Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Found really cute "Tink" head bands, think green sparkly wire decorated with small green leaves and a small picture of Tink at the top, at the party store. Really inexpensive and it was in the Tinker Bell party section. Looks cute by itself or maybe I'll wear it with my Run Disney hat.

I bought those a while back for the race too! If you haven't opened them and kept the receipt, you should return them and I can bring 1 of the extras for you if you want.

ITwo weeks from now we will be racing! :yay:

I was thinking the same thing. I went to the gym this morning and when I looked at the clock in my car, I thought, "2 weeks from now, it'll all be over."

Dang it! I waited too long and the tour I wanted to do on the 28th is sold out. It's available on the 29th but I don't know how I'll feel that day, if I'll want to do it, so I don't think I should book it Or should I?

Which tour were you looking at? Was it the Walt's Tour? I think you'll be okay though, the tours don't go at a fast pace so I think you should be okay.

No run today, my lab had a bad night last night and she was up and down the whole way night. But she's 11 and old, so I can't get too mad at her. Hopefully a lot of people have tomorrow off, otherwise my 15 miler will take forever!

Thanks Kim for the offer, that's really nice...but of course I could not wait to open them and try them on without and with a running hat.

Sorry to hear you had a difficult night with your dog. Good luck on your run tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Ran 10 miles today in 48 degree temp. Very cold but good practice for race morning. Also, it has been SO windy up in the hills....I couldn't practice with my Tink Wings. I was grounded due to winds. ;) I've got to try next week.

Any idea how/what to wear in the early morning before the start to keep legs warm? Planning to wear capris.

If I can't sleep NOW, I'm going to be in big trouble in two weeks! I keep coming back to the board to see if anyone's written anything!

I got the green light from my sports medicine chiro to go for it (I had a cuboid slip severly out of place, causing a stress fracture in a spot that is in a bizarre area unaffected by running while the cuboid is in the correct spot. lol), but I'm training closely with her to get me back in business. I'm terrified of being swept, which will probably give me a great result. hahaha. But I dream about it. And daydream about it. I wish I knew more, I am soaking up everything I can find.

Anyone else?

Oh, and you all are talking about what you're wearing. I LOVE autographs from characters, but there's no way I'm bringing an autograph book. So if my pacing is good, I'm going to have them sign a white shirt I'm wearing. My hope is to have a fully autographed shirt at the finish line!:cool1: Otherwise, I'm aiming my outfit colors to look like Tinker Bell's friend who wears blue because we have the same hair.... (I could look up her name, but I'm too lazy right now. haha!)

I may go the Peter route. The tights look enticing for 40°F.:goodvibes

Not sure about DL policy, but at WDW the characters can't sign anything you are wearing.

Peter Pan would be awesome!

GOOD TO KNOW about the signatures! Darn! I will have to figure something else out... Maybe 4x6 cards. Those will fit in my front pocket... I'm so glad to know this before I tried it!

Thank you all for the speedy recovery wishes...

It is still very sad and I am just in shock that it has actually happened. My daughter does not want to run it without me and she is only 17 so can't travel there alone. I am so limitedo on vacation time at work and with the possibility of surgery (Hopefully not) but I really need to save everyday I have until I know for sure. So I was able to redeposit my frequent flyer miles with Delta thank heavens for being platinum status.

I am going to see about possibly renting out the points as they are in the current use year and have to be used by February 1st so holding is not an option which sucks becuase we are not going to Disney in the next month...

Run Disney is out of the office until tomorrow and I have documentation from the dr. regarding the injury and surgery and someone already suggested I contact them and provide that. I am not expecting any miracles for sure, it is what it is at this point, the ortho dr. called this morning to check on me and it just such a crappy deal put me in a bad mood for the day and trying real hard not to be!

The bruising is so bad now it is all along the "knuckle" area on my foot into my toes and all into the pad of my foot...

I am off of it until at least February 10th and then I would love to do the princess but I don't want to risk it in case I don't get release etc... ya know?

Thanks again to everyone and I will still be cheering you all on from home
;-)

I will also let you know what Run Disney says :(

Amie I am so sorry. :( I missed your original post, my "view first unread post" button isn't working correctly so I have actually missed a lot of the more recent posts.

I feel like I am almost too calm for how quickly the race is coming. I did my final long run on Sat and it went okay. I didn't get the time I was looking for, but it would still be a PR so whatever. I just can't believe in a week and a half I will be heading to Ca and I don't even feel like it. I haven't packed a thing and I am actually not even sure what I am going to pack. This is so unlike me. For last years Princess I was pretty much fully packed and ready by now.

Yes, that's the tour I was looking at. I guess I'll call again and book for Sunday. I mean, it's not like I go to DL all that often so I can suffer through it. :)

Amie, I am so sorry this happened. I hope you get better quicker than the doc thinks right now and you are able to do the Princess. :)

Then I think you'll be fine. Like I said, the walking pace isn't that fast and a lot of times you are stopped while they tell you little anecdotes and stories and they give you a while for lunch/dinner. Also, if it's the same areas as when I went, it's not all over the park either. We went down Main Street, Frontierland, Adventureland and NOS, so not too much walking. Don't know if they do this or not, but when you call to book, see if they have a waiting list for tours on Saturday, and that way if someone doesn't show up, you can go Saturday.

