Official Vero Beach 2008 Swap Thread

Just got back Friday night from VB......group 3 in Chair Swap......we ended up not even using the chairs/umbrella. Didn't even get them from Bell Services, but, just hanging out at the pool instead of the beach each day. However, on our last day I did go to the Front Desk and asked about changing the name on the box. They took me back to the storage room to do so. There was only one box there (maybe the other two were being used??) The list was in the box and the names appeared to be ok on the list, but, the labels seemed to be mixed up. The next person for group 3 on the list was for the first week of June, however, there was no label for that person. The first label after mine was for mid June and there two labels before mine from April also. The CM told me they were using the list to determine who was to get the box and hadn't even used the labels at all. So, I did not attach a label to the group 3 box, since there was none for the next person, but, the list is right inside the top of the box for the person who is next.

Thanks for the update. Back when there were initial questions about the swaps, I sent lists to confirm who was part of the Disboard swaps. It does sound like they are just using those. :thumbsup2

That would be me! :yay: We arrive next Thursday and given that we overlap on our stay with Starbox I'm sure we'll be able to get everything sorted out if there's an issue. Did you look in the box at all? Has anyone added anything beyond the initial shipment?

10 days and counting. But who's counting?

No..... sorry......I didn't look into the box at all since the list was right on top. So, I don't really know what was in the box. But, I can say I only saw one box that size in the storage room, so I'm assuming maybe bell services did give the other two boxes to the other groups.

Might be a totally dumb question. I am in group #1. This is our first time doing the swap. It's my understanding we take the whole box back to our room to use for the week ? Or do we take the chairs etc out of the box ? May I ask, does the box fit in the closet or where are you all storing it while you use it ? We're in an Inn room.

Mia - last year we took the whole boxes and stored them in the room (they fit in the closet). I'm hearing reports that bell services may be just delivering chairs w/no boxes and using the lists I sent - I know there was a question about how much storage space they had. I'm hoping to check it all out in person in a few days!

BTW.....tried to add-on another room (Inn or studio) for Aug 11-14. My ds decided he wanted to come to see his sister off to college. No rooms on points. They did have rooms on cash----Inn rooms were $180/night. I'm thinking he might have to look offsite. I just don't know what's in the area.

We're paying 200$ a night for OVIR on cash - with the discount (in June), so 180 a night does not sound terrible - but I bet a waitlist would come through.
There are not any hotels that I can remember within 5 miles of the resort - but Vero Beach or Sebastian are not too far (Sebastian will be cheaper). I usually just priceline in cases like that and choose 3 stars or better.


BTW - I got an email from one of the managers at Vero and it looks like VB is just working from the list now and not using labels/boxes.

Thanks for the suggestion of using Priceline as well as the info on the swap list. It'll be great if we don't have to use the box. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.
Now I am the last person in group #1. How do I leave it ? Any special instructions for the CM's starbox ? Thanks.

As the last swapper, you have the option of keeping the chairs if you want them, maybe offering them to the recreation CMs if they are in good shape, or just tossing them.

On another update note - The thank you gift for the CMs could not be delivered, so I'm picking it up on my way down next week and hand-delivering it. I'll take pictures and post them!!! :goodvibes

I think it will be extra special that you're delivering it in person starbox. Can't wait to see the pics. Thanks again for everything you're doing with the swap. It's a lot of legwork and I'm sure we all appreciate it very much.
 
We got back from our 3-night stay last night (actually, early this morning :faint: ) and I would like to thank Starbox for organizing the chair swap. It was easily the best $11 we spent on the trip. We checked in Thursday noon, but our room wasn't yet ready. When we returned to the resort a little later (after a grocery stop) we ran across someone from the front desk with a luggage cart hauling two chairs and an umbrella up to our room. They delivered it for us without our even having to inquire at check in.

It was kinda weird having all three chair swap camps set up within 30 feet of each other Sunday morning. It was nice meeting Starbox and her DH (the big kid building sandcastles :artist:) as well as Chim Chiminy (Liz) down on the beach.

Amy, I'm looking forward to the photos of the thank you gift. The staff at Vero was among the friendliest I've ever encountered at any Disney resort.

I just found this thread and I know your chair swap is closed however we (myself and ds) will be at Vero Beach on Aug.24-27 and it does not look like alot of other people are involved in your chair swap during that time. Is there any way I can participte?
 
Harley-Mouse - there actually has been something added to Group One - there are now two small colored chairs with the navy blue reclining beach chairs. When we checked in, they originally only gave me the small chairs and umbrella - but since I sent the chairs down, I knew there should have been navy blue chairs.

I know that all three groups o have the deluxe navy blue chairs because all three groups were out last week - so if you get smaller chairs be sure to ask for the blue ones too!

I'm really sorry, but I can't add anyone to the swap once the cost has been divided by the number of swappers, paid for, and the lists are sent to Vero.
