Ran a 10k yesterday so I could get in a corral. I did a 10:36 mile in 73 degrees!!:cool1: I'm so excited; I was thinking wow; what could I have done in say 50 degrees. Two questions: called RUN DISNEY left voice mail about time. Do I email the results or wait for them to get back to me?? Also, what is the average temp in Orlando at 5:00 am??? Thanks!

Email the results now but also plan on carrying them to the race. In the last couple years, Disney has started acknowledging the receipt of the new time. Your results should get you into the D corral plus or minus.

I will post a historical temp chart so you can look at the temps. The range since 99 has been from 28/29 up to the mid 60’s. On average, the temps are in the mid 50’s at the start.

I don't know about average temperature, but it was about 50 degrees when we started last year, I believe.

I also remember it being about 50 degrees at the start...and I didn't bring any throwaway clothes. Because I am dumb. :headache: It seems to vary from year to year.

I emailed my time to runDisney and they wrote back to me, so maybe try sending them an email with your new time: disneysports@trackshack.com

Or you can bring a printout of your time to the expo and they can take care of changing your corral at Runner Relations. Very easy to do.

Temperature varies -- In my opinion one never knows until we get closer to race day! Weather Channel says average high/low is 71/47.

A couple years ago (can't remember whether it was 2009 or 2010) it was snowing on race morning for the half.

Havent checked in for a while. I am slowly getting my miles back up. This whole knee thing really screwed me up. I should be at the same point as everyone who is training for the full but I am behind thanks to that month of doing just about nothing I am playing catch up. I will do a 10 miler at some point this week and a half thanksgiving weekend. I have changed my training plan and I'm going back to how I used to train and just increasing my distances. I know I will finish it just not going to be in the time I wanted but I will Finish

YES! Keep working at it and the distances will grow.

Thanks eveyone for the replies! I will email the results and bring them along. Praying for the lower temps.:goodvibes How many corrals are there?

The race has tradtionally had 8 corrals starting in waves over the last couple years. The half waves start on a 6 minute interval and full on a 4 minute interval. I would expect the full to mirror the half 6 minute intervals in 2013.

Here is a link to the 2012 final instructions so you can get a better view of what race day looks like.

I have taken the walk/run approach this time, but am still working on ratios and keeping an average pace. Last weekends 12 miler went well with a 2:30/2:30 and good steady pace around 10:20, so I'm thinking a 2 run/3 walk for this weekend and hoping for a 10:45-11mm.

I finished this past year in 5:04 and don't care if it takes longer this coming year.
.

Your times are really good with a walk intreval that is the same or longer than your run interval. How do you do that? You must really be running fast and walking fast on both of your intervals!

I keep playing with my run walk ratios but I always keep my run interval longer than my walk otherwise my time is hurt much too badly.

All you marathon trainees (especially first-timers)....did you ever think you would get to the point where you would be running half marathons as "training runs"--and not even your longest at that!

Stop and reflect on your progress to this point. You are doing amazing things.

Maura

Thanks. I needed to hear/remember this. And no, I never thought that would happen!

Hi Coach Charles:

My sister wants to know what corral our results will put us in? Could you speculate? And how many corrals are there?

10k: 1:15 (me)
10K: 1:18 (her)

Thanks!

Oh, girl...that is it! You can't be saying I did well with my 10.5 when you did so much more! Geez, I'm a slacker! Time to go run a few more!
Hugs!

Lol!!! Well my 18 was NOT pretty. I'm sure yours was very graceful and gazelle-like!!

50 degrees and you didn't have throwaway clothes? Here 50 degrees is shorts and tank top weather!:lmao:

Just hoping that its not like 2010 and sleeting!

Okay, I am on the iPad app and can't see where your "here" is! :rotfl: As a native Ohioan I don't think 50 degrees is so bad...at least that's what I told myself as we bounced around in the corral area trying to keep warm...in between cursing myself for forgetting clothes. I only remember being cold standing in line for the porta-potties, when we were moving round it was okay, and it was PERFECT running weather. :upsidedow

I am SO behind! My longest run has been 12 miles and that was a while ago. I've done 9, 10 and 11 miles, but they have also been a while ago.

My work schedule has been so intense that I had to join a gym that has longer hours to try and get more long runs in. I'm freaking out at this point--because I'm pretty sure I'm screwed!

I don't have another free day this week to do a long run and haven't run in 2 weeks. I thought about cutting back from the Galloway plan to not hit 26 miles, but I'm very worried that I'm too out of shape to do this. I'm hoping I can do it! I need to get my head back in the game! :(

So I ran a Marathon 3 weeks ago and had so knee pain during the race, I was able to finish with by changing my stride(the knee pain mostly went away with a heel strike). So I then took about 3 weeks off and ran 4 miles Thursday and 8 Sunday, without pain. I think I am going to be able to get ready for Goffy but will feel much better if I can get a solid 12 in this weekend.

I also started to try the Iron Strength workout to try to strengthen some underused muscles. That workout is HARD. I had trouble getting into a chair for two days afterward.

kmg148 Don't freak out yet! There is still time to do this. I am not a Galloway user, so I can't recommend modifications to your plan, but there are still 2 months to get in solid training. You may have to modify your expectations about race performance, but you can still finish.

garner384Glad to hear you are pain free and running so well after your marathon. You must be one of those "quick recoverers"--unlike some of us. I also tried to incorporate some of the Iron Strength moves into my workout. I haven't been healthy enough this year to do the whole workout as defined, so I just have picked and chosen what I could.

Off to the gym to run an easy 4. Still building back up the mileage. Last week was 12 (yes, it is piddly, but it is what it is!)

Negative there... Trust me you are not to the point of being hopelessly lost. Let’s map out a recovery plan and see if we can toe the line together on race day.

I am assuming that you are running some. So let’s see if we can put a few APPOINTMENTS on your schedule. Put them into your smart phone and one any other calendar so that they will be there to bug you.

Let's try for 10 this weekend. The remainder of these suggested distances are based on getting to 10. If you get 10 on the 17th, shoot for 12-14 on the 24th. Head back to 10 on the 1st and 16 on the 8th. then 10 on the 15th and 16-18 on the 22nd. Finally, 12-14 on the 29th and 6-10 on the 5th.

This is not optimal. This will get you to a long distance that will get you to the start on Jan 13 and give you a chance for crossing the finish.

Hang in there...

KMG148 -- This is great advice. The only thing I would add is some tips on fitting them in. I am a morning runner only because if I didn't run in the morning I wouldn't have time to consistantly get the runs in. I have to leave for work at 8:15 AM. I am out the door for a run sometime between 4:30 and 5:30 AM depending on how far I am going that day. I have even started at 3:30 before.
