Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Oh, no!! I just checked the Galloway training program for the Princess Half (DD and I are going for the Coast to Coast) and Galloway has changed his number. Now, he says multiply by 1.3 to get your race pace. He says I need to do a 12:15 or faster to finish in 3:30 on race day. I've got one more shot to do this before the race. I will have the life squad ready and waiting at the end of the run!

Don't be surprised if on race day you find you are going a tad bit faster than you expected. The adrenaline and endorphins (scientific talk for excitement and Pixie Dust) will boost you up a bit. That and your body will want to keep moving if it is a little chilly.

I'm glad you noticed this.

Can someone PLEASE explain this crazy math to me? If I can run 13.1 miles with a 13:39 pace why on Earth are we multiplying it by 1.3? Is this to factor in all the people in front of us, or toilet breaks and photo lines? I honestly don't get it. Hoping the experienced runners can explain.

THANKS!!

That is exactly the reason. There will be plenty of people (and fairy wings, I'm sure) to dodge, photo op lines to stand in, slow downs at water stops, and inevitably tinkle breaks.

This Miracle Mile stuff has me doing math, incessant math, lol, trying to figure it out. I read instructions on how to calculate your Miracle Mile. Basically I think it said to take a mile out of the middle of your run, push yourself in that mile, and then multiply it by 1.2, now 1.3. And that gives us our target race pace to strive for on race day? I think this is awesome. Doing my long run tomorrow (13 miles) so I will try this! If I have the formula wrong someone let me know. :cool1:

I was able to work on my outfit yesterday...so here's most of what I'll be wearing on race day!

I'm planning to buy a bondi band at the expo in the official race merchandise area to wear as well. I wish I would have taken the time to make one like I did for the Wine & Dine...oh well. I still need to get out and find some cheap knee socks to use as arm warmers in the morning if it's cold.

Anyway, if anyone recognizes me in what I'm sure will be a sea of Tinkerbell-green, please say hello!

Go Team Sparkle!

As I sit here typing this through all my tears I am needing advice. I fell on Wednesday down my stairs and finally broke down today and went to the dr.. because this is what my foot looked like this morning.... (this pictures also doesn't do it justice... (sorry not trying to gross anyone out!, but it is bruised all the way down the side of my foot and under on my pad it is bad...

I have a bad fracture at the joint on my big toe which means no impact and no nothing for 4 weeks... unless I want to risk surgery, and even at that if it doesn't heal right then it will be surgery a re-break and a pin in my big toe.

Takes me out of the race and my 17 y/o daughter doesn't want to do it alone and we are trying to recoup some of the $$ we are going to loose DVC points as we were booked at the Paradise Pier for the weekend... and I think we will be good on the air because it was booked on frequent flyer miles, this whole thing just sucks. I am having my own personal pitty party here and am trying real hard to put my big girl pants on and get over it, but it is not working..

I know I can't get a refund or anything like that but do I notify Run Disney we will not be running or what?

Awww, Amie, I'm so, so sorry you are injured and can't do the race. That is such a disappointment.

Have you called DVC to see if your points can be put into holding? I had to cancel a DL trip once on points with 48 hours notice due to illness and got to go into holding. It doesn't hurt to ask. :flower3:

On the WISH FB page there was someone looking for a bib. I don't know if that is something that you would consider -- just throwing it out there. Do you think you would be healed by the Princess? Maybe you could defer and switch? princess:

I know it's hard to figure this stuff out when all you can think about is how sad you are.

Oh Amie I am so sorry you won't get to run! Are you certain your daughter will not go? If you are going to be out $$ anyway I would be so tempted to go and rent a scooter and watch my DD finish. Hopefully your foot will heal correctly and surgery will not be necessary - my Mom just had surgery on hers as well and it has not been a fun period for sure!

Amie: :sad1: I am so sorry to that this has happened to you !! Hope your recovery is quicker than expected.

P.S. You might want to get your toe ring off quick due to possible swelling. I had to have mine cut off when I fractured my foot because of all the swelling.

Cripey, I love your outfit! It has come together very nicely! How did you do your top? Did you paint it? It looks very cool!

I am so sorry this happened! WOW! Maybe try to do the Princess, or sell your bibs? I'm sure a LOT of people wanted into this race that didn't get in.

