Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Chill Cooling Towels -
Anyone who has done a Disney race, do you remember if they handed these out after the races?
I know I've gotten one before, but it might have been at the Seattle Rock & Roll.
They are awesome to help get you cleaned up and cooled down after the race.
I might just buy some to put into my checked bag.
We got one at Disneyland 2011, but none at Princess 2011.

ChEAR squad question to anyone---can anyone find/send me the link for the ChEAR squad waiver? According to DH final race instructions for the ChEAR squad--you need a signed waiver to pick up your stuff. (Even if you are picking it up yourself)

I have had email to RunDisney about this and no luck !! :rolleyes1

Does anyone know anything else? Thanks

So... we usually run later on in the day, and all our super long runs have been on treadmills since it has been winter so I am afraid I can't decide what I should wear. Any advice? It looks like it will be high 40s, low 50s when we start and then creep up from there once the sun hits us to end in high 50s.

In case it helps: We have only done a couple 30 min runs outside when its been low to mid 40s (our daily high) and I wasn't comfy with it until I got some capris, a proper runners' long sleeve shirt and a little headband that covers my ears. Otherwise I just felt cold, cold cold in my running skirt that has spandex shorts attached and thermal shirt with a T over it and gloves. I'm pretty sure gloves are going to be a huge no no for me... my hands got sweaty and all swollen in them and made me miserable even when I took them off because then my hands were itchy.

When I run inside, I'm dying in my skirt and any kind of shirt... I tend to run in my sports bra at that point (65/67ish according to my thermostat) and that helps a lot.

I guess what Im hoping to find out is how quickly does it feel like it heats up during these races? I'm pretty sure I would be comfy in my long sleeve and pants and it would be easy enough to take the headband off but will I be dying by the end? We're not shooting high - 2:30 finish time since it is our first - so thats a good amount of time after dawn to get toasty. I'm buying some compression sleeves for my calves as well since they have been having a hard time recovering over the last week (we went snowboarding last weekend as well and that did not help matters) so instead of pants will likely wear my skirt with those and my normal short running socks/tennis'. I'd like to avoid tossing my shirt if at all possible as it is a nice shirt..! I just don't know what to do. :sad1:

Finished my Tinker Bell skirt. I've almost got DD's skirt finished. Realized that if I had spent as much time and effort training as I am spending on making costumes, I could finish the race in less than 2 hours! On my way to the rec center track to do a final Galloway Miracle Mile. Hope I have improved over the last one, before the holidays. (Like the holidays are a great training tool to improve your speed!) In two weeks, we'll be heading for our first trip to Disneyland and our first leg of the Coast to Coast medal!

Woo hoo! Congrats on getting it completed! Let us know how the Miracle Mile works out. Have you done that before for a race? I looked it up. Interesting. I'm not sure I could push myself for that mile, times that pace by 1.2, and then sustain that pace for a whole 13.1 miles. But that's just me thinking about it. I would like to know how it plays out in the real world. I need something to make me faster and find that perfect pace. Let us know :)

I didn't get one...that I can remember!

Was it logoed or just plain?

No Disney logo, just the company's logo. I think it was a promotional thing.

I called the company yesterday to see if they knew if they would have the towels at Tinkerbell and she didn't know.
But she did say there were running a special now and would throw some extras into my box (I ordered 12 for our group).
The special doesn't show on the web site, so you may want to call them first so they know who you are.
If Disney ends up having them for the run, I'll just save them for my next race!

Thanks! :thumbsup2

I am just now getting to really planning out my days while I am there and DANG IT if the race doesn't really interfere with my leisure plans!

Runner Tracking is now apparently available via the runDisney site:

http://www.xacte.com/templates/disney/tinkerbell/

They also had about a dozen computers set up at the expo to set it up for Marathon weekend. Looking at the map of the expo for the Tink, it appears they have a spot set for it.

Thanks for posting this!
I e:mailed my group about getting everyone set up!
I've also put in several names as well.
My advice is to do it online soon. That way you don't have to wait in a line at the Expo.

