Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Did anyone else get in for the Tink Meet up?

http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2012/01/meet-up-and-fly-away-through-the-disneyland-resort-for-tinker-bell-half-marathon-weekend/

I'm so excited! :cool1: We get to run with Jeff Gallaway through Disneyland! Now I need to find a hotel for Friday night, I was planning to come down Saturday morning.

Congrats! I didn't see the announcement until it was too late. All the reports I've read of the Gallaway meetups at WDW sound so cool, but I'll admit I'm glad to not have to get up early on Saturday. One early morning wakeup call for the weekend is enough :)

Oh I hope this forecast is right. It will not be much fun running in the rain for 13.1 miles. I wonder how often all of us are going to be checking weather reports this week. Myself -about 6 times a day :rolleyes1

We are driving down Thurs. morning and staying until Tues. Can't wait to get back to the park....it's been 8 weeks since we were last there and I'm missing the park.:earsboy:

LOL at 8 weeks. I haven't been to DL since the 1/2 in 2009. (Although I have been to WDW a few times so don't feel too bad for me.)

Count me in as someone who also checks the weather forecast obsessively.

WooHoo! I just checked my weather channel app and it took away the rain forecast! I hope it stays that way, but I'll be packing garbage bags and target bags just in case. :)

Hopefully you won't need this tip, but a running hat is really helpful for keeping the rain off your face. (As long as it doesn't interfere any outfit you might be planning :)) I ran a half in the rain a couple weeks ago and I was really dreading it. But with tech clothing and a hat the rain actually didn't bother me all that much. I was wearing SmartWool socks - first time I've raced in them - and my feet weren't any worse off than after a typical long run. I'm not sure if it was the socks or if I just got lucky.

Welp, it's raining here this morning in So. Cal, but the temps are quite comfortable -- 63 :) It's clearing up enough where we're going to DL for some lunch. I'm also driving the route - getting a feel for it.

I'm SOOO ready!!!

One week from now we will be running! :tinker:

:) That is just awesome! I can't wait!

I will be getting into LAX and getting my renta car at around noon on Thursday. Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do in the LA area on Thursday afternoon/early evening before I head to Anaheim? Places to eat a late lunch/early dinner? Things to see/do?

What time is everyone getting there on the morning of the Half? Would 5:15 be enough time to figure out corral placement etc.? I kinda refuse to use a port a potty unless I absolute have to, so I'd love to leave home as late as possible (and be in the cold for minimal time too! ;) )

Does anyone know how the corral start times work. I know the race starts at 5:45am (ouch) for corral A. When would corral B, C, D and E go? Is it every 5 minutes?

One week from today. Very excited and a little nervous. Stay away from me sweepers!!!

Well, I am a newbie and I will probably get there wicked early. But thats because of nerves.

According to the official program--they want us there at 4:30 and we are suppose to be in our corrals no later than 5:15 for the 5:45 start. It guess really depends on where you want to be in your corral. I never sleep the night before a race so we're going to leave our hotel at 4:30, and walk over from our hotel on Katella.

I am SO with you on the port a potty !! Last real potty stop will be at Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. Then in Disneyland and all the bathrooms will be open. :thumbsup2

Am I the only one who's happy that this race did NOT fall on Super Bowl Sunday? Go Patriots!!! :D

Wow! I just realized that. I didn't even think of it when I registered awhile back. Go Giants!

So, I did my 8 mile run this morning and it felt great!!! And now, I taper! :cool1:

I just got my last long run in! It was supposed to be 8 outside, but had to be altered to inside on the treadmill because of the cold and my schedule. By the time it warmed up it was too late to do it outside--I had laundry to do. Darn family. lol. JK. I ended up getting 5 good miles in, pushing myself a minute to 1:30 faster per mile than I normally go. Now I taper!!! 4 easy miles tomorrow, 3 easy miles Tuesday, 2 easy miles Thursday, and 1 easy mile Friday (but actually I'll be walking the 5K with my husband, too). I'm getting excited!!! I got my Tink green Nike Free Run ID's that I ordered. Broke them in a little tonight. They feel great.:cool1:

My cuboid is acting up, so I did five miles Saturday, and letting my foot rest the remainder of the week. I'm bummed I won't make the time goal I wanted, but at this point, I'm just hoping to finish. Stay away sweepers! I figure I'm going to have to cross the finish line and plunge my foot into a bucket of ice. lol. sigh.

I think if I decide to do a meetup, the family meet and greet would be cool, under "W". Is that a for sure? I am having a limited time at DL and DCA, because we are going to go to the coast. *angels singing*

I can't wait! It's a short, crazy trip, but probably VERY memorable!

Oh, and on my 5 mile run Saturday, I held my point and shoot the whole time, and it only made me crazy the first mile. After that it didn't bother me. Anyone else CARRYING something? Is that weird?!

Personally I think it's enough time but plan on the possibility of having to push your way through the crowd. I was initially planning to arrive at 5:15 because I hate standing around waiting for races to start. But I noticed somewhere in the program or final instructions that the bag drop closes at 5 so now I'm planning to be there just before 5.

Sorry to hear about your foot, I hope the rest will help. You mean is it weird that it didn't annoy you, or weird to be carrying something, lol? I don't think it's weird because I'll be doing the same thing... carrying my camera for the whole race. My camera actually bothers me less than running with my iPhone. Something about the shape I guess.

Not running the Tink but I just wanted to come in and wish everyone here luck! Have a great race!! :dance3:

Good Luck, Tinks! Hope yall have a magical time! Can't wait to hear all about it (from a slightly jealous Princess!)

...and why does it seem like EVERYONE around me is getting sick?!?!?! Now I'm going to get paranoid :scared1: I'll be popping vitamin C all week...I wish I could lock myself up at home until Friday!!!

If you don't have any time restraints, Santa Monica is a lot of fun. It's a few miles north of LAX. You drive north on the 405 and then west on the 10 and it takes you right there. There's something called the 3rd Street Promenade, basically they shut down 3rd St to traffic and there are tons of shops, restaurants, and street performers when the weather's good. Also, you could just walk down to the pier and the beach. When you're ready to go back down to DL, you could take the 10 east to the 5 and go straight to DL. Depending on traffic, it should be about an hour or so.

I usually try to get to the corral about 1/2 hour before, but last year w/ the DL 1/2 they were crowd controlling people trying to get into the corral and it took a while and nervousness waiting to get into the corrals. 1st time they did that and don't know if they're going to do it this year, but it was frustrating enough that this year I'm getting into the corral early so I don't have to worry about that.

Does anyone know how the corral start times work. I know the race starts at 5:45am (ouch) for corral A. When would corral B, C, D and E go? Is it every 5 minutes?

It's either 5 or 10 minutes. I know this one, but it's one of those things where once you try to think about it, you can't remember. :rotfl:
