Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I was just at Disneyland this weekend sizing up the 5K course (daughter and I super excited about that one!!) and the 1/2 Marathon course.

I'm so excited for you ladies running the 1/2 Marathon! (I'm doing the 1/2 in FL and then I'm doing the Disneyland 1/2 to get my Coast to Coast).

For those of you who have never been to Disneyland or California Adventure

I would really hate for you to be disappointed in the parks because of the current closures. Specifically, the Haunted Mansion just went dark as well as the Matterhorn. It's too bad they don't extend the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay just a little longer.

Be aware that there are closures on Main Street (ice cream, candy and bakery shops) and the Jolly Holiday Bakery was CROWDED so I never ate there. Hopefully the weekend of the 27th will be dead and I can finally check it out. Additionally, DCA is under construction still in many areas. Be sure to go online and check out the refurb schedule. Disneyland is the original and it is so very magical. Especially at night. I hope you first time visitors love it!

And, yes, Disneyland is better than Magic Kingdom. :rotfl:

See you soon!!

Now that I have survived the marathon relay I am trying to get my head around another half marathon in less than three weeks! :scared1:

Really looking forward to not finishing the Tinkerbell in the warmer part of the day...the second half of the marathon (when you're slow!) was a little warm this year.

Amen!! I ran the second half of the marathon as well and you are right, it was hot as hell. Even so, I compared my half of the race to my DD's first leg. The second half was the better part of the race in my opinion. We got three parks instead of one and my DD was amazed at the entertainment and character selection we had along the way. I am already excited for next year!

Congratulations Dagny! That is awesome!:cool1::thumbsup2

I got one too. They have a virtual gift bag as well in the email. Anyone who didn't get one but wants it, pm me your email address and I can forward it on to you.

Sent you a PM. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to not doing back to back halfs....what was I thinking????:confused3:confused3:confused3

I enjoyed the second half of the relay, except the heat. I liked that someone gave me a sponge and adored the entertainment.

I also was kind of surprised that I could actually sleep in front of the DJ on the ground at that hour of the morning in that cold.

Yesterday was 60 degrees in January in Ohio, so did 12 miles. Was pretty easy to do, but I didn't get much speed. Did a 16:20 pace with very little running. Felt great when I finished. Will spend the next 2 and a half weeks working on speeding up my pace while working at an indoor track. May try to get in one more long run but the weather is turning wintry. Really worried about my pace, although I've never been swept at the Princess Half Marathons. Really want to get my Coast to Coast. Hopefully, it's just last minute jitters.:scared1:

It's pretty cool & simple. You input your phone number or E-mail address (and I think you can add your FB account too, if you want) and at the 5K, 10K, & 15K marks (or other similar points) your time will be texted/E-mailed/posted to FB, including your pace and your estimated finish time.

Worked GREAT for me the last two W&D races, as my husband knew exactly when to look for me at the finish. I'll probably send them to him this year too, but he'll still be in FL. :)

The race tracking this past weekend was horrible. I heard it worked GREAT for the Donald half, but it did not work for the Marathon at all. When it does work, it is great so keeping my fingers crossed!

Todd: I don't know how you managed to do both 1/2's but congratulations - you should be very proud. The heat was horrible indeed. I got on the bus to go back to the hotel and felt my face.... It was full of salt - something new that I had never felt before - absolutely digusting!

I love the fact that you said the 12 miles was easy - I think you are totally ready! Don't worry, you will do fine! I am going for my coast to coast too this race so I am really excited!

Same here! I was pouring water over my hat and down the back of my neck at the water stations, but still when I went to get undressed and shower I felt actual salt on the sides of my face near my temples!

Todd, that is amazing! You must feel so good right about now! Doing the Tink will seem so easy to you. You don't have to get up the next day and do it all over again! I love your picture of all your medals! What races have you done! Very cool! :cool1:

I found the tracking to be rather timely for the Donald on Saturday as well.

It was working pretty well for the first half of the marathon on Sunday, at least for my partner, I got updates as I expected and pretty close to on time. But for the second half, they were non existent until well after I finished. I had friends texting me, asking me if I was alright and if I was still on the course because no times were being transmitted.

Thank you, it was nothing compared to all the Goofy and Dopey runners out there. I thought I held them in high regard before--but after doing only a taste of what they did....

Agreed. I have a new admiration for the Goofy runners! Amazing accomplishment...

Anyone who has done a Disney race, do you remember if they handed these out after the races?
I know I've gotten one before, but it might have been at the Seattle Rock & Roll.
They are awesome to help get you cleaned up and cooled down after the race.
I might just buy some to put into my checked bag.

I have also put a small towel into my checked bag and drenched it with water and it works just as well. You will be glad you brought it!

I've seen others talk about how saltly they are at the end of the race (which I get too). Remember to try and wipe off close to the end of the race so you get that beautiful race photo at the finish line! :rotfl:

They handed me one after the Disneyland Half and I was like "what is this?" They don't hand them out at WDW races. Not sure if they will hand one out, might depend upon the temps at the finish line.

Unfortunately, they don't. The only time I think they might have done something was at the 2nd DL 1/2 in 2006, I think they had something the last half of the race and ice after the finish line. But the only reason they did that that year, was b/c there was a heat wave. When I finished, I think it was a cool 102 or 103.

Do you know where to buy them? They had them in SD, and I loved them. And the way the way the weather is going I'll need them in LA in March.

In Honolulu, they had garbage cans full of water and sponges and were handing them out which I loved. I was thinking you could kind of do the same thing w/ your own, just stick it in b/w the running belt and you and get an extra cup at the water stop.

We also got one at the 2011 Disneyland Half. I really liked it. My sister could NOT stand the smell. They were handing them out between where I got my DL medal and my coast to coast. It was hard to miss them because there was nothing else there; however, some of the people handing them out were just hanging back so unless you wanted one - I think people were walking past them especially since most of us were like what is this.

Does anyone know when is the last opportunity to buy tickets through the special race tickets offer?

Also anyone get their Disneyland Express Vouchers from GetTravel yet? For the DL half, I did not receive mine and did not even know I needed them until my sister made a side comment about receiving them. GetTravel was more then helpful, but I don't want the added stress again. I was nervous enough if you know what I mean.

Thanks! I'll check them out.

 That's why I missed them last year! I saw Todd's post right before mine, and was thinking I didn't see them. But like you said, I wasn't really looking for them.

I went on the GetTravel site yesterday to look at park tix, my friend's thinking of coming down w/ me, but they said they're no longer selling tix. They did say that they will be available for purchase at the expo though.
