Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

I'm a Goofy! First (and last) marathon. Both days I took it very, very slow and took very good care of myself. Finished feeling fine (but feet sore as all get out). Walked to the busses looking every bit like a finisher, and exited the bus like a centegenerian).

Pleased to have accomplished my goal despite injury back in the fall. Super pleased to be done, and not have to return all my completed-marathon gear!

Thanks to Liz, Zela, Joe, Coach Charles and others for all their support, companionship and advice.

Thrilled to bits over here on the bus home.

Well my dad and I finished it took forever..... We were doing well until mile 18 when my bad MCL decided to swell up and started hurting but we finished.

I cried like a baby when I finished. Many of you know about my heart issue but I have to make will about 4 years ago when I had my heart worked on so the fact that I am now a marathon finisher got to me.

I thought ESPN and 20 mile surprise were lame.

Courtney

Congratulations! What an accomplishment! You did it!!

It was brutal out there today. I hope everyone is safe. I finished my first Goofy, I am happy. Race report in a day or two.

Great job to all the finishers. (Which includes DW and me).
Courtney, I'm glad you made it, you should be proud.
Wvujules - how are you doing now?

Best part of ESPN was the turtle on the track.

WARNING - ***** session coming feel free not to read.

Why is Joey Fatone special. His wife got pregnant and he got to use her Goofy bib in his own name.
Never ran more than a 5k and slogged through goofy. Takes a lot of the joy out of it.
Then when he finished they stopped calling out names to talk about how his beer stop slowed him down.
***** OVER

Good job everyone.

Well, I'm goofy..it was my first and def last marathon. I finished around 6:40. I've tried twice to go to downtown Disney, but when I stand for a long period of time I get dizzy and light headed. Feels like I'm gonna pass out. So back to the room I went. Congrats to everyone on their races

I've heard that before :) There is a saying. You can't think about your next marathon until you get over your last one. Congratulations!!!

Finished in 7:14. Wanted 6 max but it was hot so I decided to enjoy myself rather than be miserable. Took lots of pics and I also was extremely underwhelmed by the whole mile 20 thing. DH and I agree that WWoS dragged. I did love the funny sayings in the side if the road when we got out. Took my mind off my aching feet.

Congrats everyone!!!
Sorry the weather wasn't optimal.

I'm sitting here in tears because:
A) I'm so proud of all of you
B) because I really really wanted to be there
C) because I promise I will be there for the 25th anniversary. That's my goal.

Congrats to all the marathoners and goofy's!!

So amazed and inspired by you all.
I said no way to marathon after the half on Saturday... But maybe?? Someday :)

Probably low on salt/sodium/electrolytes. My non-medical advice is a margarita

I am at Epcot. Nauseaous but I think that I have sun poisoning. I have blisters on my heels too. Heading back to the room soon to pack and go to bed. I only cried for an hour about it. I'm still teary that I failed. Not sure what to do with my medal. :(

At this point I'm sad that I didn't finish but I'm not sure I EVER want to try again. I swear I was deleterious at one point. I fought the heat and the heat won.

Just got up from a Post Marathon nap,my left thigh cramped up a little around mile 17 and then off and on so I walked 3/4 of it from then on,still managed ti finish 35 seconds short of 6 hours, for my First Marathon Im fine by the Time, especially considering the heat.

Well, considering I had not run over 6 miles at a time over the past 5 months due to some leg and work issues I was pretty happy with my marathon today. Ended up finishing in 5:35 about 20 min slower than my slowest marathon but considering the lack of training and the heat I can live withy it. BIG THANKS TO THE WISHERS OUTSIDE OF DISNEY STUDIOS NOT ONLY A MORAL LIFT BUT THE COOLWET RAG CAME AT THE PERFECT TIME. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

Finally back from celebrating at Epcot and watching all the inspirational people finishing in the heat.

I went with the full Peter Pan, with tights and hat. My hammy was gimpy from the Donald at the start, but loosened up after mile 3. It was still week and my quads were tired. Ran the first mile slow then slowly sped up. Stopped for about 4 character pics, and was glad to see Hook. Felt solid at half way and ended up with a 20 second negative split. Was underwhelmed by mile 20, which was just the Disneyland Half stadium routine. Nice, but not worth hyping. I think I ended up as second costume finisher behind a Tink. Ended up with 3:19, which I was very happy with considering my good Donald result.

I did pray for all the WISHers out there finishing after me as it was warming up.

Congrats to everyone and thank you to the WISHers whom came out to cheer today. It was fabulous to see you. In had a wonderful time cheering for the half at GF. I lost my voice for the rest of the day yesterday!

The race was great! I felt awesome and crappy at the same time. After mile 20 I lost a toenail and had to take my shoe off the rip the rest off. That took off a long time but I needed the little rest! It killed for the rest of the way but I kept telling myself that I was hardcore now :)

Love the medal. Love it around my neck!!

AMANDA-:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2. Very proud of you and all other athletes.

As always, there are some who do not complete the race but none the less, YOU TRIED! You trained and gave it your best today. Conditions were not really ideal for a January race. My suggestion would be to look back at your experience as a challenge that many would not even contemplate and train wiser if you decide to try again. Good luck in the future to all.

I flew my airplane wings on the first banking at the track then went to the top of the banking on the second turn. Slapped the top of the wall and raced back down. Might never have that opportunity again.

I also got my M&M McFlurry.

Congratulations to everyone!

It was a tough one out there today and there were tens of thousands of tough people out on the course giving it their all.

We were in World Showcase today, and had lunch in Moroccco. Right after lunch, I walked out to the course and had the privilege of seeing the last few racers run past that point on the course. This was right at 1:30PM - 8 hours after the start.

The last runner was a Goofy Challenge competitor and he had an escort of about a half dozen bicyclists.

A few yards behind them were the sweep carts and a few yards behind them were the Disney cast members picking up the yellow cones.

There were very few people left cheering in that section of the park except for a few Disney employees, but I cheered and yelled my head off for those runners. It was an honor to do so, and inspiring.

From looking through the results, I believe it took him another 20 minutes to cover the last mile from that point to the finish. Interestingly, he was last across the finish line, but not last in the standings. In his own division, there were 13 runners that took a longer elapsed time to finish the race.

I never really thought I would want to try Goofy, but today - after running the half yesterday - I actually felt like I could have gone out and run 13.1 again... if I felt like that, I can start to see a way to feel like I could run the Goofy. Maybe by the 25th anniversary race weekend, I'll be ready to try it.

Great job to everyone! You are all an inspiration to us newer runners.

Well, I did it too! Very surprised honestly with all of my injuries. I was in pain from the walk to the corrals and seriously considered quitting at mile 7 and many times after that. Hit a wall at mile 17. WWOS was my worst stretch--I walked the entire way until we got back out to the road. I got a second wind around mile 21, then the heat got to me at 23. Mile 25 was the most excrutiating walk of my life..but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world! I didn't know my own strength!
