Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

We're doing the Peggy's Cove and Titanic port adventure it lasts 4 hour. Does anyone know how long we spend at Peggys' Cove?

I need to figure out how much time I was to take pictures and shop there! I could spend all day doing both!

We'll be sailing Sept 2. Anyone who hasnt gotten the pins they want by then, let me know! I'll pick them up!!

Hello everyone!

We recently returned from the Magic's inaugural cruise to Canada, and we had a wonderful time. Because I received so much great information from everyone here, I thought I'd give you our feedback on our shore excursions.

In Halifax, we did the Lunenburg tour through Disney. It was a long day, but we had a great tour. Our guide, Robert, was very informative and enthusiastic; our driver, Wendy, was excellent as well. The town of Lunenburg is incredibly picturesque and the walking tour was very nice (down hill all the way to the bay). However, because this was a long day, it is probably best for older children. We had a 16, 14, and 6 year old in tow (the 6 year old did not take the walking tour). There is a maritime museum and touch tank for younger children who opt out of the walking tour. We had lunch at Big Red's immediately across the street from the museum (which is where the tour bus parked to meet us after the walking tour). We give this the highest recommendation for lunch. They make homemade bread daily, and we had the best fish and chips and poutine (and if you've never had poutine, then say hello to your new favorite way to adorn a french fry). We also had a fantastic view of the bay while we ate, and the service was excellent. The menu was diverse, and everything was very affordable as well. Our bill for two adults and a teenager, all of whom had sodas and left food on their plates because they were stuffed, was $40 including tip. The building itself is also the old Lunenburg jail. What more could you want for lunch?

On the way home, we stopped in Marone Bay to browse their shops (though I would have preferred more time in Lunenburg), and Robert and Wendy gave us a quick tour of Halifax on our way back to the bus, stopping at the Citadel for a quick picture, which was nice. We got back with a half hour to shop at the port and then we were off to St. John. It was a wonderful day, I hope we can return again with more time.

Thanks - we will be doing this excursion in a couple of weeks. We were in Nova Scotia last year and was really hoping to make it to Lunenburg but didnt have time......so glad to see Disney offering it on this cruise.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we submitted the Navigators from our June 10-15 cruise and they are online now. If you go to "Staterooms" on the menu bar above, and choose "Navigators" on the drop down menu you'll see them.

Thanks again to everyone from Halifax and Saint John who posted tips on this thread. You really helped make our trip a fabulous one! Can't wait to return and see even more of your beautiful region.

Thank you so much for posting the Navigators! Wow - they are so easy to read I feel like I'm holding it in my hand. :thumbsup2

For those of you who have cruised already, did anyone do the Wild Blueberry excursion or the Riverboat excursion? Or the other boat excursion, forget the name!

Thanks! Trying to decide which to book (if any!)

I am holding them in my hand. I printed them out and have already highlighted things that I am interested in doing. Of course I know some things will be different. We are not cruising until September so I know we will not have the tea (I am so sorry this will not be going on) and I am sure there will be some different movies (I am hoping for Brave).

Anyway, thanks so much for the Navigators. Really makes me look forward to the cruise.

We are going on the Disney Cruise to Canada leaving from New York on Labor Day Weekend 2012. I have two children ages 6 and 4. I would appreciate and recommendations for excursions for kids around that age in either St. John's, New Brunswick or Halifax, Nova Scotia. Thank you.

Saint John New Brunswick (Notice its not St. John's) is a beautiful city (I grew up there) but it is not the most exciting place you have ever been.

Close to Pugsley terminal (Where you dock) there are plenty of smaller local shopping choices Market Square and Brunswick square are both excellent choices. Also within a short walk is the Old City Market with a large selection of local crafts and produce.

If you enjoy history Saint john is exceedingly proud of its Loyalist heritage, and you can find 2 wonderful examples of old British forts in Martello Tower and Fort Howe (Both will require a short Cab ride)

All the travel brochures will tell you that the reversing falls are a must see. Saint John is home to the highest tides in the world. 24 feet every 6 hours, and this massive change in tide level causes what is called the reversing falls. While it it is interesting to look at, you need to remember that in face, you are simply watching the tide come in and go out. It is not the most electrifying site you have ever seen, and in reality it looks more like reversing rapids than falls. It is interesting to see but don't plan your day around it.
On the plus side it has a nice resturant.

