Congrats to everyone and their Long Runs this weekend! We are two months from the big weekend and it looks like we are all still 'moving forward' in our training plans.
I am always encouraged when I read the posts here! I learn a lot from hearing how you all are doing. Those who had a challenging run this weekend, don't get discouraged. It is all part of the preparation process. I mean, consider if you never had a hard run until Race Day. You wouldn't know how to react and recover from that.
We train to learn what works and what doesn't. We train to figure out our hydration and fueling plan. We train to figure out our pacing strategy. We train to build our endurance. We train to develop our mental toughness.
We train to test our limits, perhaps extend them, and to develop a strategy to get us to our goal. Having a strategy for when the legs are tired, the feet are hurting, or the knees are twingy is just as important to success as knowing how 'the perfect run' should feel to us.
And perhaps, we are out there running because we have come to love the sport, the freedom, and the feeling of being more fit and healthy.
Yesterday, I ran 15 miles. I was not motivated. I was tired. I almost blew the run off. But I knew it was something I 'had' to do if I am going to reach my goal of completing the Dopey (5K, Half, and Full), followed by two more Fulls in Feb and March. It is an aggressive schedule for 2013 and I won't get there by being inconsistent (or by being reckless and getting injured).
So I got out there and completed that run. Running a Half last Saturday is probably why I am a bit sore still today (nothing a massage, the foam roller, and some hot tub time won't cure) but I am glad I got out there and booked those miles.
I am so looking forward to seeing all of you at WDW in 2013. All our hard work, foot time, and mental energies are going to pay off big time for us!
Go WISH!!!!!
