Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Tinkerbell is just a fun run for me so no tapering here. Just sticking to my normall workout routine and actually planning a long run this weekend if the snow clears up.

I've been thinking a lot about my itinerary for the trip and have a rough plan mapped out. Friday I'll do the Expo, use my Twilight Ticket at DCA, then the 5k. Saturday will be all day at the parks and hoping to see WOC for the first time that night. It sounds like you need to get there super early for a good spot, so at least my legs will get some rest while I'm waiting. Sunday of course is Tinkerbell! Followed by another day in the parks and ending the night with fireworks. Then I leave on Monday.

I don't have any specific meals planned, but I know I want to try Hungry Bear and Pacific Wharf. The rest I'll play by ear.

How long is everyone going to be at DL for? When I bought my plane ticket, I thought 2 1/2 days in the parks would be enough. But now I'm wishing I had an extra day. Oh well. I'll just have to go back again after they open Cars Land!

I'm coming in Thursday and leaving the next Wednesday...was there too briefly for the DL1/2 and want to be able to see things AND relax a little this time!

I'm working half a day on Thursday, then flying across the country to start my Tinkerbell Weekend. I cut my DL ½ Marathon Weekend too short last fall as well. I leave Monday evening. Still too short, but more time than in September.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 (Gotta get as much use out of the Disney Premier Passport as possible, right?:upsidedow:upsidedow)

I'm flying in on Friday and then out on Sunday night. Friday I'll do the expo and the 5k. Not sure what I'm doing on Saturday yet. Sunday the race, relaxing, and then flying out that night.

We're flying in pretty late friday night and leaving Tuesday evening. I'm getting so excited...it's finally close enough for me to start packing a few things here and there. I'm going to get the last few things I need this weekend, revamp my play list on the ipod a little and then get the suitcase out! And I have my pre-race massage booked for Thrusday...I'm REALLY looking forward to that!

Funny...a few days ago the BF and I sat down to lunch to discuss our vacation plans for the year (we work together, in the same small department and unfortunately are somewhat limited on the time off we can have together) and we both agreed we needed to decide what runs we want to do first so we could plan vacations accordingly.
:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:
Now THAT'S something I never ever thought I'd be doing!!!!!

Ok everyone, I am in FULL panic mode. :scared1:

I am on day SEVEN of the flu. Thankfully, I am at the tail end of the illness and I think I can run again on Saturday.

Regardless, this means I have been out of training for a full week. NOT the ideal time to get sick!

Does anyone have any pointers on how I should get back in the game? I know that the last week of training you're supposed to take it easy, but I need to get "back into shape"... :yay:

FYI- This is my 2nd half. So i know what I'm in for come race day. However, I was in far better shape when I did my 1/2 marathon last year...

Any suggestions or advice?! I'm starting to really freak out!!!

I'm a newbie, but I was sick twice during training. The first time I missed 2 weeks and the second time I missed 10 days of training, which was so frustrating. I found that it took at least 2 runs to get back into the groove after being sick. I think if you have time to do about 2-3 of your shorter runs (I think for most its around 30-60 minutes), you'll be good to go for the race. I only got 3 runs in before my 10K after being sick (the longest was 3 miles) and still had a great race. I gave myself plenty of recovery time (I had a nasty chest cold) and didn't push, which helped too. I hope you are feeling better!

I saw on weather channel app that they are calling for rain on Sunday. Any tips for running in the rain? I'm worried about my shoes & wet feet.

Ugh...I have been worried about this. I get blisters under normal conditions!

Hopefully it won't happen. I don't have any tips though, sorry.

Did anyone else get in for the Tink Meet up?

Congratulations! You are among a select group of qualified applicants who get to enjoy a special opportunity, tied to Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland Resort.

The runDisney Meet-Up – scheduled for Saturday, January 28 at 6:30 a.m. PT

I'm so excited! :cool1: We get to run with Jeff Gallaway through Disneyland! Now I need to find a hotel for Friday night, I was planning to come down Saturday morning.

I get in early Friday and leave late Monday. Friday is the expo, DTD and my Twilight tix into DL then the 5k. Saturday is nice and easy. Wander around DL for a little bit and then head over to DCA to watch Aladdin. Thinking about WOC, but not sure yet. Pretty much repeat for Sunday and Monday.

Garbage bags are your friend!! They'll keep you dry and warm pre race and you can wear them into the coral and throw them off when you start. When I ran in Providence last year it was pouring, so I took the small garbage bags from the hotel room and tied them around my feet until I went into the coral to keep my feet dry. Also, glide like crazy!! They'll be selling it at the expo if you don't have any. I put it all over the bottom of my feet and the back of my heels before I put on my socks, and all over my body so there's no chaffing. Also, don't wear baggier styled clothes, it will just absorb the rain and wear you down as well as chaff where the seams are. Throw in an extra pair of clothes in your drop bag so you can change when you pick up your bag after the race, that way you won't be walking back to the hotel in your heavy wet race clothes and it'll warm you up faster as well.

I am flying in to LAX on Friday evening, too late to go to the Expo so I'll hit that Saturday AM (and possibly the parks to ride the rides I missed in July). Sunday I have the race and the "Walk in Walt's Shoes" tour. And then I fly out Monday at noon. I fly back through Denver so I gave myself and extra day of leave, in case weather is a factor in getting me back on time.

Thanks for the tips about the rain with the garbage bags! :)

Holy cow! You are doing the tour after the half marathon? You are ambitious!! It starts at 9:30, right? I am doing it on Tuesday. We fly in on Thursday the 26th and fly out on Thursday the 2nd, just my husband and I . We are so looking forward to the PARENT'S ONLY TRIP!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

The only reason I'm doing it Sunday is because it's sold out on Saturday. That's what I get for waiting so long to call and sign up. :headache:

I'm pretty sure I'll finish in time, and I'm hoping I won't be too tired. I'm trying to stay on "East Coast" time for the whole trip so it won't feel like I'm getting up so early for the race on Sunday. :)

Congrats! I'm so jealous because I forgot to check back when I read the teaser earlier in the morning, so I was too late after I finally remembered. I bet it's going to be a great experience!

THAT is a very good idea!:thumbsup2:

Just checked the 10 Day Forecast on weather.com and it says Sunday will be Sunny with a High of 68 and Low of 44. Friday is 77/47 and Saturday 72/43. 10% chance of rain both Friday & Saturday, nothing Sunday. Hoping this forecast holds up!

Oh I hope this forecast is right. It will not be much fun running in the rain for 13.1 miles. I wonder how often all of us are going to be checking weather reports this week. Myself -about 6 times a day :rolleyes1

We are driving down Thurs. morning and staying until Tues. Can't wait to get back to the park....it's been 8 weeks since we were last there and I'm missing the park.:earsboy:

WooHoo! I just checked my weather channel app and it took away the rain forecast! I hope it stays that way, but I'll be packing garbage bags and target bags just in case. :)