Thanks! I worked with a lady that I found on Etsy, "Miss Morgan's Designs." They are iron on vinyl decals...she has TONS of cute Disney and non-Disney designs in her shop and does custom orders too. The Tinkerbell image I used came from one that she already has in her shop and then I gave her the ideas of all the other stuff that I wanted, she did a mock up for me to approve and that was that. She did the design that I put on my Bondi Band for the Wine & Dine and the mickey tie on my BF's shirt for the W&D too. I've ordered stuff from her for Disney t-shirts too...it's just so easy and really fun!

Amie~ I'm so sorry about your foot!! Hopefully it will heal soon and right. I would try to call Disney, the deferment date has passed, but maybe they can make an exception~ play up the doctor/surgery thing. I wouldn't reccommend selling the bib though, b/c you need a picture id when you pick up your bib# and they definitely check those when you pick them up. I agree w/ the suggestion that if you can't get a refund on everything, why not come out w/ your daughter and get a scooter and cheer her on? That way you're only out on the race cost?

On a happier note, don't know if this a coincidence or not, but the woman who was the model/actress for Tinkerbell will be at the parks the same weekend as the race! I was on Miceage this morning and they're having activities that weekend as well and at their breakfast on Saturday morning she is 1 of the guests. So maybe she'll be at the podium/announcer's booth race morning, kinda an inagural special thing.

I think you might be on to something. I knew about the MiceChat breakfast and celebration....I wonder if she'll be at the race too. She is at a lot of the D23 and other special fan events.

I'm really going to show my newbie-ness and ask if someone can explain Runner Tracking to me? I see it on the Run Disney site but it doesn't really explain what it is.

Also, does anybody know what the Pin is going to look like -- I'm sucker for Pins!

Runner tracking will send your split times, pace and expected finish time to your phone or email at various points in the race....I think at 5k, 10k, 15k and finish. If it works correctly, spectators or just friends or family at home can keep up with your progress. Sometimes the service is hit or miss...I've had it work great most of the time, but I've also not received the updates until the runner I was tracking had been finished for almost an hour!
As for the pin, it normally will incorporate the race logo in some way. I'm not a pin collector, but I've ordered the pins for each Disney race that I've done and they are always nice...I display them with the medal. I can't wait to see the commemorative necklace they offered for this race...I hope it's cute!!!
Don't worry about your newbie-ness! We were all newbies at one time...and we came to the best place for info! :flower3:

If I can't sleep NOW, I'm going to be in big trouble in two weeks! I keep coming back to the board to see if anyone's written anything!

I got the green light from my sports medicine chiro to go for it (I had a cuboid slip severly out of place, causing a stress fracture in a spot that is in a bizarre area unaffected by running while the cuboid is in the correct spot. lol), but I'm training closely with her to get me back in business. I'm terrified of being swept, which will probably give me a great result. hahaha. But I dream about it. And daydream about it. I wish I knew more, I am soaking up everything I can find.

Anyone else?

Oh, and you all are talking about what you're wearing. I LOVE autographs from characters, but there's no way I'm bringing an autograph book. So if my pacing is good, I'm going to have them sign a white shirt I'm wearing. My hope is to have a fully autographed shirt at the finish line!:cool1: Otherwise, I'm aiming my outfit colors to look like Tinker Bell's friend who wears blue because we have the same hair.... (I could look up her name, but I'm too lazy right now. haha!)

Me too !! The board has been pretty quiet. It's not too late here on the West Coast.
Glad you got the OK to run.
We've got luggage out to start packing. Getting my race outfit packed ready to go. I am worried about forgetting something at home.

Found really cute "Tink" head bands, think green sparkly wire decorated with small green leaves and a small picture of Tink at the top, at the party store. Really inexpensive and it was in the Tinker Bell party section. Looks cute by itself or maybe I'll wear it with my Run Disney hat.

I think everyone was watching football and recovering from the WDW Marathon WE! ;)

Two weeks from now we will be racing! :yay:

Dang it! I waited too long and the tour I wanted to do on the 28th is sold out. It's available on the 29th but I don't know how I'll feel that day, if I'll want to do it, so I don't think I should book it Or should I?

Oh I bet you're right!

Two weeks we'll be all done. Hard to believe!

Vicki, the headbands sound awesome! How fun!!

Becky, is it a sitting tour? I think having a tour that would be part sitting, part standing would be fine on the 29th, if it's a little bit after the half.