I'm so glad that everyone here is on the lookout for Disney info. I get it here way before they send me anything!

I just finished my "Miracle Mile" at the rec center. The last time I did it, I had a 13:30 mile. Today, I had a 12:50 mile. :yay: I think I could have pushed it a little harder because I didn't feel like I was going to die at the end of the mile. Maybe I'll try it again next week. Anyway, according to Galloway, that translates to a 15:18 mile pace. I would like to pick it up a little to a 15 minute per mile pace. Hopefully, Galloway is right. But, I sure know that I couldn't keep that Miracle Mile pace up for very long!!

Oh, no!! I just checked the Galloway training program for the Princess Half (DD and I are going for the Coast to Coast) and Galloway has changed his number. Now, he says multiply by 1.3 to get your race pace. He says I need to do a 12:15 or faster to finish in 3:30 on race day. I've got one more shot to do this before the race. I will have the life squad ready and waiting at the end of the run!

I'm thinking of doing one of the Guided Tours at DL on Saturday ("A Walk in Walt's Footsteps" Tour). Anyone else interested or has anyone else done it before and can provide feedback?

Did you try to enter his info on the waiver sight? Maybe you just sign it when you pick up the package at the expo?

That's a hard one, b/c the weather has been so crazy especially in LA this winter. I'd wait until race week to set anything in stone. My plan is either capris or tights(leaning more towards capris) and my short sleeve top either w/ or w/o a pull over I'll just tie around my waist.

The sun's been coming up around 7, and coursewise, Miles 6-7, 8-8 1/2 and 9-9 1/2 we'll be running into the sun. Miles 7-8, 8 1/2-9, and 9 1/2-10 the sun will be coming down from our left side. Then from Mile 10- finish, except a short bit in DCA, it will be at our backs. So hopefully it won't be that bad. But then again, it's supposed to be 77 there tomorrow.

Love it!! :rotfl2: I saw you thread on the DL side, and completely felt your pain! I honestly cannot remember the last time I was there w/o a race planned, either DL or close to DL and stayed over. Going w/o a race seems so nice and relaxing!

I think you'll do great! :goodvibes

I'm glad you noticed this.

Can someone PLEASE explain this crazy math to me? If I can run 13.1 miles with a 13:39 pace why on Earth are we multiplying it by 1.3? Is this to factor in all the people in front of us, or toilet breaks and photo lines? I honestly don't get it. Hoping the experienced runners can explain.

THANKS!!

I did that one a few years ago and it was really good. The guide had great little insights and old photos. You can get discounts for it too, AAA/Dis Visa/AP.

I really enjoyed that tour. I did it a few years ago. You get headphones to hear the CM Guide talk and also to hear clips of Walt himself talking. It really gives you a nice history of Disneyland. And it included lunch.

Oh ya and the best part for me was going into the Club 33 lobby! That is probably the furtherest I'll ever be inside Club 33.

Yes--I've tried that...nothing. I keep emailing RunDisney/trackshack and they were kind enough to send me the waiver for the WDW Marathon. Don't think that will work out here :rotfl2: So I am still waiting for further info. I really don't think they are on top of this. If so, they would have sent the waiver. Why there needs to be a waiver to pick up ChEAR noisemaker, blanket etc is beyond me. :confused

Wow--I thought I had things figured out regarding the course. I am SO impressed and your information is very helpful !

For the tours at the park--AAA used to give a discount. And if you have a Annual Pass you get one as well.

Yeah, I was wondeirng about why you would need waivers too. I think b/c it's so dangerous watching the runners. You never know what craziness you could get into w/ the clappers!! :rotfl2:

As for the course... it's from the years of the DL 1/2 and a duathalon I did. Wish I could say that I just knew, but sadly, I have that course memorized. :sad2: I could probably run it blindfolded. I think that's part of the reason I'm really excited about Tink, the part from DTD and the residential area until we get back to Ball is all new. Definitely a nice change!

:lmao:

I've got the course memorized too !!! We drove the course a while ago and the downtown part sure was better than parts of the DL 1/2.
