Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

Hi! We're finally back home and I'm just starting to get organized for a TR so please come on over and share my excitement!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=45411229#post45411229

We wandered Halifax on our own, went to the Maritime Museum and climbed up to the Citadel, enjoyed shopping around and walking around. In Saint John we did the Jet Boat ride, also booked it on our own (on line), WAY FUN!!! And way nice folks running it, too! Also walked around and did some shopping and DH found the "Jewish Museum and Synagogue". The Barbour's General Store has checker board tables in the back, and around the corner from the store is an Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar store with a tasting bar! You can pose for pictures next to life-sized statues of people or with various moose statues. We liked Saint John!

This thread was a HUGE help in planning the ports and getting excited for Canada. We were very happy with the port days!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we submitted the Navigators from our June 10-15 cruise and they are online now. If you go to "Staterooms" on the menu bar above, and choose "Navigators" on the drop down menu you'll see them.

Hi! I just tried printing all 5 Navigators, but I keep getting an image error on Day 4; the rest printed fine. Has anyone else tried printing them in the last day or so and was successful with this one in particular? I'm wondering if the file is bad now.

Thanks for posting them all!

Try to print day 4 page by page ! There is an error with page number 3 and thus when you try to print the whole document it will prompt with an error. If you print each page separately you can at least get 3 pages - the document is broken since it was posted...

Thanks, Thorb73! I was able to print pages 1, 2 and 4 of Day 4.

All you Canada cruisers, have you heard anything about this excursion? We have it booked, but have heard no feedback about this one in particular. Thinking of maybe cancelling and just doing the hop on/off bus instead.
Thanks

We are booked on this next week. I'm not sure when your cruise is but if it is not next week I'll let you know when we get back.

We're not going until September, so YES, I would love to know how it goes. Have a wonderful trip!

From my office window this morning. Why can't this be everyday? ;)

I like your office view. Much better than my view of the interstate, especially when the Magic is sailing by.

I'll be there next week. I'll be sure to wave. :)

Hope you get as nice weather as they did today! Actually, the three Magic visits have had nice weather. This week it's going to be extremely nice all week so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Be warned, it can change on a moments notice!

U2, did you get the info on the NS Meet???
I might have a couple of tickets available.

We are also cruising in September and thought about doing this. Which cruise are you going on, we will be leaving September 7. Would love to hear about this excursion also.

Any feedback on this... It includes a cable car ride over the reversing falls and pancakes... Sounds like fun. Just wondering if anybody did it and how it was.

Thanks

Sept 7 as well! We're doing hop on/off in Halifax. I like the freedom of coming and going as we please especially with young ones. So not sure if I want to do the Saint John highlights. Although 3hrs isn't bad, we'd be back on the ship by 12:30ish.

We are doing this cruise with my dad (in his early 80's) so I am thinking of something more structured and not too long. My stepson will also be with us and he is 23 so we need something that both will like. I also would love to do the pub tour.

Hopefully we will meet on the ship.

Our original plan was to drive up the day before and stay overnight in NJ, then park at the port. Then I found out that parking at the port costs $35/night, so now we're reevaluating, as we do not have an extra $300 right now. From my online research, it seems like we could probably stay overnight almost anywhere and arrange to leave our car there and take private transportation/taxi to the port. We could also park at a ferry and take that across, then take a cab. Driving up that morning to save the hotel money is also an option (it is about a 5 hour drive). We need to take into consideration that we have 2 young kids and a bunch of suitcases and would like to reduce the amount of schlepping as much as possible. Did anyone come up with any different options?

I appreciate your feedback!

Staying in NJ the night before is good, especially since the rates will be considerably cheaper than in NYC. Don't forget the $12 to cross the bridge or use the tunnel!

Parking anywhere in Manhattan is outrageous, but there are a few options within a block or two of the cruise terminal that are a lot less than at the port itself. Visit www.bestparking.com and just enter the address of the terminal. It will show you your options around the terminal. You can drop everyone and the luggage off at the port, go park, and then walk the few blocks back by yourself.

Just keep in mind to arrive early as most do not take reservations. And make sure you note whether or not they are cash only!

Theres not a whole lot of ways around the cost of parking. The absolute cheapest option would be to drive in that morning, drop an adult with the kids and suitcases curbside and park at the cheapest Manhattan parking garage you can find (use bestparking as Prinny suggested) then depending how far that parking is from the pier either walk or take a taxi back. When you get back to port you will most likely all want to take the taxi back to the car together if you can fit. (Otherwise your husband will have to go get the car and come back to pick you up which will mean a LOT of waiting)
