Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

You're not allowed to talk like that!!!!!!!

All the Wish Princess WILL get there medals.

When my mom was booking our hotel room the lady on the phone told her to make sure and wear the medal in the parks; my mom expressed doubt that she would get a medal and the lady gave her a little pep talk. So even Disney is rooting for you!

I have a 12.5 mile run scheduled for Sunday, my only day off this week, and now the snow is coming down pretty heavy. Think there is any chance 6 inches will melt by then? lol

Finally, the airfare special came out that I was hoping for and I was able to get my flights all lined up for the Princess weekend. Now I need to work like mad to get my hours in (my job is hourly) so my family doesn't have to suffer from my obsession! Looks like I'll be there Thursday through Monday (very early) morning. (Cheap flights aren't always the kindest to my work schedule, but today I'll be grateful for a cheap flight.)

Hope some of you luck into some good fares as well!

Hummm... better make sure that Sunday long "run" (walk, in my case) really happens now! ;)

I just got a DING fare from RDU-MCO for $69, but I think I am going to drive anyhow. It just allows for more flexibility to have my car there. It costs about the same in gas to drive as it would to fly.

Glad that you got a cheap flight!!

I didn't realize you flew out of RDU! Yep, I got a nonstop flight, so it's pretty quick, and with the gas mileage that my minivan gets, flying is definitely cheaper. (Especially considering I'm not stopping at Cracker Barrels along the way to shop! :rotfl:)

I will say both my brother and husband fall into your camp, though, and always drive. As far as I'm concerned, if I can get the right flight, I'd rather do that than make the long drive alone. I never use a car at Disney -- just rely on the Disney transportation -- so I don't miss having my car there.

But we're lucky that we can each make the choice that suits us best. :thumbsup2

Drive carefully!

LOL ;) cheap flights are wonderful!!!

I still do not have my flight yet ......... still gonna hold out until the week before before I buy anything. Fingers crossed it will all work out, otherwise I may be paying top dollar for a flight for the Princess.

Been sick since I came home from Disney on Sunday night - only managed 1 run of 3 miles and I am hoping for 3 tonight and maybe 8 tomorrow. Sometimes a break is best, and Im ok with what ever happens ------ :confused3

P.S. Remind me of that when I am freaking out later ;)

I live about 8 min from RDU, actually. Durham, but about 1 mile from the Wake County line. I am usually on the fence about driving/flying but this time the car will really come in handy (changing resorts 3-4 times).

If you are in the R-D area and are not a fast runner (i.e. in the "wog" camp), and want to get together for longer walk/runs, let me know! :goodvibes

New to this thread!

A bit about me:
I was a runner in high school (track and cross country), but got busy during my college years and stopped :( Got married, gained a few pounds. My husband and I spent most of last year losing extra weight - I've lost 32 lbs and am currently at my goal weight.

By losing weight, we learned to eat better, exercise and weight train regularly, and so I'm getting back into running and so excited about it!

We're training for our first half marathon in May in Indianapolis (500 Festival).

In the midst of half marathon excitement, and while on vacation in Disney World (RIGHT NOW!!!), I decided to look up info about the WDW Half Marathon next January!

The plan is to sign up! My mom is interested in going with me (she is a Disney World addict! Who isn't?)...so, when does the half normally fill up? Should I wait until after my first half in Indy to sign up for this one, or will it be too late then?

Any other training tips or other advice welcome!

Looking forward to spending a lot more time on this board! ;)

I'm right there with you! We have over 2 feet here in southern NJ & I had a 10miler planned for tomorrow! There's no way I can suck it up on the treadmill for that long!

Holding out for those super cheap flights on Spirit, but I'm getting nervous! They haven't failed me yet! And there hasn't even been a 'Ding' lately. I'm going to be doing my running dance to the cheap airfare gods tomorrow!

I'm getting very excited that our trip to WDW is getting closder, but this SNOW has been really putting a damper on my training. I have only done 9 miles (walking/minimal jogging) 3 times and the fastest was 2 hours and I was MOANING the next 3 days. That was 3 weeks ago. I have walked an average of 3 miles in the a.m. everyday since college (30+ years ago) but I don't think I'm prepared for this timed 13 mile race.

I don't do more than 3 or 4 miles on my tm because it's soooo boring, although a good workout because I do an incline and keep up my pace.

I'm determined to get out on my slippery street tomorrow and do some good mileage!

I love reading what the rest of you are saying, although I'm not really following any training program...can you tell?!

Hoping to meet some of you

we're offically one month out today from race day...just think, by this time next week, we'll all have our gorgeous tiara medals and have finished 13.1 in disney!

for all you northeasters - i think we are all in the same boat with the weather and we just gotta do what what can and make the best of it. if it makes anyone feel better, my first 13.1 i did completely running the furthest i went was 9 (i foolishly scheduled a 10-miler the week before the race and my body needed a taper week) and i finished right at my goal time. my father (pt specializing in sports/running, running coach, ironman triathlete, all around running guru) says for first timers, you really only need to go go 10 once, and 8 is the magic number (if you can do 8, you'll finish 13.1). he only encourages the longer 12s when your body is more used to the distance, and when you are training to race for a specific time goal. he says he prefers the distance newbies to have fresher muscles at race day. so it sounds like everyone is more than enough on the right path to finishing!!

Good afternoon from snowed in Maryland. Between snow and strep thoat I have not run in 2.5 weeks :scared1: . No way I'm not adding this medal to my collection! Can't wait to see everyone in 4 weeks. I finally booked my return flight last night (great price drop) and have had my dep flight booked for a while now. Getting in at 8:50am Thurs and flying out at 6:00pm on Tues, staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. My DH JUST realized how long I'll be gone, lol. I figured I really NEED to spend time in the parks this trip. The last 3 trips have been all about the races ( WDW 09 & 10, and Princess 09), this time I plan to enjoy spending time in the parks with my fellow WISHers and ROTEers.

I am also excited to see the International Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot. I have never been down when this is going on and I have always been fascinated by Disney Topiaries.

Fashionista, thanks!!! That makes me feel a lot better actually. I was coming here to post O.M.G., 4 weeks!!

I have a problem with training in that the weekend of Feb 21s was supposed to be my longest wog (11.5) but I have a 3-4 game ice hockey tournament that weekend and don't think I can do both.

So, maybe I will do 6 this weekend (recovery), 10 next weekend, and then just do my short wogs? Any thoughts?

It's 40 and sunny here, so considering braving the trail alone. Does anyone here ever feel unsafe doing this alone?

Were you able to get your 10 in? I ended up doing laps around the neighborhood.

Thanks for the great advice... I did my 8 miles today... it was soo cold and windy (I'm in NH) I didn't think I was going to make it! It wasn't pretty but I did it! It's good to hear that if I can do the 8 than the 13.1 is doable!!

4 weeks...I'm nervous, but its exciting too.

I did take this weekend off running, but the good news is I don't think it was a serious injury, I feel healed already.

On a side note, maybe tmi, BUT does anyone know how to eliminate or delay a period? I am due the day before the race:mad:
