Official Top Chef Las Vegas thread *Premieres 8/19*

Kevin is my choice to win, but if it had to be one of the brothers. I like Brian better.

Boy Padma looked real cute pregnant in that white dress. I never looked liked that when I was pregnant. :lmao:

Mrs. Disney Ron
I agree with all of the above.

I was SO hoping that Michael would be the one to go home... especially after he won the car.

I thought it was interesting that after last night's winner was announced, Tom still went on to criticize each chef...

I am on TEAM KEVIN!!!! Did you hear them tell Bryan at the train station that there is a Facebook acct on his beard!!! :lmao:

I hated to see any of them go home..they are all so talented. I'm still routing for Kevin, but any of them wining is OK by me!

I have to go along with you all - I'm rooting for Kevin. He did look a bit rough. I'm not surprised Jen went home but I was hoping it would be Michael.

I just watched the episode. Was it just me, or did Padma look like she didn't agree with the decision to send Jen home? I'm sure that one of the reasons why Michael wasn't eliminated was so they could pit the two brothers against each other in the finale. But it should have been him ... I'm sorry, raw, slimy eggs is far worse than salty goat cheese!

Oh ... and Kevin for the win! My pick from the very first episode.

I agree with you, I would have sent Michael home. Raw egg is downright disgusting but a Jen/Bryan/Kevin finale was probably not in the cards.

I have to say that I am a little tired of the producers attempts to create drama where none is necessary. I do not watch this shop to see two lesbian lovers compete to beat the rest of the challengers, to catch a glimpse of two people who are committed to different people get caught up in an affair or to watch two brothers take sibling rivalry to a new level. I watch TC for the cooking challenges. I do not like second guessing the judges decision. Now there is always a question for , is this part of the producers vision or is this who the judges really feel should go home?

Kevin for the win :cheer2:

i am so looking forward to the final finale:banana::banana: and i get a bit of an extra dessert offering-the day after it airs a friend who works for the wine train is coming to visit so i'll be able to see if any of the staff got to encounter the top chef staff and what they were like (and if nothing else find out what kind of security they put in place to protect the results from the on train quick fire from being leaked).

dh and i were realy confused when the last episode ran and they initialy said the chefs were going to be limited to only 'local napa valley' ingredients-then they had them at the supposed farmer's market buying items we know from growing up and living in napa until recently are NOT grown/raised localy. it cleared things up during the serving when (jen i think?) told one of the guests they were limited to things that came within a 20 or 25 mile radius of napa (explains the sonoma duck and several other items).

i was REALY surprised any of the chefs would do foie gras. it's such a controversial ingredient in california and particularly among many of the foodies in napa. it's going to be totaly illegalized (production and sales) in california come 2012, but there's been a strong move that has gotten it extensivly eliminated from sales and menus since the bill was signed back in 2004.

When is the finale?

I still have not seen the last episode. I did set the DVR to tape sometime this week. Was the last episode titled, "Final Part 1"?

barkley--How cool that you have an inside look! You'll have to fill us in when you get the report from your friend.

I thought I heard someone say that "local" was defined as within a 50-mile radius.

I got the impression on this challenge, that the overall quality was very, very high. I was hoping Michael would go home. Jen was a great competitor.

I hope Kevin wins it all--definitely, he should get fan favorite. I think the brothers are hugely talented, but I just like Kevin's simplicity approach.

Like I said earlier, I think Kevin needs the win more then Brian. I think Brian will go onto do great things in the chef world. I'm not so sure about Kevin

Micheal can just drop of the plant, lol

Which plant might that be?

I'm sorry, I know it's a typo, but the way it is written hit my funny bone and I couldn't resist. I have my share of typos, too. I'm not meaning to insult, just tease.

Did anyone see the final poll results - who would you be most sad to see leave? At one point, Kevin was at 44% while Michael was only at 11%. Not too many people would be sad to see Michael go! :thumbsup2

Padma did seem to have a tear in her eyes when she told Jen to go. Poor Jen. I was SOOOOOO hoping Michael would have been gone this time.

LOL I didn't even catch it lol. I guess I need to proof read better

i have to say that dh and i were realy disappointed when they said the competitors were going to a 'napa valley farmer's market' and then ended up at some kind of buisness in either yountville, st. helena or calistoga that appeared to be pre-set with certain items not native to what would truly be considered napa.

the place they went to had items that no real regional farmer's market would permit a single vendor to sell (it was'nt multiple booths operated by individual farmers, it was a single register place with tables and coolers). the fact that the supposed 'local farmer's market' had sonoma duck, the makings for foie gras and other items not available localy made it seem very staged.

i guess we should'nt have been surprised though-long before the quick fire challenge ended and the guest judge made a comment about the non local ingredients being used dh and i were rolling our eyes over the fact that concord grapes and other varieties not native to napa were included in a challenge that supposedly was designed to 'celebrate' the natural produce of the region:sad2:

when we heard that the big challenge would include a vegetarian dish and a one with a protean that had to be 'local' we were jazzed. we were thinking quail or organic chicken, and a variety of vegetarian options (huge seventh day adventist vegetarian population in napa that lends itself to a wide availability of local vegetarian protean options)-but to see foie gras, sonoma duck, and god know where from beef-it was disappointing to say the least (i LOVE goat cheese ravioli, but to be honest-the vegetarian offerings i've been offered back home would offer this more as the non meat item for non vegetarians vs. a true vegetarian protean/main course offering).

Another team Kevin member, I am even a fan of Kevins beard on Facebook! I really just did that to annoy DH! I would be OK with a Brian win, but I will be very upset if Michael wins. I agree that Padma seemed sad that Jen was leaving. I was sorry to see her go too.

I noticed that on the show ... that the "farmer's market" looked totally staged.

FWIW, if you like beef and have a chance at trying Highland beef do it! We know a local farmer who raises Highland beef for our farmer's market. It is really great beef with a distinct flavor. Here is their website: http://www.fountainprairie.com/ and their beef was featured at the dinner I went to earlier this year that was cooked by Season 4 winner Stephanie Izard.

How cute is this? And it tastes good too!

I had to laugh when I saw this. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said, "I love animals. They taste really good."