Okay, venting time. Went out for my run this morning and it was absolutely horrible. :headache: To start w/, it was really cold so my lungs weren't really cooperating, but I know that that is a temp thing and wouldn't happen if it were warmer. But what was really aggravating were my legs. I ended up only getting in 10, b/c they were absolute lead. And not only that I ended up walking most of it! They've been like that for the past week and they're not getting any lighter. I think it's b/c I haven't had any real time off after training for the marathon last month and my body is just rejecting everything. I'm not worried about finishing next weekend, it's just that I really wanted to run this 1/2 well. I was hoping to hit below 2:40 and possibly 2:30, but if it's anything like today or the past week, I'll be lucky to break 3. I haven't PR'd in a long time, and was looking forward to hitting 1 this time. I know I'll enjoy the race, that's not the problem, I just think that when you're looking forward to a goal and it doesn't happen it is upsetting. I don't know... maybe I just won't run until the race and just do cardio at the gym?

Okay, done now and feel a little better! Sorry about that, I had to get it out of my system.

As I sit here typing this through all my tears I am needing advice. I fell on Wednesday down my stairs and finally broke down today and went to the dr.. because this is what my foot looked like this morning.... (this pictures also doesn't do it justice... (sorry not trying to gross anyone out!, but it is bruised all the way down the side of my foot and under on my pad it is bad...

I have a bad fracture at the joint on my big toe which means no impact and no nothing for 4 weeks... unless I want to risk surgery, and even at that if it doesn't heal right then it will be surgery a re-break and a pin in my big toe.

Takes me out of the race and my 17 y/o daughter doesn't want to do it alone and we are trying to recoup some of the $$ we are going to loose DVC points as we were booked at the Paradise Pier for the weekend... and I think we will be good on the air because it was booked on frequent flyer miles, this whole thing just sucks. I am having my own personal pitty party here and am trying real hard to put my big girl pants on and get over it, but it is not working..

I know I can't get a refund or anything like that but do I notify Run Disney we will not be running or what?

Oh I am so sorry! I would be having a pitty party too :( Can you "transfer" the bib over I wonder? I know there are several people looking to do this race!

Hugs!

Hi Everyone! Disfan11 asked me (in the Disney Princess Half thread) to post the list of rides/attractions closed at Disneyland during the Tinkerbell Race. I got this list from the Mouse Savers newsletter. The following will be closed from 1/21 - 2/4:

Refurbishment/Closure/Update Schedule at Disneyland (California)
Refurbishment information is subject to change without notice and should be confirmed just prior to visiting. Updated information is available here.

-Redd Rockett's Pizza Port (Disneyland) closed 1/30/12-2/10/12 for refurbishment.

Sorry that I could not have these more organized, but I have never been to Disneyland and am not familiar with the attractions to help group them.

It's not as bad as it looks. The only rides down in DL are IASW, the Matterhorn & 1 of the ships(the other will be running). Most of the restaurants/stores are the middle section on 1 side of Main St. The Grizzly Run is a water ride similar to the rapids ride in AK in WDW & the trail is an area geared more towards kids to explore. It just looks like a lot when it's all listed out, but it won't be that bad. :goodvibes

According to the DL calendar, GRR won't go into refurb until the 30th...

I think Fantasmic! is dark too. :guilty: (I much prefer the DL version over the WDW one.)

Not sure about DL policy, but at WDW the characters can't sign anything you are wearing.

I'm also a fan of the male tinker fairies. And Rumble, from the new Pixie Hollow Games special, is quite studly (but obnoxious!). My DD is a huge Tinker Bell fan. Tights may sound good at the start, but it may warm up fast.

ETA: Clank and Bobble are the 2 male Tinker fairies.

Terrance is one, too. I even met him on the course of the princess half last year. :goodvibes:wizard:

I'm arriving sort of late on Thursday evening, especially once you figure in shuttle service.

Any recommendations for dinner that I can't get at home (ie not Denny's, IHOP, or McDonald's)? I'm staying at the Quality Inn (aka Port Orleans-Anaheim) and would be walking to dinner. TIA.

Is that the one on Manchester? If it is, then there are 2 really close~ Mimi's Cafe and Millie's Restaurant. They're on Harbor, but closer to Manchester. If you walk down past the main crosswalk on Harbor(the 1 to take you into the parks) there's Tony Roma's. If you want to go into DTD, there's Napoli's(same as the 1 in Epcot), ESPN Zone (way better and a bigger selection than the one in WDW), Tortilla Joes (Mexican), Ralph Brennan's (New Orleans/Cajun/Creole), HOB, and Rainforest Cafe. There's also Catal, it's the restaurant that is right across from Uva Bar in the middle of DTD. They have a really good selection of food. I'm a big pasta snob, and I love their pasta.

Not sure what time you're coming in, but check in advance w/ what time the DTD restaurants are staying open to. The ones on Harbor should be open until at least 10, but w/ it being a Thursday and offseason, not sure how early DTD one's are open to.

Yup. That's the one. I'll give them a try. My flight gets into SNA a little before 7. So I'm hoping to be able to get to eat by 9.:confused3

Is there a post which has a listing of WISH/DIS meets for the weekend?

Oh yeah, you should be eating be 9. The airport isn't that far, and even if there's traffic, it should be too bad. :goodvibes You'll be fine.

I don't think there's a post w/ all of them, but the ones that I know of are:
Saturday at 4 in DTD by the fountain by the Sephora and DTD entrance to GC (our thread & WISHers)
Thursday sometime w/ the podcasters
Sunday after the race b/w 11 and 11:30 at Tangaroa Terrace by the pool at the DL Hotel w/ the podcasters as well. That one I think is going on for a while I think.
