horned King for answering all my questions! After reading this post my hubbie went and got another remote and nuchuks.

I just got it out of the box (kids sleeping) and made sure it would work properly. Glad I did the Wii could not recognize the game at first. Not sure how I fixed it, but I did!

Thanks for all the help!:goodvibes

Actually the ones that are in different colors arent skins, they are gloves. What you show for the gloves ARENT the ones from nintendo that are free. Those are the ones like what I have on my remotes and nunchucks. In order to get those you have to buy them in stores. The ones from nintendo that are free are clear and the top part isnt covered, just the bottom and sides. To see a pic go to nintendo.com, and theres a pic of it on the main page. IMHO, the ones you get for free from nintendo are UGLY looking. I like the ones you buy SO much more. They just look better not to mention they cover the entire remote. We've had our wii since launch day, and our remotes and nunchucks still look brand spanking new thanks to the gloves.

Just wanna quickly add, skins are like stickers you can put on your remotes and nunchuks. They dont protect the remotes or nunchucks like the gloves do. The skins can be easily removed and 99% of the time dont cover the entire nunchuck or remote.

Hi Teresa,
You might want to reread my post. I was replying to someone who was offered 4 free skins from Nintendo because of a problem they were having. I was merely pointing out that skins are different from the free jackets supplied currently with the Wii system.
While the skins are no big deal (and I personally don't care for them), I did want the OP to know that they were being offered *something* for their trouble versus the same thing everyone gets for free. It's not a big something but it is something. Just trying to make that OP feel a little better. :goodvibes

Merry Christmas everyone!

I know you were replying, however, you said the skins looked like those that you showed in a pic, and I was just simply telling you that they arent skins, they were gloves, thats all.

Last minute suggestion needed....

Can anyone suggest a good Nintendo DS game for a 14 year old boy????

It can't be sports related as he is not interested in that at all. Thanks!

My Wii from amazon was delivered yesterday ( Very happy as they said it wouldn't be delivered till monday, so it was early :) ) Yesterday I rented Super Paper Mario, and played that most of the day but today I actually played the Wii Sports game, and I can't tell you how much fun I had with bowling, tennis and baseball...IT's a blast....

I posted this as a question on a new thread just a moment ago but might get better response on here.

I have no clue if this has been asked and do not have the time to read all 100+ pages for this I am sorry.

Does the wii need batteries or need to be charged in anyway? If so I really need to know ASAP. We have had this since September and hide it at my parents house the whole time. I have no clue what it needs and just thought of the idea of my son waking up to his Wii and not being able to use it because he mom was too distracted to think about these issues.

Thanks a head of time for your reply.

LOL just answered your question on your thread and directed you here for more info.

You won't need anything additional. It comes with batteries. But if it's been sitting since September, it might be a good idea to have some backups. The remote takes 2 AA batteries.

Yeah I had already posted here too. lol I answered you with a question. lol Too funny. I think I will go buy more AA batteries. I have 12 though and that is not counting what is in the box.

What about Zelda - the Phantom Hourglass? Not sports related and a REALLY cool DS game!

I know several 14 yr old who still play the Pokemon games - both Diamond and Pearl are DS version but you can also play any of the GBA games - Sapphire, Emerald, etc...

Does he like puzzles? If so, Puzzle Quest is a good game. There is a story line to follow and play or you can just do some instant action puzzling.

Hope that helps!

well folks....my DF flipped out last night when I gave her the Wii for christmas! She was totally shocked!

We got it set up and running last night. Don't have a Wi-Fi connection yet, but my friend has an extra USB Wi-Fi piece so I can connect the Wii to the Net. Hope to get that from him this week.

So yeah...awesomeness!

Cheers,
Josh

We opened our presents yesterday. We just couldn't wait anymore. lol My honey loved the DS Lite and all of the goodies and games. She was sooooo surprised and I wish that I had taken a picture of her face when she opened the package. It was priceless.

Thanks to everyone that helped! Maggie

Well, the Wii is a big hit here today! And my kids are older, 21,20, 18 and 15.
I got the Wii starter package thru Walmart.com, no regrets on skipping lines at stores, or driving around looking for it. Returned some of the games it came with. In our case, I got 2 additional regular controllers (2 came with package), and it already came with 2 nunchucks *great for the boxing game.* I got the classic controller too, because I am sure we will download some games later.

Wii looks good on the 42" plasma. ONE thing I love, my daughter is 15, almost 16. She sometimes has boys over (just friends), and they used to watch dvds, talk, whatever. She felt like they had nothing to DO (she has been ill, had surgery, and is in a wheelchair for another 2-3 months, so they can't really go out for a walk, etc) So, I love this Wii thing, they can goof around with it, laugh, etc. Her brothers have the far more serious X Box 360, they play the competitive online, violent games, (they are adults, so I do not worry anymore about that) But this Wii is far better for entertaining. :happytv:

Well, DF and I scored some Wii games for Christmas!

Mom and Dad bought us Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
My cousin bought us Mario Party 8
My aunt bought us Lego Star Wars the Saga

We're thinking about buying Mario Galaxy and Raving Rabbids as well...we got some gift cards and target is having a sale starting tomorrow! Wahoo!

We sat up playing Wii play last night! its been fun so far! DF loves it...oh and so do i!

Cheers,
Josh

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!

