Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I was not going to really wear a costume but DH bought me light up Tinker Bell wings at DL --they are great BUT-----How in the world am I going to try and run with them here at home to try them out?? I can't imagine wearing them during a run at the park or the track. :rotfl: What to do??? I know I would really get some strange looks !! I swear someone would probably call the police about some crazy women running wearing wings. :lmao:
I have a Tink green Nike shirt that I was going to run in along with my grey & green trim capris pants.

Just 30 days away ....I can't wait for the race and to get back down to DL. We're driving down on Thurs. :cool1:

test it out super early one morning when it's still dark and before there are too many people out...and make your DH go with you too since it's all his fault anyway :lmao:

SummerIrmoma2_3 ------No dreadmill.

Cripey---good idea!! Better yet in broad daylight at the track....who knows who will be there, and make sure he doesn't leave my side.;)

Vicki~ if I saw you running on a practice run, I'd run with you. :goodvibes But I agree w/ making your DH run w/ you on your trial run. On a better note though, I don't think you would have to go very far to make sure you like running w/ them. I would guess you'd know w/in a couple of miles or so whether they irritate you. Also, if you go out on the street to run, think of it this way~ those people don't know who you are and will most likely never see you again. And you'll probably brighten their day a little.

Thanks !!! I think I'll give it a try and bring DH with me. Maybe on New Years Day---start the New Year off right. Also maybe the people who will see me may still be hungover and will not give my wings a second thought.:rotfl:

Also, today I ordered a pair of CEP brand compression calf sleeves. (in lime green!) I've been wanting to try compression sleeves on my calves for a while so I decided to go ahead and check them out. Does anyone have a pair of these in this brand that has any opinions about them?

Bought a pair of these for my daughter for Xmas - she says they really do make a difference so I may have to give them a try for sure!

It's not my first race to run by myself and I'm not too nervous about that. I actually *like* being alone sometimes - I'm around people all day every day!! :)

I am, however, always excited to meet new people. :)

My DD left me in the dust @ the Wine and Dine in October and we are relaying the marathon in January. In October, I did manage to find quite a few people who were moving at my pace (i.e. slow) who were very encouraging. That is the biggest difference on why I love running Disney. Everyone around you is super nice and supportive to total and complete strangers - brilliant!

If any of you use the app RunKeeper feel free to add me to your street team. My user name on RunKeeper is the same as here... MelindaRuns. If you need my email address it's mvmguitar@aol.com. Hope to add some WISH'ers to my street team!

Melinda

I will add you!

I plan on wearing my whole costume in the 5K and seeing how that goes, and have a backup outfit of tried and true running clothes, just in case this isn't going to work for the half.

I am doing a much more elaborate costume for the 5K as well. While I would love to wear a skirt, I am totally afraid of being cold for the half. I have had a pretty hard time staying warm when wearing longer running pants. My thighs freeze for some reason. I am already slow so I can't afford to loose any time, LOL.

I agree w/ the Peter Pan idea. You can get a green running shirt and running hat and if you find one, you can stick a red feather in the hat. I do know that they sell Pan hats at DL and the Disney Store in DTD if you're not going in the park. Another easy one is Mr. Smee. That's what I'm doing for the 5k. I got blue pants, a blue stripped shirt and a red beanie. I'll try and post pics this weekend.

Melinda~ I love your costume! The wig is so cute.

Got in 7 this morning and have 14 this weekend. Trying to decide which day to run it~ leaning towards Saturday b/c I think it would be safer if people are still out driving at 5am on Sunday.

And can I tell you how much I enjoy that the countdown on the race site is less than a month!! I got the 1st flight on Friday, so I get in around 8 on Friday.

I started the thread for bib #'s too. I was hoping it would they would be released today b/c it's 1 month out and that's when they usually release it, but maybe b/c of the holiday and next weekend they won't do it until later. But it's up anyways! If you guys want, I can do hotels too? Let me know. Here's the thread:

Thanks for all of the ideas everybody! I kinda was wanting to do something with Tod from Fox and the Hound, as that's my name too and one of my favorite Disney films! I might just do a customly made shirt with him on it or something. I like the Peter Pan hat idea too! :thumbsup2

Hello. I just figured out (with Dagny's help:) ) that on RunKeeper you have to have the person's first and last name, not their user name, to add them to your street team. If any of you use RunKeeper and want to add me, my name is Melinda Marble. I love that running app and will be logging some miles tomorrow morning! Not early enough to don my Tink wings, lol, although that is a great idea to try them out very early in the morning... :rotfl:

Aw, thanks!

love that wig...that is too cute! I found a lime green running shirt (the Champion C9 brand) at Target that I am wearing...it's short sleeved...it might be an option to wear under your dress. Your whole costume looks great...and I really really love the shoes! The shoes I run in never come in crazy colors and I sooooo want a pair! I have to spruce them up with bright laces and bright socks.

I will have to look for that shirt at Target! I wonder what the temperature will be expected to be on race morning?

just looking at the averages, it will most likely be fairly chilly in the morning, but should warm up if it turns out to be a sunny day. So, I'm thinking about just buying a pair of cheap knee socks, cut the toe out, and wear those on my arms until I get warmed up and then toss them. I still have a pink fluffy robe that I bought on clearance for the Princess earlier this year in anticipation of it being chilly that morning to wear pre-race and then "donate"...but it ended up being warm enough for sleeveless tops and shorts, so I didn't use it. I may bring that with me to the Tinkerbell to stay toasty in the corral.

Sooooo, I may be in love with the calf sleeves :) I wore them last night on a 5 mile run and they were comfortable enough to where I didn't even notice that I had them on. I kept them on for probably 2 hours after the run...on the drive home and then while I ate some dinner before I showered...and am happy to report that I had ZERO soreness this morning! AMAZING. Normally after a 5 miler, I'll really feel it when I step out of bed in the morning...alot of tightness and then a little soreness for most of the day. This morning? ZIP. ZERO. NADA. That's what I call magic! So, needless to say, I totally recommend these and I can't wait to try them out on my 10 miles tomorrow. Now, this might be a dumb question, but for those that wear the compression socks instead of the sleeves...do those actually have compression in the foot part that helps with anything? Or are they just basically for the lower leg just worn in the form of a sock? I will say, the sleeves fit me pretty much like a knee sock just with nothing on my foot...I have very short legs and these fit from the bend of my knee to the bottom of my ankle...so they kind of help to keep warm too :woohoo: If anyone's interested, I purched mine online at Zappos and got free overnight shipping...I just love Zappos, it always amazes me how fast I get stuff from them.

Great idea on the robe and the socks. I've seen people in everything from a garbage bag to the robe or socks at the start of races. I don't know if I'll have room to pack a robe though, but I do like the donating aspect of it. I will have to play it by ear and just see what the weather looks like closer to race day. I'm sure it will seem warm to me (I hope) because its so cold here in MN. If its 50, I'll be thrilled!!

That IS magic! Awesome! I'm so glad you like them. I might have to dig my Zensah's out and give them another go. I have some compression socks, too, and I think its just mostly for the calf area. They aren't really tight on the foot. However, I think my socks said something like they were mostly for "recovery" (after running) while the calf sleeves were for during the run. My socks don't seem to have as much compression as the sleeves, if that makes any sense.

I have CEP socks - I LOVE them, because they provide support on the arch, around the ankle, and through the Achilles. I used to have some issues with peroneal tendinitis, and these helped tons.

I have some Zensah compression socks that are also good, but not as good as the CEP.... they were also half the price, so there's that.

I have some Zensah sleeves, that do NOT work for me. I have the smallest size, and at best, they are leg warmers - no compression whatsoever. And I do NOT have small calves. :lmao:

I also have some Tommie Copper sleeves, that I adore - they provide great all around compression, and they're SUPER thin, so I can wear them under jeans, with work clothes, etc. I don't know about their copper infused technology whatever, but they seem to work, compression-wise.

I've worn my compression socks for a lot of my longer training runs, and in a handful of races, and have had minimal fatigue or pain in my lower legs. My quads, however.... :lmao:

HTH!

sparkle skirt from Team Sparkle...ORDERED :)

I don't know who I was trying to kid saying I was just going to wear my regular shorts!

Now hopefully I will hear back soon about the iron on design that I want!

I am glad to hear you like them so much. I am pretty bummed. It looks like mine were in Dallas this morning so I wont be getting them until Tuesday. :(

I wore Minnie ears on my run last weekend. It was a busy runners loop. I got lots of smiles and thumbs ups.

I just checked our flights and we fly from Duluth to Minneapolis to LAX,and get in on Thursday at about 11:30. We will be in Anaheim early afternoon. We fly out on the 2nd late afternoon. I'm excited to get there and spend some time. Considering spending a day in Los Angeles/Hollywood area. We've done that before, but its been a few years, and it was fun.
