Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

This is a non-running related post but I could really use some extra prayers. My mom collapsed on Christmas Eve and is in the ICU in critical condition. The prognosis is poor. This was completely unexpected. Please keep her and especially my step-dad in your thoughts and prayers.
I'm still planning to run the Goofy as she would never forgive me if I missed it on her behalf.

Amanda

So sorry to hear this. Praying for your family and the doctors treating her!

Good thoughts, prayers and pixiedust to all who need it -- especially Zelly and Amanda! pixiedust:

I wasn't so lucky today. I was goofing off with DS in the parking lot this morning on the ice and I fell back and busted my head open. Went to emergency clinic and got 5 staples in my head.

My neck is killing me and is going to be worse over the next couple of days. I was supposed to do 10 today. I think its going to keep me from doing anything until at least the weekend. At least my last 20 was last week.

:worried: Wow! That sucks!!!! Feel better!!!

Prayers for both of you and for your mom and family, Amanda!

Zelly, you are such an inspiration!!!

Well, my Christmas Eve long run didn't go great but I did 13 miles--9.5 at under a 15 minute mile....then bad chafing won out as I didn't want to end up in a world of hurt and I walked the rest. My phone died so did the math when I got back. Was slightly over a 16 minute mile average... but know what to do different for the Half--my trusty 5K shorts are not my friends so new option and I know for a fact I will push through any type of discomfort during the real thing. I'm pretty optimistic about my first Half in a few weeks!!! Hope to say Hey to some of you there!!!

Does the International Gateway at Epcot still open at regular time on Sunday (9am)?

Yes, not open for easy access to the start, but will open at 0900 for folks wanting to head up to the front of the park from the resorts.

Ouch, sounds a little whiplash like. Take care and I am sure that the docs said if you do start working out and your head starts throbbing to stop and get back to a doc.

Sorry, thoughts and prayers heads your way.

Lets not forget 2010! 70's on Friday 30's and snow/sleet/rain for the half and freezing for the full. I was standing in line with a bunch of guys from Brazil after the half for the bus and those poor guys were blue from the cold lol. Definitely knocking on wood as I type this. :worship:

Yes hoping for good weather 50 - 60's would be nice.

Should we make offerings of pixie dust and dole whips to the weather gods?
:worship: :rotfl2:

It's warm in N. FLA today 72F ugh! Hoping for a cool down 1/12 & 1/13.

Did a back on the horse six miles today. I haven't run too much lately. I went out Saturday but didn't make it more than a couple of miles. I think I was fighting a cold or something because my head was clogging up and felt really out of it. But besides my legs being a little stiff, I feel pretty good. I will probably need one or two more runs to feel back in the groove.

I am taking taper a little too seriously - I skipped running on Christmas Eve / Christmas Day and today a snowstorm moved in - so I am regretting it now! I got 5 miles in today right when the storm hit. I hope I can find somewhere clear to run the rest of the week. :/ I live in a rural area where I just run on the road and those won't be nice, and I know the trail is going to have 5 inches of snow on it too... At least I got my 20 in without any trouble!

I would argue that 'good' weather would be upper 40's and not 60's at the start. So maybe we could agree that good temps at the start would be low 50's and arm wrestle on whether 10F up or down was better??

Amanda, so sorry. Sending good thoughts to you and your family.

CaptHomer, hope the head and neck heal quickly.

My oncologist agreed to delay chemo until after the marathon. Woohoo! Hope to see some of you DISers there! I can officially start letting myself get excited...and nervous.

Merry Christmas everyone! I received a Christmas Eve present from my husband. He took me to have a pedicure ; two days after my last long run. The tech massaged my legs and calves with oiled hot stones!!! Oh my...it was heaven and totally took away the soreness!!

You didn't let them get rid of your calluses did you? When I go I say "Don't you dare touch those!". I need those puppies or my feet will be very unhappy come race day.

Funny you should ask me that because the tech was insistent that I do that; the language barrier was an issue! But I got out with my calluses intact! Yay!

I am wondering how many of you all are more focused on personal time versus seeing characters? My cousin ran a few years back and said how fun it was getting the pictures, etc.... I want to in one way but I find that I can get really caught up in my time. What are others doing??
