Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Today, with blister covered, I decided to see how far I could walk only in 3 hours. Well, I did 10 miles in about 2 hours and 20 minutes. I was going to try to do 2 more miles, but my BIL and neice came with Girl Scout Cookie delivery, so that was the end of that. :thumbsup2
Anyway, I was encouraged by my times and distance today. Previously, I have only done 8 miles about 2x, 9 miles 2x, and 6 miles several times. At about 6 or 7 miles, I start to get really achy and clothing discomforts start to set in. I'm hoping that I can get in a good one next Saturday - my last chance before the real thing!! ~Debbie

Congratulations Debbie.:thumbsup2
It is so exciting to have only 2 more weeks to go.

I did it, I ran/walk 11 miles today!!!!!!! I am so happy that I did it. I really feel like I can run/walk the 13.1 now!!!!!

Yeah Shawna.
I know that excited feeling.:cool1: That is exactly how I felt last week when I did my long walk (12m). Congratulations. :thumbsup2 Won't be long now.:yay:

Thanks Shawna and Gretchen for commenting!

Gretchen - wow! You have walked 12 miles! I was so hoping to get to that today...maybe next weekend...and the next!princess::scared1:

It was so nice today with the sun finally shining - I kept trying to think of what the weather will feel like while we are doing the marathon.

I am so excited for this. I really think this is the only one I will ever do, unless I end up feeling like it's so fun and easy (yeah, right! :rotfl2:) or if I don't finish - I will have to give it another try!

I just tried to keep picturing The Castle!

I completed my 10 mile run on Friday night and it was horrible. Did it all on the treadmill and felt tired the entire time. Time was fine at 1:18, but really struggled and didn't feel good. Did something to my ankle I guess too. not sure what, but on Saturday morning I was walking out the door and it popped. Hurt a little then, but no big deal. Later it felt really stiff with some discomfort, but not painful. Rain Saturday night without any issues. Then Sunday morning I get up and look at my ankle and it is swollen about twice the normal size and bruised, but no pain. I took today off and will see what it looks like.

I'm excited for the is race since one of my weight loss goals two years ago was to do the a Disney run. Two years and 95 lbs later and it's going to happen. Of course I always thought I'd do the Marathon weekend and run that half or the DL half with my brother, but the Princess is going to be great.

I'm actually a little intimiated by the low number of males running though. No big deal, but i looked at last year's results and saw there were only about 200 out of the 13,000 runners.

Quick drive by here...

Wanted to let those who know me know that I won't be there for Princess weekend after all. I have several races on my schedule this year and my budget tells me I need to let this one go.

For those of you who are Princess first-timers, I'll tell you that I LOVED the Princess Half (and 5K) -- lots of characters, a very relaxed supportive environment -- I know you'll love it too!

Have a great race -- and a great weekend! :grouphug:

skinsfan sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you are feeling better in time for the race. Don't let the numbers of women bother you.:goodvibes

skinsfan - my DH is coming and we are going with another couple (man and woman). This is a first for all of us.

We live in MD - are you a Redskins fan?!

I did it, I ran/walk 11 miles today!!!!!!! :woohoo: I am so happy that I did it. I really feel like I can run/walk the 13.1 now!!!!! Around mile 3 I was wondering how I was going to make it but for some reason is actually got easier (except for the last couple miles, I was really getting fatigued).

congrats!
I`ve also noticed that I hit a wall around mile 3, and than get my second wind.

I did my last long run on Sat. I gave extreme sport beans a try; I had 1/2 a pack before the run and 1/2 of a normal pack 1/2 way through. I ran out of energy in the last 2 miles, so I`ll have to take more during the race.

I finaly dawed on me last night how close we are!

Wendy You will be missed.

I fully understand about budgets, I had to pull out of my laft two marathons, so that /i could go to Boston. I'm only able to do the Princess as I live here and Spria are entering me.

You all sure are chatty! I just don't have the time to keep up with you all right now! :) On top of training for the race, the Army is moving us to Missouri in April so I've been insane-o busy getting ready for the move along with everything else!

I ran 7 miles yesterday, and I did most of the run with a 5 run/1 walk pace. I did take a few longer walk breaks (a few 2-3, and one 5 min), but overall I felt great. Now if my right leg (knee/groin) get on track with the rest of my body! I've been having a lot of pain, but I'm just running through it. My friend is a PT, and she thinks it's my ITBS so I've been doing some strength training with that. The Air Force Base has a great 6.5 mile loop that is well marked and well traveled so I am hoping to do at least 10 over there this week. I even thought about doubling it, but we'll see if I'm that ambitious! My husband also got me a road bike this week for my birthday so I was able to get 7.5 miles in on the bike because yesterday was a gorgeous day here!

The friend I am running with is another story! She did 10 miles yesterday (I think) running most of it. She seems to think that we'll still run together next weekend, but that won't be happening. On top of her running most of it, she is also much faster than me. I just hope she doesn't let me hold her back. I hooked up with another runner on Twitter, and we're much closer paced. We're planning to run/walk together. Thank God I met her! :)

I did have a question about post-race transportation. How crazy is it? We thought about spotting a car, but I don't know if that is necessary. My plan is to head to MK for a bit to walk off the race, and then we have ADRs at Kona for lunch. Can anyone who ran last year offer any advice or tell me what it was like?

Looking forward to meeting you ladies! I cannot believe that the race is SO soon!!! Insane!!!! :yay::woohoo::scared1:

First of all Congrats on the 95 lb weight loss!!!! What an accomplishment in it's self!!!! Second don't be intimidated, I bet you will get lots of cheers and an abundance of support. It takes a lot to sign up for a race that is mostly geared towards women but you are going to have an awesome time!

Hope that your ankle heals quickly! I would totally rest until race time, maybe just a light run next week or even a walk if it's still swollen. Don't take any unnecessary chances. Best of luck!

Call me silly but I had no idea you were a man!! Don't be intimidated by the low number of males--personally, I wish they would call it Prince & Princess. Since this is your first race, I think it's going to be special no matter what! Congratulations on your weight loss. That alone is something to be proud of!!

Set your goals high for next year and run the marathon!! Your time for the half looks amazing. I have had days where my runs just don't feel right. It could be anything from fatigue to a full stomach or just plain old burn out. Rest up a bit before the race and you will have your mo-jo back in no time! I hope your ankle is better today.

Thanks for all the encouragement. My ankle actually looks really good today. I'll be doing a short run at lunch time and will see how it goes.

I'm a huge Redskins fan. While I'm in Ohio now, all my family is DC area and we are still in denial of the Daniel Snyder era.

Congrats on the transfer. I am sure you are so busy. Training for the race, moving, being a wife etc....

I know what you mean about keeping up with a running partner. I think if you have a good talk with him/her and let them know what you would enjoy the race more if you didn't have to worry about holding her back. Maybe make a deal to run the first 3 miles together and meet up at the finish line. Since you have a Twitter running buddy, you will not be a lone and that might maker it easier for her to run ahead.

I can't comment on transportation--only that I have heard taking a car to the race can be stressful since there are so many road closures. I would take the buses provided then post race, if you plan to head to MK, take the monorail over. Maybe someone else can comment.

Good luck with your long run this week!!!

Skinfan76 Have you gotten your Princess outfit yet? There was only 6000 runners last year and most of the 200 men had Princess outfits on-oh they looked so cute (and creepy :rotfl2:). JK

Final long run today-it's raining-on the TM-9.5 miles in 90 min.

ArmyWife3-4 Hopefully your friend will run with you..it is so much fun to have your picture taken with characters along the way and a photo in front of the castle together. Don't worry about time, there is so much to see and enjoy. If you want to go for time, find a race close to home that has less entertainment and fun.

Joan, raining here too (of course!!). :) Good luck on your TM run!! Isn't it ironic though? Yesterday was GORGEOUS here, but that never seems to coordinate with walk/run days!

Hockey is over, thankfully. I am really tired today so will probably not run again until Wed.

Shins are good, though, and the only thing I am is sore. Not hurt, just sore, so that's good.

Sounds like everyone is making great progress! Less than 2 weeks away! :goodvibes

BlakeNJ and Joan4Mickey I really don't think once we get started that we will stick together (my friend from here that is). She actually had the audacity (lol! ;)) to tell me we weren't going to stop for the characters! WHAT?!?!? Clearly, she is just not as 'Disney' as I am.

She's a good friend, but she just doesn't really get it. Her husband was sent to Haiti so her mom is now coming instead. Well now her husband may be home early, and she said well I'll just bring the both. Ummm....first off, she STILL has not called WDW to make the change from husband to mom on the reservations, and I made ALL of our ADR's 180 days out. She doesn't get that you just can't show up with an extra person there and expect it to be alright. I think she thinks I'm a bit of a Disney snob :snooty: but if you want to make the best of your trip you have to plan! Hellooooooooo.....:headache:

Oh well. I told DH that we'll just do our own thing and plan to see them at meals. She rather glazed over when I tried to talk to her about our plans (best parks, rides, etc.) so se la vie, right? I just hope they don't leave us high and dry and the ADRs or I'll feel terrible and be embarassed!

Thanks for letting me vent...It's nice to have fellow DISers who understand all that goes into planning our kind of trip and the frustrations of bringing along someone who just doesn't get it...

Glad to see everyone is doing so well with their training. I still in shock that it's so soon! :woohoo:

Thanks for the info. I actually called the Contemporary and the lady was very helpful but basically said I'd have to catch a taxi...but good to know that I can take a taxi to the Polynesian. One person I spoke with said the Monorail would not be operating that early in the a.m. ....but will be nice if it is! How early did you head out that morning?

You're right--your friend doesn't get it! Stop for characters and had FUN!!!

If Disney Dining can't adjust your ressies, I think you would be surprised--Disney is pretty good about adding a person to a ressie once you arrive at the restaurant. It has happened to me a few times and they have been great about it. Just arrive a little bit early.

They will certainly be okay if you show up without the people on the ADRs. That one is no big deal at all, just say that their plans changed, or even that their flight got delayed. :)

I have never tried to add a person, but it would likely depend on the reservation. Like, a resort restaurant will likely say no problem, but somewhere hot like Le Cellier might give you trouble.

I so know what you mean about folks not getting it on the ADRs and planning, though. We went a few years back with some friends of DH's, and they thought we were nuts for planning so much.

Army Wife - you DEFINATELY have to stop for a few pics!! We (my mom and i ) did last year, especially the shot as you come out from running thru the castle... what a great moment to remember!!

Wendy -- i was looking forward to seeing you! You will be missed, but i totally understand!!

momto2littlemonsters - I also feel like the first few miles are the hard part, and i usually get a second wind during miles 4-7 then it seems to slow a bit.. LOL Congrats, you will do FINE!
