Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Shawna, Hi! I would suggest a lime green ribbon or to get a lime green mickey head paint chip from Home Depot - to identify you as a WISH'er.. I will be wearing a ribbon somehow -- mabye in my ponytail?

Since we're so close to the race, I thought I would show you all the lovely tutu's (err...Princess skirts) my friend and I will be running in. Yes, we are insane, but we're probably only going to do this once so we might as well go big! DH is also prepared for the pass off in the event is really does drive me nuts!

(Disclaimer: please excuse all of the other stuff in the room. It has become our bike storage and packing headquarters!)

I picked Belle as my princess, so I will be wearing the yellow, and my friend, who picked Ariel will be wearing pink. (We thought red would be a bit much!)

Very cute!! Did you make them? BTW - now the pic works in the first post!

Yes, I made them, and it was super easy and so much cheaper than buying one. I think in total mine was about $12. Now my 3 year old neighbor wants one after seeing mine so I'm making her a purple one. The only sewing it required was for the elastic otherwise the tulle is just tied around the elastic waist. I even saw some online with directions for sing ribbon for the waist so you could just tie it. I wanted to be able to slip mine on and off easily though.

Awesome job! Maybe you will have a side career! LOL

Trying to answer a couple questions tha t I did not see get answered. however, I forgot who posted what now. :flower3:

POR DInner - The meet will be at their food court. So, it's a Disney counter service. We all pay our own. Can use DDP if you have it.

Post-Race Transportation - It was fine last year for Princess. The only time I've ever seen it bad for a WDW race was this January for teh half marathon. With a smaller number of racers adn fewer resorts to go to, ti should be fine.

We are checking out from ASM the day of the race. I just started thinking about if we will have time to go back to the hotel and shower after the race. I hope so since we have to get on a plane! Has anyone asked about late check out? Isn't normal check out at 11am?

Yes, normal checkout is 11am, you could explain you are in the race, and ask for a late check out - wouldn't hurt to ask.. but if they say no - then you can have bell services hold your luggage, and then you can shower by the pool - usually they have a bathroom with shower facilities there -- that's usually what we do when we leave - we spend the afternoon by the pool while they hold our luggage then we shower there..

We are flying out that day too, we are at POR. I asked and they said they could request it...no guarantees though. We are planning on going back and soaking in the hot tub, then showering and checking our luggage in and takin the boat to downtown disney until ME takes us to the airport.

Not at Disney, but I have never had trouble getting a late check out of a hotel, when I've told them that I'm racing.

I don't think that you wolud have any trouble, but you should not need it, you will all be finished in plenty of time, have faith.

ok I have a 3 and 5 year old. The plan WAS to go to the waterpark the day after so I would have little walking. But the weather did not read my plans!!

Any Ideas? I have ap's but really want to take it easy on the walking but still keep kiddos entertained....swimming would be perfect but oh ya I already mentioned my weather rant.

I am having trouble with new othotics and am afraid I may be blistered. Runing store told me to put bandaids over them then DUCK TAPE. I have not had one blister till I got new orthotics this week....already using body glide and layered socks....blisters will equal take it easy next day...but kids do not.

would ak resort be worth spending some time at? We are new dvc members so if it was warm enough for a swim we can pool hop to certain pools.

AKL and AKV pools along with Stormalong bay are not included in pool hopping, so unless you are staying there, you're not supposed to use those pools. Boardwalk and Poly are popular pool-hopping destinations as they have fun slides.

Other ideas - if you could visit a park, I'd suggest DHS could be good, given that there is less distance in the park. Anything is going to be tough if you have blisters, of course. There was one time after a race that I actually rented a scooter - an expensive option but keeps things moving for the kids. Do you still have the old orthotics? Any chance you could wear those for the race at least?

About your blisters - I'm going to ask the tough questions because I may have missed your full explanation - are they liquid-filled or already drained? Do you have molefoam?

I drained them and they only took about two days to feel ok. I don't know what molefoam is? I have my old orthotics but my hip really hurts after mile 5 I never got a blister though. I made it to mile 8 with ild orthotics but my hip hurt for days so I got new ones...same script.

I never thought of the scooter..... If I can\t walk it might be a plan.

I am hoping to avoid new blisters race day but I don't know how likley that is. I could feel them former on mile two. I am doing 5 miles this weekend and that is my last long walk. I should have had them at the start of my training but I didn't realize I needed new ones till my hip startet to hurt 3 weeks ago.....the troubles of getting old:rotfl:

And I do realize about not being able to swim at akv...I was wondering about visiting the animals. If it is warm enough visitig ssr.....I would like to visit spa but dh will have had the kiddos race day....not to mention throughout training.

treehugnmama First, don't count on weather reports this far out...it is only a guess based on moving air masses thousands of miles away-a more accurate report will come later. Second, Bandaid brand used to have a product for blisters-it was a "bandaid" that you warmed in your hands and then placed over the blister and it stayed on for a few days-in the water, shower etc. I would try one pre race if that is what you go with, same for the molefoam.

I agree, do NOT go off the current weather reports! In fact, both me and my sis have made a pack to NOT check the weather at all until this Friday.. (we leave on next Thurs) - as it was stressing me out.. LOL So, i am just crossing my fingers and waiting to pack til the last minute - living in New England, i know how fast weather can change.. so i am use to it!

OK - good about the pool hopping. You mentioned AKV in the same place as you mentioned pool hopping so I wasn't sure. Definitely, if your family enjoys animal-watching, AKV is a great place to visit. We spent quite an enjoyable morning just talking to some of the guides out near one of the savannas last time we were there, both about the animals and about her experience working at Disney. Her home is South Africa and she told us a lot about her home as well. Very pleasant, stress-free and educational. They have events at the lodge during the day as well. There is cookie decorating at Boma around lunch time, for instance.

Molefoam is something you can buy at any drugstore in the foot-care department. It's like a cushiony sort of sticky stuff. That or moleskin can be used to prevent chafing, but I wouldn't put it on an already existing blister.

The duct tape may sound like a crazy idea, but I have actually heard it before! Could be worth a try! Definitely try out your options before the race. You definitely want to avoid trying new stuff that day. Good luck and keep us posted!

Not to be overly redundant (and also a New Englander) but don't count on the weather forecast. I remember the weekend before the Princess last year was 60 degrees but then we had upper 70's on Sunday and Monday of the race---so beautiful!

BUT...having AP's, I'm sure you've been to the World all different times of year. Until last year, we'd only been in the late spring & summer. We went in November and it was about 70 and we had the best time at Animal Kingdom which had been our least favorite park prior. We also found the animals were much more active than in the warmer months...you could take the safari a couple times ;). Because of the animals and so many benches, it might be a great option for you.

The molefoam is a great option. There are also walking socks that are double fabric. I own them and used them quite a bit when training last year for the MS walk. However, I've never gotten consitent bad blisters so I can't speak to whether they would help them. The brand name that I have is "WrightSock".

One last thing...I did finish last year with 1 bad blister and ended up wearing my running shoes in the parks (was planning on my Teva's). It definitely helped to have the support and that the shoe was kind of molded to my foot so it didn't rub the blister.

Getting closer....:cheer2:
