Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

But, I figured it would be Eli since the producers would want the brothers in the finals together.

::yes:: it's down to the big showdown between the brothers. It's what the show has been setting up all season. Then Kevin will win, so: 1. The brothers won't be fighting each other the rest of their lives. 2. They mentioned in the first episode that the person who wins that first eopisode has always gone on to win Top Chef.

If any of these contestants want to see how a class act behaves they only need to look to Huber Keller during that big chefs' dinner....

Huber Keller is one class act indeed.

I really liked that Brian gave Kevin directions on how to sous vide. It shows he has integrity. He could have simply said, "Sorry, this is a competition. I can't/am not going to give you that." Instead, he realised, it's only a technique. Kevin would still have to put the ingredients in properly in the right amounts and combinations to win. :thumbsup2 Brian was the closest in attitude to the chefs on the Top Chef Masters.

I really like Brian more and more. It's obvious he's a more mature and seasoned chef than his brother. They both have talent, but it seems like Brian has been around long enough to know when to temper the 'tude and simply let his food speak for itself.

Yes, Kevin may have "played it safe", but he deserved to win because his was the only dish that was cooked properly. And that counts for more than "technique" that comes out badly. But unless Kevin steps up his game, he'll never make it in the Brocuse d'Or.

Michael's a petulant little boy. He needs to take a few lessons from Kevin on how to cook (notice that every time Michael puts down Kevin's cooking, Kevin wins?) and from his brother on how to behave.

I think that Michael will be next to go. I think the finale will be Brian, Kevin and Jennifer. Having an all-male finale isn't the best way for them to go, even if two of them are brothers, IMO. Of course, I've been known to be wrong!

Ah, finally watched it. Well.....that was certainly interesting.

In all honesty I cannot tell who they are going to dump next. My money is a Jenn of course but it may be one of the brothers. Who knows?

Kevin will win in the end.:flower3:

I think he may as well but I'm not going to say he will for sure. There have been a couple times that someone was the obvious front runner and I just knew they were going to win. But come the final challenge, something happens and they mess up.

You never know what can happen.

Oh I know. I am just giving some support for the big guy.

While Kevin is my favorite, he's probably not the best choice to compete in the Brocuse d'Or since that's not his style of cooking. But I'm still glad he won!

It was fine with me that Eli went home. Just seems like he's got some growing up to do still.

Michael is really getting on my last nerve - I'd love to see him get axed and his brother make it to the finals.

Happy to see Jen offering to help the others - it did remind me of Top Chef Masters!

It's Bocuse d'Or. http://www.bocusedorusa.org/

Did anyone vote for the favorite cook this season. I voted for Brian a few times

Brian? Seriously?

You mean like last season? lol Though I liked Hosea I don't feel he should have won.

I just love Kevin. He is always so gracious and always congratulates the winners (if it isn't him!) He is so classy.

ITA!!! :thumbsup2

Jenn, Brian and Michael are all very good but I just love what Kevin has brought to the show this season. I love all his dishes and I love his personality. J/B/M need to SMILE once in a while......they are always such DOWNERS.

Eh - the brothers just get on my nerves. Yeah - Brian appears to be a talented chef (and the nicer of the 2 brothers). I'm just not pullin' for him.
I can't stand Michael, I want either Brian or Kevin to win, I think Kevin needs the win a little more then Brian I think Brian is talented enough without the win, I think this could be a huge step in Kevin career though

I took his snide comment to mean the simple stuff he cooks when he doesn't want to pull out his pots & pans, or doesn't have the time or energy to make to a more complicated gourmet meal for himself.

Kind of like when you sit home in you sweatshirt and sweatpants when you're home alone and you don't care.

That is how I took it

I think that Jen will go next too. I am sad about that though, I really like her.

I Think whoever is in the final four will go far, kind of like Project Runway or American Idol. The exposure these Chefs are getting is worth far more than the win alone.

I thought that the conversation that the Chefs were having during the meal meant a lot. They knew that they could mentor Bryan and that he was willing to learn. I think that they all knew that Michael was not open to feedback. I got the impression that they felt that while Kevin did not take a huge risk in his technique he defended his food. I would love to see what he could do at Bocuse D'or

Their criticism that he "played it safe" was totally ridiculous. The dish worked. So suddenly he's playing it safe? When Tom walked into the kitchen and talked to everyone about their dishes, even HE said Kevin was doing something different from his usual stuff.

To me, saying Kevin was "playing it safe" meant they didn't have any negative critique for him. :confused3 But since they have to have a negative critique so we'd be left guessing until they announced the winner, they had to make one up. The best they could do was call him safe.

If Kevin had gone so much out of his element, he would have been booted off the show like Robin who was experimenting like crazy with stuff she totally didn't know anything about.

This show either criticises the chefs for playing it safe, or not taking enough risks. But when they do, they say the chef's personality wasn't in the meal or they strayed so far from their usual style that they weren't in the dish. Kevin stayed with what he knows, what his style is and the cooking he knows will work.

Yeah, Stefan was robbed.

I think this is what they thought last season about Stefan. He was clearly the best, most consistent chef. He got all the publicity for that week to week. But, the show doesn't want to be predictable, so they will purposely pick someone else than who is the frontrunner and obvious shoo-in.
