Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

Awwww I was really pulling for Kevin.

I thought making food for the mother's was awkward for a last minute finale. I don't know...it just striked me as odd. Maybe it is just me. ;)

As soon as I saw the mothers come in I knew we all had been had from the very beginning. The brothers mentioned their mom in the very first episode. We watched 16(?) weeks of an elaborate staged con. Top Chef decided from before picking contestants that they wanted a sibling rivalry for the finale. They probably scoured contestants to find the right two siblings.

While the two did turn out to be of the best, literally, I believe all of the other 14(?) contestants were expedient. They were going to get rid of all of them. They probably purposely seeded the competiton with less than chefs, like Preeti, Robin and that one that cooked that vegetarian setan thingie. What the producers basically wanted all along was a Sibling Iron Chef episode. We didn't need to go through 16 weeks of eliminations. :sad2:

They should have just had a cookoff between siblings if thats what they wanted to do.

I wouldn't be surprised if next season it comes down to a rivalry between two spouses or ex-spouses.

Awe, come on... that's unfair to all of the very good school cafeteria workers. ;)

Yes, I actually felt a twinge of guilt for comparing her to school cafeteria workers. They are actually much faster than Preeti. They have to be to deal with screaming, hungry throngs of kids every day and get them through the lunch lines fast!. ;)

Kevin was saddled with the MOST INEPT sous-chef I have ever SEEN on any cooking show IN MY LIFE . I could have chopped up that stuff faster than Little Miss Slowpoke. ALL she had to do was CHOP and she couldn't even do THAT, she had a chance to shine for the viewing audience and SHE BLEW IT. What a putz.

Ash was great but he couldn't make up for Preeti's idiocy. I think I knew as soon as they pulled knives that Kevin was probably a goner. How was it even possible for him to get such a lopsided result?

If this was like Survivor I think Kevin would win the $100,000 fan favorite. Does Top Chef do anything like that?

Michael might actually be the best this year but his behavior and comments do NOT make me want to eat any food he prepares, same with Mike Isabella. They were such *[insert any epithet you like here]*. Kevin and Bryan on the other hand?...makes me want to plan a special trip to eat at ANY restaurant they work at (same with Carla & Fabio).

agnes!

I agree with everything you said and the bolded part, DH and I said the same thing as soon as he drew his knives

::yes:: I said that back on page 17, right after they picked sous chef knives. :sad2:

It could have gone down that way, or it's possible they simply took advantage of the situation that presented itself, as we'd expect with ratings wars. I haven't read the blogs, but is there any evidence anywhere the whole thing was staged?

I don't really remember all past seasons but last year they did have a fan favorite and it was Fabio.

Didn't we vote a few weeks back for our favorite TC? I remember somone having their panties in a wad because someone elser voted for Bryan as their favorite.

Unless the producers are going to let us in on their production meetings, I doubt there is ever going to be "evidence." But, they probably have final say over who gets to stay or go, whether that is publicly known or not. It's just a little too coincidental and transparent how this turned into a sibling rivalry. :rolleyes1

I was so looking forward to the finale because I thought they were all very good. I think I fell asleep as soon as it started and didn't wake up until it was over. I'm thinking that Michael was probably the best chef but I really didn't like his personality. I was rooting for Brian. Does anyone know if there will be a reunion show and when it will be on?

I don't think it was staged, both of the brothers were iincredibliy talented I think they needed any help to get to the end.

Yes, it will be on Wed at Top Chef regular time spot:goodvibes

Poor Kevin. I really disliked pulling the knives to get sous chefs - very unfair. They should have just picked 1, 2, 3 for the order in which they got to select their sous chefs.

I just don't like Michael. I think if I'm going to one of their restaurants it's going to be Kevin's.

So sad that Kevin didn't win. But we still have time to vote for him to be the fan favorite!!!

I can't wait until our next trip to Atlanta to dine at his restaurant. I just hope he is there and we get to meet him.

The people who say the brothers are down to earth bug me. I mean, how can you be down to earth when you don't even have a personality to begin with?

I think that there is plenty of personality, we just don't get to see it. This show is edited to portray each Chef in a way that will entice viewers to continue to watch each week. I am not sure we need that kind of editing, I watch to see the Chefs compete and don't need to know much else. I doubt that each Chef is portrayed in the best possible light if there is any chance that conflict or rivalry can be introduced.

I liked Kevin and wanted him to win, I did not like Michael, Of the two brothers I would have liked Bryan. Oh well, it was nice to see them with their Mothers, even Michael seemed to relax some. ;)

The Chef who said that Kevin was on his way to becoming a Superstar is correct in my book, his approach to food is incredibly appealing and he was portrayed to be a really likable guy. From past seasons it is clear that once the Cheftestants make it to the top 5 or 6 their careers are on a fast track.

Agree.

DD and I were discussing what a pp said. Last season I remember Carla and Fabio and I have to think really hard about the winner Hosea?

Likewise on Project Runway (Christian Sirano-winner 2008) or Fashion Designer (Merlin-went home), I remember the people that stood out that were passionate or over the top.

Now the thing that bugs me is it because of show editing or was it the people themselves?

I think that editing can portray the best or the worst aspects of their behaviors but you cannot turn a genuinely nice guy into a villain and you cannot turn someone who is mean into a fair player. I think that they producers get a lot to work with.

Brian was a bit devoid of a personality throughout the show...at least, what they showed of him seemed wooden and boring. I still think he's adorable.:lovestruc