DS is already downstairs playing Guita Hero III for the Wi. We had fun putting on the stickers, then I played one round (horribly!) and now he has started his career.

Happy Gaming!

I've been lurking on this board for awhile and I just wanted to say
  WE LOVE OUR WII!!!
Santa made ds9 and ds10 go on a quest through the house to find the things they would need (batteries, charging station, wii play, games, etc.) If was so much fun to watch them. We have played bowling and tennis and now we are on to Guitar Hero III. I bought 2 bundles so they could play together. It's been such a good day! Hope everyone else is having fun!

Hi Everyone,

Well, my DH has been playing Starwars the complete saga since noon!!! Will he ever stop????? I have been playing with my Dolphin Pet game for my DS - I wonder what else Santa has brought - we havent opened up everything yet!! Oh well, i guess just enjoy it all, right? Have a great day!! Merry Christmas!:santa:

I have to add that DS loves his Wii. I am so glad we lucked upon one in September. Otherwise, I would not have hunted for one. We bought the Sports edition so he had a few games on there and then we bought the special set with the remote at Best Buy that came with more games. I think that one had 10 games. He also scored a Mario game from his grandfather. He has some money to buy some games as well. I have to admit it is a cool gaming system.

Merry Christmas.

My daughter was so excited to receive her wii this morning! She knocked me over she hugged me so tight!

Anyway, we have a question...we have been playing the Carnival Game and even though we have two wiimotes, it is only allowing us to use one. We keep having to pass it back and forth. The second wiimote is synced as the hand will show up when it is waved across the sensor bar but we can't use it to "engage" in the game so to speak. Is this normal or should we be able to each use our own controller?

Thanks!

Well, we've had the Wii since last Christmas but DS12 and DD15 got quite a few new items for it today. Here's the list:

DD15(who doesn't play video games at all) got DDR and she LOVES it! Santa had brought the Mario version for the game cube in the past and it wasn't a big hit as it wasn't the real DDR with good music and things. This version is fabulous and just what she wanted! She doesn't care for the hand motions and it seems you can turn those off in some modes but not all. We also pulled out the Mario dance pad and she and DS were able to play 2 player! They were so happy! You can unlock additional songs and stages by playing. I know DD's gonna get a lot of use out of this! So far so good. Score: I'd give this a 9 for the teenage set. DD15 is not a gamer but really likes this and DS12 who's not a dancer in any sense of the word also really likes this. Being able to use the gamecube dance pad for 2 player mode was a real plus too! I'm sure adults would like it too (but if I played I'd have to set it on "beginner" for sure! It looks like it could be pretty strenuous)

DS12 got 4 Wii games.

He got Metroid 3 from Santa (which he's rented before and likes but hasn't gotten far in it at all). He didn't open that one today as he knows what it's about and wanted to try the other games. He likes this one a lot though and Santa also brought the players guide for this one. Score: I haven't played this but DS12 as well as DH have checked this one out. I guess it's complex enough to keep DH interested but simple enough to keep DS interested. DS isn't up yet but I think he'd give it a 7 or an 8 and I'd say ages 10 and up. We invested in the players guide for this as DS couldn't get very far in it without googling walkthroughs.

Aunt and Uncle got him Zack and Wiki. He and his dad are checking that one out right now. They've been at it for about 45 minutes. Seems like an interesting puzzle/quest kind of game but a little slow moving(at least in the beginning) and lots of reading. They've cleared the first stage, met Barbaros and are somewhere in the middle of the next stage/level now. Score: Unknown at this point as they've just gotten started. From what I could see, I'd say a minimum age of about 8 or older, lots of reading and thinking involved. I'll have to ask DS12 for a score and see how he rates it.

Grandma got him Mario and Sonic at the Olypic Games. He was very excited for this one and opened it first but he's irritated at it and says it's "stupid". Apparently he's doing the motions that the game instructs him to do but his guy isn't running, jumping, whatever, properly. He's a big video gamer and definitely knows how to work things so I don't know what the problem is. I told him he might just have to practice at it to get the hang of it but he thinks it's just not properly responsive and therefore "stupid". He's put it away for now and will hopefully revisit it another day. Anybody else get this one? Do you find that the character responds properly to your commands? Score: It looks like it could be a great game! But at this point I think DS would give it a 3 or so because he couldn't get his character to do what he wanted and he found it very frustrating.

We got him Mario Galaxy which we know will be a hit but he hasn't opened that one yet. I'm sure that will be on the list for tomorrow. Score: Unknown, not played yet but I'm sure it will be a high score!

He also got Zelda for the DS which he played in the car on the way to Grandma's house today. He says he likes it but hasn't told me much about it except that he's on a boat. He hasn't had time yet to delve into it too deeply. Score: I'd have to ask DS as I haven't seen it but I'm also guessing this will be a high score!

DD15 also got Red Steel for DH and DS. I know it doesn't get good reviews but for $8 it was worth a shot as a filler game. This hasn't been opened yet so no score thus far.

Good thing they're off of school for a week and a half so he can properly attack all these new goodies!

So, what games did you get? Give us some mini reviews!

Not sure, we can't even get ours synced together yet:confused3 . To be honest, we haven't had a quiet moment to really read the manual yet, so that could be why. Does your remote ever go crazy? The little hand will start flying all around the screen on it's own? Ours has done that, and no one is moving it:confused3 .