...We did the Peggy's Cove and Coastal Hike. It was a very good excursion....
Question: Were sneakers/running shoes adequate for the hike? I am hoping to avoid having to lug my space-hogging hiking boots!

Did anyone go on the Saint John River Cruise in Canada?

I'm confused because I just booked it and the only available time is 1:15. It's a 3.5-4 hour excursion and our ship leaves at 4:30.

I know the ship won't leave without us if it's a Disney excursion but this seems odd to me!

Thanks!

Running Shoes (Walking Shoes, Tennis Shoes - whatever you call them) were just fine for this hike. No need for hiking boots at all. You do need a supportive pair of lace up shoes. No sandals for this hike. ENJOY!:goodvibes

Just an FYI...we booked the jetboat on our own. Same one Disney offers but a HUGE price difference plus my 6 year old can go. For all 3 of us it is barely more then Disney would charge for one!

Yay!!! Thanks for the info!

Hi everyone! I just placed a hold on the 9/2/2012 cruise and am hoping hubby and I can make this (have to confirm a work schedule tomorrow). We got the military (retired) discount so it was an awesome price (for any cruise let alone Disney)! We are (or were) to be taking our 1st cruise in March 2013 with our kids (10 & 12) and then saw this deal. We may be cruising without them first to "check it out." ;)

Anyway, love reading everyone's comments and seeing pictures and crossing my fingers this works out!

Stephanie

* Edited to add I just looked at the non military price and was shocked that they are offering such a discount! We are Cat 5B with verandah, deck 7 and the total fare for both is $1136.00 versus the $2636 on the website! Less then half price!

Question for the Halifax locals.

We're on the August 5 sailing from NYC and have booked a DCL excursion from 12:15 to Peggy's Cove and Titantic stuff (I know it includes Fairview cemetery, not sure what else). Would this be with Ambassatours?

We had wanted to see the Maritime Museum and could do that in the morning. I'm currently dealing with a foot injury and, while I can walk, two straight 15 minute walks might do me in (sounds pitiful).

Would taxis take us from the ship to the museum without complaint?

We did the Learn the Ropes in Halifax and my daughter enjoyed this a lot. She's 11, but she was the oldest child in there; most were in your child's age.

In Saint John, we did the Maple Sugar Shack excursion and it was GREAT! I LOVED IT! I would recommend it to anyone of any age.

I'm pretty sure the Peggy's Cove was Ambassatours. I'm not home, but I can double check when I get back on Sunday. I LOVED Fairview cemetery (that's all it included except for Peggy's Cove). I thought Peggy's cover was more of a touristy trap. It was a great view, but mostly it was gift shops.

I'm not sure about Taxis, but we did the museum through a disney excursion that morning before we did the Peggy's Cover/Fairview excursion and they provided a pink hop on hop off bus.

Hi ALL,
Getting ready to book excursions and was hoping to get some feedback. Which excursions do you think would be ok for a 10mos old and a 3yr old.
for Halifax interested in doing
Peggys Cove & Titanic
"" """ & hop on/off bus or
10 best of halifax

for st Johns
Bay of fundy & st martins or
Big pink bus hop on/off

Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

My family (DH & 11yr old DS) chose to go on our own in St. John & book the zip line adventure. The reviews are fantastic for it on Trip Advisor & Cruise Critic. We were thinking of the jet boats, but Disney wouldn't let us book it for our son. Disney's age limit is 13. Thought about booking on our own because privately (with same excursion vendor) there is only a height/weight limit & my son meets it, but opted for the zip lining instead. Jet boating is a great option for those who want to try something different. We did it on the Niagara River last year & had a blast. You do get soaked though!

Looked into direct booking for Jet Boat: I read on the website that height limit is 42 inches tall and those younger than 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult; But "During two hours at low tide, all participants must be over 13 years old." jetboatrides.com

As for Zip Line: No age or height requirement for the tour but all participants must be between 70-270 pounds - which can change up or down depending on the wind. saintjohnadventures.ca
