Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

So I am a little slow.... My bib number is 5252.... I am VERY excited and can not believe that the race is next week.... I am on week 22 of Jeff Galloway's training program and feel very confident and strong. I finished my last LSR and completed 14 miles in 2:46.... Now working on what to pack..... Looking forward to seeing all of my DISer's and WISHer's at the race. :yay::yay::yay:

You are doing great! We stuck with a minute running, minute walking and I did 13 on Monday right at 2:49... so you will definitely beat us! :rolleyes1

I am doing the 5K, too! I simply cannot wait! It starts at 10:30, so that will be oh, so cool! I will look up the Weather.com 10 day on my iphone app.

I booked my DH and I for the "A Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour for the 27th of January at 9:30 a.m. That will be awesome. Also, looking at going to Graumann's Chinese Theatre on Thursday Jan 26, the day we come in, to go to a movie. Might try to get Chelsea Handler or Jay Leno show taping tix while we are in the LA area. We are there for a week, just my husband and I. :)

The (Disney) El Capitan Theater is across the street from Graumann's and Hollywood /Highland Complex, where the Kodak Theater is also. The "El Cap" is a fun place to go watch Disney movies and you can stop by the Disney Soda Fountain and studio store. It's attached to the theater and you can go for ice cream or other sodas fountain food and treats.

At the Half in September I walked by La Brea Bakery (where the meet-up was) and I was too shy to stop. :sad2: All day after I wished I had stopped.

This time I plan to make the meet ups even though I don't know any one. :thumbsup2

I think most people are a little shy about meeting new people. I don't know anyone else....yet. But I am looking forward to meeting some Dis'ers.

+1. I'm traveling solo and hope to meet all of you wonderful ladies (and gents) at the meets and form wonderful friendships. I have a feeling I'll be seeing more of you guys at other events:lovestruc

I'm getting very excited for the race!

I'm really thankful for our treadmill as we've had a bit of snow lately...12 inches here north of Seattle. Tomorrow will be the 3rd cancelled school day (Mon was holiday already). Can't wait for some nice weather!

I might say hi to some people, but I'll be with my niece and this is a special little trip for us, so I probably won't hang around too long at any of the meets. It gives me more confidence if I ever decide to travel alone to a race though, because I'll have built in "friends"! :)

Hope everyone stays healthy!

Lisa, I left the text number blank and just chose the email tracking. I skipped the FB updating too. ;) RunDisney tracking is notorious for being unreliable on race day so be sure and let anyone following you know that it possible that it won't work. Some people seemed to have problems at the WDW races with it.

Thanks for the info about the tracking. I'm planning to use it to track a friend who'll be probably be finishing the race after me, but we'll both have our cell phones so it's not a big deal if it doesn't work.

Speaking of weather, weather.com 10 day is at Friday now!! :hyper: Mind you it could change before then, but Friday is supposed to be low 45, high 71 and partly cloudy. Might be a little cold for the 5k, but a night race around the parks starting at the castle?!? So much fun.

Yikes, I haven't been thinking about weather for the 5k and what to wear. I'm not dressing in costume for either race, but I still need to make sure I have the right gear. It's seeming like it'll be long sleeves and capris for both. At least for the 5k I don't have to worry about pockets to carry fuel. I better start my packing this weekend so I don't forget anything.

I used to live not far from you, in Everett. I can't imagine that area getting that much snow! I used to drive into Seattle near the Space Needle. No way I would want to drive those hilly streets!

Todd Hopefully Terrance will make an appearance at this race, I'm pretty slow and will most likely need some pixie dust from a pixie dust fairy!

When I was at DL in October, it was unseasonable cool in the low 70s. I ran at 7AM and it felt hot and muggy to me, coming from dry Colorado! It may be warmer for our race weekend than it was in October!

double post, which I guess is better than getting poofed! How is everyone's taper going? I'm catching up on some decluttering projects around the house. I also got some books from the library, but I haven't even touched them yet!

Is everyone tapering? My running plan has me running this week, and 8 on Saturday. I haven't ran this week yet, but plan to get a fiver in tomorow, and three today.

Ok everyone, I am in FULL panic mode. :scared1:

I am on day SEVEN of the flu. Thankfully, I am at the tail end of the illness and I think I can run again on Saturday.

Regardless, this means I have been out of training for a full week. NOT the ideal time to get sick!

Does anyone have any pointers on how I should get back in the game? I know that the last week of training you're supposed to take it easy, but I need to get "back into shape"... :yay:

FYI- This is my 2nd half. So i know what I'm in for come race day. However, I was in far better shape when I did my 1/2 marathon last year...

Any suggestions or advice?! I'm starting to really freak out!!!

How's your training been so far? If you've done okay on your mileage, you should be fine. Just don't go crazy out of the shoot on Saturday when you go for a run. I'd plan on doing 3-4 and if you feel better, go a little longer. Don't try to make up for the week you lost in the few days before the race, b/c you could hurt yourself or get sick again. I really wouldn't worry about the lost week, just play the next week by ear and when you're out and if you feel good go an extra mile or 2. No matter what though, I wouldn't try to go a run longer than 8 before the race, that way your body will have a chance to rebuild your muscle fibers and your legs won't be too tired.

Hope that helps and feel better!

I'm doing a modified taper - 12 last weekend, 9 this weekend as a step-back, planning on an easy race at Tink. My "A" race is 2/12, so no real taper for Tink.

I have been so busy planning all my activities and meals while at Disneyland I keep forgetting I actually have to do the race while I am there! :scared1::laughing:

Exactly! Same here! At least it is giving me something to do while the pre-race nerves are setting in. So far, we are hitting the parks two days, and also another day with the twilight ticket from the 5K, going to a movie at Graumann's Chinese Theater, and going to a taping of the Chelsea Lately show. What's everyone else doing?

Oh, and the "A Walk in Walt's Footsteps" tour, as well.

Tinkerbell is just a fun run for me so no tapering here. Just sticking to my normall workout routine and actually planning a long run this weekend if the snow clears up.

I've been thinking a lot about my itinerary for the trip and have a rough plan mapped out. Friday I'll do the Expo, use my Twilight Ticket at DCA, then the 5k. Saturday will be all day at the parks and hoping to see WOC for the first time that night. It sounds like you need to get there super early for a good spot, so at least my legs will get some rest while I'm waiting. Sunday of course is Tinkerbell! Followed by another day in the parks and ending the night with fireworks. Then I leave on Monday.

I don't have any specific meals planned, but I know I want to try Hungry Bear and Pacific Wharf. The rest I'll play by ear.

How long is everyone going to be at DL for? When I bought my plane ticket, I thought 2 1/2 days in the parks would be enough. But now I'm wishing I had an extra day. Oh well. I'll just have to go back again after they open Cars Land!

You will need to get a FastPass for WOC. They are given out from the Grizzly Rapids FastPass machines in the morning. It will tell you what color section you are in and then you probably want to line up for your section about 45 minutes early so you can be in the front. There are no seats to view WOC, standing room only.

I've seen it several times and I like it better than Fantasmic.

I'm coming in Saturday morning and leaving Sunday night, but I'm local (and have an AP) so I'm there several tiems a month.

We will be coming in early Friday and leaving late Monday - I wish we would have come on Thursday since it is my birthday, but we just couldn't see getting on a plane the same day as the race and going back to work the next day... I would have loved to be there longer but we simply don't have the time off we'd need!
