I would suggest you work on perfecting your walking stride since walking is much easier on the body and will help to make you faster when you finally get into the Galloway Method. Paying close attention to your stride and perfecting it could easily put you in the 13mpm/14mpm pace range, or faster.

Up to the ToT 10 miler, I have only walked my races. 4:56:28 for the 2011 Mickey Marathon, my first full and the last race of my first Dopey weekend then last November a 2:11:12 for the Space Coast Half Marathon.

I am now starting to jog after 32 months of walking training. I perfected my stride to achieve my maximum walking pace because I had no other choice due to bad knees. Now that I am adding jogging I find that I still walk faster than jogging so I will mix the two during my first Half Ironman Triathlon next Sunday.

Good luck and if you have walking questions, just ask. :thumbsup2

Hi john,

Can you help me where to go on perfecting walking? I signed up for the full and now the doc is saying I need to keep my heart rate under 162 (I'm 39) when doing the full. The Galloway method is getting it up over 170 even when I go slow. Only thing that works is walking. So I figure I'll need to walk a good portion of the full. :(. After, I think I'll try o start from scratch to try to increase my fitness level hopefully lowering my heart rate in the process.

Hershey Half Marathon today for my long run!

Good luck! Do you get chocolate at the finish? If do, I just might run faster, LOL.

I don't know about the Hershey HM, but I am doing the Chicago Hot Chocolate 15k in a couple of weeks and the finish line is a chocolate party including a chocolate fountain. I can't wait! Anybody here ever run one of these#

Did a 12 mile "training" run yesterday, Tri-State Tough Mudder, a 12 mile mud and obstacle course. Ran (jogged) all the way between obstacles. Lots of fun! I've never run that distance other than on these mud runs. I wonder what'll be like when I get to that distance on a pure run? Will I more or less tired? The obstacles zap energy, but give you a minute or two break. The man point of hope ill do well for the half is the fact after the 1st mile your shoes are wet and filled with mud so much heavier than a regular running shoe ill be wearing for the half, so it's gotta be much easier right?!? Lol

I ran the HC 15K last fall and had a great time! In fact, I used that race time for Disney corral placement. :)

The hot chocolate was amazing, but the chocolate fondue poured over fruit, pretzels, and marshmallows was to die for!

Hi all-

I've been lurking on this thread for awhile and finally decided it was time to come out of lurkerdom and say hello. So "hello!"

This is my first full marathon while DH will run the 1/2 which we'll be his third. This thread has been great inspiration to keep me on track. Did 17 miles yesterday for this week's LR and the last mile was definitely tough, but I finished and am not too sore today.

Good luck to all you racing today and doing your LRs!

Blair

There was chocolate at mile 11.5 and a huge Reese's peanut butter cup cookie and chocolate in a recovery bag at the finish. Reese's is also on the medal

I was confused. I thought you were talking about the hot chocolate but I see you were talking about the Hershey. How did it go? We don't get a medal at the hot chocolate but you do get a finisher's mug: http://www.hotchocolate15k.com/chicago/raceinfo/postrace/
mmmmmmmmmm

Put in a 10 mile "short run" today at the Army Ten Miler in DC. A little sad no cell phones were allowed, so I was unable to track my run. But I guess that is part of starting at the Pentagon.

Pace was actually on track for my second fastest half ever. And that was using a Galloway 2run/:45walk system. Amazing his effective that program can be.

Next up is the Hot Buttered Run up here in Portland area Thanksgiving weekend. Gonna try to get a decent time and jump up a corral (or 2). LOL.

Happy and Healthy running!

Pat

Moving away from the traditional heel plant way of walking has helped me the most. As I have mentioned in the past, Chi Walking basics helped me perfect a smoother much more efficient stride and listening to my body allowed me to avoid set backs from injuries.

I was thinking about opening a thread about my way to faster walking. What do you think?

Did the Columbus Half Marathon today. Ran as far as I could then my knees started really hurting again so I had to mostly walk the rest. Finished with 2:40:47 which is a 9 minute improvement over my last time but I was hoping to do a little better since I have been doing pt for the last month. Has anyone been so hurt after the Disney race that you can't walk around the park later that day? I can't imagine not going to the park but I am hobbling pretty good now.

I did TM Arizona last year about about a month before my first half (Disney Princess). The half was way easier than TM and since I realized I would be able to finish, I took my time and had a lot of fun at the half. Plus the recovery was easier. I had bruises all over for over a week after TM. Glad I did it but won't do it again. Can't say the same for halves.

Yes please. I may not walk the who,e thing, but finding a more efficient walking stride for walk breaks would be great!

Yesterday was my 3rd TM. I have another Dec 1 in Tampa and signed up for PA in June. I'm giving them too much $!

Try a Spartan Race! A little cheaper and timed, which I prefer over TM!

I think it would be fabulous and help more of us!
