Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I got my 10 in today. Now I know I can do 13. It may not be pretty, but I can do it!!

I also learned some important things, lol, like fueling is for real and serious business. I only took one GU with me because I planned on doing 8 miles only. I had it early at mile 3. I started out going out for four miles and then back. I felt good around 5 (after the GU kicked in, DUH) and decided to go for 10. Called DH at home and told him to put another GU and a water in my mailbox. I got home at 8 to get the new water and do the last two in the neighborhood and opted NOT to take the GU thinking I was almost done. Dumb, dumb, dumb. The last two miles were not fun and I had some swirlies going around in my eyes. I think I was getting lightheaded. I should have taken another GU way before 8. I won't do that again.

Another reason for doing long runs at home, right, so you can make these silly mistakes on a day other than the Big Day?

Also my Garmin turned itself off three times during the run. I thought maybe doing intervals was wearing down the battery really fast but when I looked up the specs (it is a Forerunner 205) it said the battery life is 10 hours. So that is a headscratcher for sure. Nothing like running your heart out only to look down and see your time and distance hasn't counted!!

Other than that, I'm getting excited! Four weeks from today!! Woo hoo!! Keep up the good work, my fellow Princesses!

we're offically one month out today from race day...just think, by this time next week, we'll all have our gorgeous tiara medals and have finished 13.1 in disney!

for all you northeasters - i think we are all in the same boat with the weather and we just gotta do what what can and make the best of it. if it makes anyone feel better, my first 13.1 i did completely running the furthest i went was 9 (i foolishly scheduled a 10-miler the week before the race and my body needed a taper week) and i finished right at my goal time. my father (pt specializing in sports/running, running coach, ironman triathlete, all around running guru) says for first timers, you really only need to go go 10 once, and 8 is the magic number (if you can do 8, you'll finish 13.1). he only encourages the longer 12s when your body is more used to the distance, and when you are training to race for a specific time goal. he says he prefers the distance newbies to have fresher muscles at race day. so it sounds like everyone is more than enough on the right path to finishing!!

Oh thank you for these words of encouragement.
Last week we (my daughter and I) did 9m and this week was 8m. So, you have made me feel so much better. The snow has really hampered our outside walks this week and we are hoping to do at least one 12m before we leave for the Princess.
It sounds like everyone is working hard and trying to get through this winter weather.
Looking forward to March, Princess Half, and warm weather!

Brookie, I recommend worrying that you may be pregnant. That will delay it every time. :rotfl:

Too funny! Isn't that the truth!

I need to get a physical soon, I might just schedule it this week and see if the dr will give me a script for something...not sure how all that works, but I have been told that progesterone will work.

I am on the pill, so I would just start a new pack instead of taking the white pills.

My walk/run today went well. Managed to do it outside, even though 45 is a bit chilly it really wasn't too bad.

Today was supposed to be 6 miles, but I wound up doing 7 because I missed the ".5" mile marker and didn't turn around until the next ".0". Total time, 1 hour 41 min, so an avg of about 14.5 min per mile. I didn't run much, mostly walked, so I am pretty happy with it.

I found a nice trail that is mostly flat, and paved for most of it with a gravel part on the side. I walked on the paved, ran on the gravel.

My new shoes held up great, no blisters or sore spots.

So today at least, I am feeling like I might finish. :goodvibes

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Can anyone give a good idea of how "hilly" the course will be? I've never paid attention while on the buses.

I have heard the on/off ramps are tough, also I know we go down under the water bridge thing right before the Contemp....I remember when we were down there in Nov thinking, that might be one of the tough ones...but you do hit it pretty early on.

That is all I know, someone else who ran it last year might be able to give you a better idea.

There is a hill at the water bridge at CR. It is steep, but short. The worst hill is the ramp heading up to the overpass as you exit from World Drive. That hill is long and since it is a street ramp, it is banked. I believe there are two more shorter hills going over overpasses after that and before you get into Epcot. Hth!

Brookie & Kat - Yay!!!

deckidesign - lol. You sound liek me, except I swore off runnign after HS. It' smuch more enjoyable when youdo it for your won reasons and not for why the coach wants you to perform.

Debbie - You'll be fine. My training plan maxes at 10 fro halfs. You can do it!

Megan - Forgive me. I know I had a ton to say to you either on this thread or the Feb thread, but my mind went blank. :guilty:

Brookie - If on teh pill, Kat is right, just go to then next month's pills and you will skip it. However, if you can't work it out, while it's not the best, it can be dealt with.

We're gettign close everyone!

Looks like you're from MI too :) Can't wait for this cold winter to go away!

deleckidesign - yeah, I'm not countign on the cold going away soon, though. I'm just grateful taht teh path has been claear lately. Of course, that will likely end tomorrow. :guilty: What area are you in?

Well it's done...9 miles on the treadmill-I just put it at 6.2 ( which is a 9:40 mile) and tried my best to stay focused...I had hoped to do my long runs outside, but I'm a wimp---its gotta be sunny and 60 before I get out there. I also munched a bag of sports jelly beans during my run.

The Princess is pretty much a flat course...The under ramp near the CR I find a bit steep, but short and you are almost to MK so there is a reward to look forward to. The sweeping ramp off World Drive I don't mind as it's not so sweep. Maybe I'm just delirious by then.

I will top out at 10 miles next week..remember some of you may be running more than once a week-so I often will look at total miles per week a a good indicator of how I'm doing. I won't run or cross train the last two days before the race (i.e I'll take Friday and Saturday off). Monday-Thursday that week will be much lighter workouts and runs.

I'm amazed at anyone that can do that long of a run on a treadmill. I don't know what it is, but put me outside, I can go for miles. Put me on a treadmill and I convince myself that I might die if I don't stop (usually by 2 miles!) :rotfl2: I know it's mental, but so true for me! I did my 10 mile run Saturday and it was about 38 outside. I tried the Cliff shot blocks ( I think that's what they are called) and loved them. It's getting close!

Thanks for all the info about the hills on the course!:worship:

I am the exact opposite, Lori! I could go all day on a treadmill, but outside I lose it. I don't know if it's because I can see how far I have to go, or what, but I can't do it.:confused3

Lori - I'm with you on TMs!! Just acn't do it. DH adn I did a 10-miler on them once. He still swears it was 20. :rotfl:

Isn't it funny how different it is for each of us? I didn't do as well outside until I got my Garmin forerunner. I love being able to go wherever and not worry about a course or keeping up with how far I've gone. As long as I never lap my house before I'm done, I'm good. Maybe that's why the treadmill is so hard for me. I know I can just hit stop at any time.

I think I do better outside than on the TM. My pace is better. Maybe because I am tall, with most of my height as leg? I think my walking stride is longer outside. I always feel unstable on the TM, like I am going to fall off or trip or do something stupid.

I did manage 10 miles on the TM last week but I enjoyed the outside 7 miles yesterday a lot more. 45 is definitely my lower limit for weather, though... it was tolerable but a bit chilly for my taste.

I die on the indoor roller too.

For me the worst hills are the ramps leading back to Epcot. Your just get up one and then there is another one to do!!!!

I love shot blocks too.....cola ones. I must admit I some times eat them as candy!!!!!!

If you follow my 1 piece of advice, you could never look too bad on the TM. You can go off the back and hardly anyone will notice. It is highly-recommended however that you do not try to get back on to save face. That can be disastrous. :rolleyes1

Assuming of course, I actually earn one (because right now I have my doubts :sad2:)...

You are going to do great!!!! The fact that you are going there and trying is more than most people will ever do in their lives! Smile, walk, jog, run, skip, or hop..... just have fun doing it!!!!!

Hugs,
Shawna
