Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Is that the one on Manchester? If it is, then there are 2 really close~ Mimi's Cafe and Millie's Restaurant. They're on Harbor, but closer to Manchester. If you walk down past the main crosswalk on Harbor(the 1 to take you into the parks) there's Tony Roma's. If you want to go into DTD, there's Napoli's(same as the 1 in Epcot), ESPN Zone (way better and a bigger selection than the one in WDW), Tortilla Joes (Mexican), Ralph Brennan's (New Orleans/Cajun/Creole), HOB, and Rainforest Cafe. There's also Catal, it's the restaurant that is right across from Uva Bar in the middle of DTD. They have a really good selection of food. I'm a big pasta snob, and I love their pasta.

Not sure what time you're coming in, but check in advance w/ what time the DTD restaurants are staying open to. The ones on Harbor should be open until at least 10, but w/ it being a Thursday and offseason, not sure how early DTD one's are open to.

I had a great experience at both Ralph's and Rainforest, but Tortilla Jo's, not so much. There's also the area... Gardenwalk, I think it's called? ... that has a large variety of restaurants as well.

Oh yeah, you should be eating be 9. The airport isn't that far, and even if there's traffic, it should be too bad. :goodvibes You'll be fine.

I don't think there's a post w/ all of them, but the ones that I know of are:
Saturday at 4 in DTD by the fountain by the Sephora and DTD entrance to GC (our thread & WISHers)
Thursday sometime w/ the podcasters
Sunday after the race b/w 11 and 11:30 at Tangaroa Terrace by the pool at the DL Hotel w/ the podcasters as well. That one I think is going on for a while I think.

I'm excited for you guys! I won't be doing the meetups because I feel like I'm not a "seasoned" WISHer yet. Maybe next time. ;) :lovestruc I'm a little shy.

I call shenanigans! I only know a couple west coast DIS/WISHers. As long as meal plans don't interrupt, I'll be there. (Although Thursday is probably a no go, as I won't be in town on time.)

I think for the DL Half, there was a runner meet up prior to the race. I was too disoriented/new to the lay of the land to attempt to find it though. I regret that looking back.

I fit in both of these categories and I'm just going to jump in with both feet and go to whatever meet-ups I can because darn it, I'm flying all the way out to California BY MYSELF to run this race and I just want to have someone else to be nervous with....uh, I mean talk to. :)

C'mon, FireWoman! If I can do it, so can you! :)

(I'm not flying in until Friday evening, so I haven't worked out what meet-ups I'll be able to go to yet. But I'll be at as many as I can!)

I haven't posted much on WISH the past few months, but I ran Donald and Chip & Dale at WDW.

I will be run/walking Tinkerbell next weekend and hopefully I'll be able to make it to the WISH meet. I look foward to meeting you all!:)

According to the official program....they want us near the start at 4:30 a.m., in our corals no later than 5:15. Is there any interest of having a mini meet before our coral time??? It's going to be SO cold, dark and did I mention cold....I would rather meet up with other DIS members than to listen to the LOUD DJ/Announcer guy by myself. Anyone one else interested??

I'm confused about the runner tracking and hope someone can help. On the website it says that I have to register if I don't have a text messaging account. But then it also says that I have a choice of tracking someone via email. Why would I need a text messaging account if I want to track via email? I don't have a text messaging plan on my phone so I don't want to sign up for this and find a charge for it on my phone bill later.

Also, just curious what type of clothing people are packing to wear around the parks? I'm used to being in the heat at WDW where I can get by with a t-shirt and shorts from morning to night. But looking at the weather forecast for Anaheim there's such a variation in temperature. I feel like I should bring my wool peacoat for the evenings when it drops to the 40s, but then I don't want to be carrying my coat around all day, especially if the forecast continues to predict highs in the lower 70s...

Good morning Tinker Bells! :tink:

Our race is getting so close! :yay:

Please consider coming to the WISH meet on Saturday. I've never met a WISHer who wasn't as nice as they could be and it is a lot of fun. We are the same folks that you chat with right here -- just without our keyboards! ;)

I think that you will really enjoy DLR. :goodvibes

I am! I was thinking that we would do the traditional WISH meet at the W family reunion tent area -- which looks like it is the R-Z family reunion tent -- at the Princess at least it wasn't crowded and conveniently near several portapotties. This is a good place to meet before and after the race as we wait for WISHers to come in.

Lisa, I left the text number blank and just chose the email tracking. I skipped the FB updating too. ;) RunDisney tracking is notorious for being unreliable on race day so be sure and let anyone following you know that it possible that it won't work. Some people seemed to have problems at the WDW races with it.

I think the best thing is to have choices and layers. To me it is quite humid in Anaheim, although not like at WDW, so it seems cooler to me after the sun goes down. I will be wearing my WISH shirts a lot so if you see someone in a WISH shirt come say "hello" or at least shout "Go WISH!"

Stay safe to all our NW folks -- thank goodness this storm is this week instead of next! :scared1:

WISHers are some of the nicest and warmest and encouraging folks in the parks.

I'm slow. I'm a turtle. Slow and steady. I'm gonna win my race. Please don't expect me at 7:45 or 8...I'll be fashionably late. Not sure if I am wearing my WISH stuff or a costume, though.

I will be wearing my WISH shirts a lot so if you see someone in a WISH shirt come say "hello" or at least shout "Go WISH!"

You may be surprised how often this may happen. Also how encouraging and wonderful it is for someone to cheer you on. (Or you to cheer them on.)

I agree that DIS'ers and WISH'ers are the nicest people in the parks! I have done a DIS meet on my DCL Alaska cruise this past September (just prior to the DL Half) and it was awesome. Everyone was so nice. I agree with what a previous poster said, they are the same people we talk to on here, just sans keyboard! I hope to make it to some of the meets. I am kind of shy too, but like someone else said, I am flying to California, so what the heck!

TiaraTodd- I'm with you, I'm going to win MY race, and I am a turtle, slow and steady. But that's ok, because I'm making progress, and I have a positive attitude about it! I did my longest of long runs (ever) this past Sunday. It was 12 miles. And guess what people: I ran the first 6.4 miles steadily without stopping! I am not even sure if I have ever ran a mile without stopping. I haven't ever verified that I could do a mile, but mostly I just do intervals of like 4 mins running 1 minute walking, or 3's and 2's, and in some races interval for a while and then end up just walking because I get in my head and convice myself my walk is faster than my run. WHAAA? My head does crazy things in a race, sometimes. lol. Tink will be my 7th half marathon since I started running 19 months ago, and I feel so much better mentally prepared. I am still pinching myself over that 6.4 mile straight run. I got to one mile, and was like "Well, I know I've officially ran a mile straight". Then it got to two miles, then three, and I was like "OK, I'm going for it". I tried to stay steady and just go as long as I could. After the 6.4 I did intervals of 3's and 1's, and then at around mile 10 I ran another mile straight. That almost killed me. I mean really. I was going to get that mile in, but everything in me was screaming for a walk break but I didn't let myself have it until 1 mile was covered. I was going to slow, but my body was working so hard. I feel good about it. I hope I didn't alarm anyone that was jogging near me. lololol :lmao: So, to all you other slow but steady and determined Tink's out there, I'll be there too. :)

Great ----sounds like a plan. :thumbsup2 I am looking forward to meeting everyone. It's going to be a great race.

The key is layering. I keep a jacket in the car at all times, and gloves, just in case. If you're planning on being at the parks without a break, and think you'll need your peacoat, there are lockers you can use.

And I'm certainly not questioning wanting the wool peacoat - it gets COLD here. As soon as the sun starts to set, the temperatures plummet!

I'm just soo excited our race is almost here! :rotfl2::cool1::rotfl:

I would love to meet some of you here. I'll be there with my BF and our two kids. We're turning this into a mini weekend getaway.

Staying at the Red Lion Inn from Saturday - Monday. We live in So. Cal. and have Annual Passes, so more than likely they'll leave me behind to go to the parks and I'll go to the Expo, or any meet-ups or just plain rest up! :)

If I'm this excited now - 11 days before the race, I can only imagine how I'm going to be the night before. :yay:

Amy, are you still planning on wearing your WISH shirt for the race? :tink:

Me, too, I'll be right behind you! ;) I'm thinking I will be coming in more around 9:30 a.m. if the corrals get off on time.

And, Todd, every time my iPhone hits the deck I think "thank goodness Todd told me about the Otterbox!" Thanks again! :flower3:

I think I ran into you and Racy Tracey at the Princess Expo because I was wearing my WISH shirt.

Great job on your last long run! :goodvibes

It does feel cold there for sure. ::yes:: I remember when I grew up in Anaheim we would long for snow but the best we could do was a bit of frost. :lmao: Today it's 21 and big snow here and I see it's 52 at DLR -- sounds pretty good to me! :sunny:

At the Half in September I walked by La Brea Bakery (where the meet-up was) and I was too shy to stop. :sad2: All day after I wished I had stopped.

This time I plan to make the meet ups even though I don't know any one. :thumbsup2

It's going to be SO cold, dark and did I mention cold....

How'd you like the weather in the morning the past 2 days!! My sister lives in Boston and I checked their weather this morning and it was warmer there than here. Not by much, but it was still warmer. And now we have rain coming until the race!!!

Speaking of weather, weather.com 10 day is at Friday now!! :hyper: Mind you it could change before then, but Friday is supposed to be low 45, high 71 and partly cloudy. Might be a little cold for the 5k, but a night race around the parks starting at the castle?!? So much fun.

I am doing the 5K, too! I simply cannot wait! It starts at 10:30, so that will be oh, so cool! I will look up the Weather.com 10 day on my iphone app.

I booked my DH and I for the "A Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour for the 27th of January at 9:30 a.m. That will be awesome. Also, looking at going to Graumann's Chinese Theatre on Thursday Jan 26, the day we come in, to go to a movie. Might try to get Chelsea Handler or Jay Leno show taping tix while we are in the LA area. We are there for a week, just my husband and I. :)

Kim---I was driving through Crow Canyon to San Ramon yesterday and it was 29 degrees. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT !!! The Bay Area is suppose to be warmer than this in winter. I really getting nervous about staying warm before and during our race.
