Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Brookie1972 : We have been doing interval training, running 2 minutes and walking one minute seems to be the best mix for us. We should be able to keep it under a 15 minute pace (without stops) I guess that is what scares me. We will have to remember this and limit our stops, it could really mess us up since we aren't fast.

Anyone know what times the corrals are (about?) If say you put 3hrs as finish and registered earlier than someone else with the same time would you possibly get in a faster one?

Somewhere I read someone who put 3.5 hrs last year was in the middle corral. I would think since technically we only have about 3.5 hrs to finish, I would think you would be in the last. I think everyone in the last corral has the same idea...get to the front of the last corral, we all have the same fear. Everyone can't be up front. Can you tell I am worried?

I feel exactly like you and have the same questions and concerns! Thanks for posting and I hope others have advice and comments for us! popcorn::

So would you say the crowds were bigger on Friday or Sat? Yes, the extra runners might make a big difference.

We were there around 5pm on Friday and it didn't seem crowded at all. Saturday was much more crowded but manageable; we waited in lines of 5 or 6 people at the specialty running clothes booths and the line at the race merchandise area was pretty long but went quickly. A lot of sizes of clothing was sold out by Saturday at noon.

Hope that helps.

I have a question for everyone - Right now I am flying in on Saturday, landing around 1pm. I can change my flight to land around 10am, but between the new cost and the change fee, it will cost me $225.

My main concern is the Expo. I understand everything is pretty picked over by Saturday. Would anyone be willing to pay $225 for the chance to get to the Expo approximately 3 hours earlier?

I wouldn't. That's a lot of money just to have a chance to buy a t-shirt or something. I'm also arriving on Saturday afternoon and I figure if I'm meant to buy something, it will still be there. If not, oh well.

definitely wouldn't change a flight to go to the expo any earlier. i'm sure disney is very well aware of the marketing potential with the princess theme and will have plenty of merch....i mean has disney ever failed by missing an opportunity to take more $ from us :lmao: besides there's also a merch booth at the finish line, and disney needs to order enough to account for that booth too. just make sure you have everything you need for your race in your suitcase - if there is a sudden cold snap (aka marathon weekend), i would imagine gloves, hats, long sleeved shirts, etc snap up super fast.

We got there around noon on Saturday last year and some WDW Princess tshirt were sold out-we are going Friday this year, but have to as my DD is running the 5K on Sat.

Still hoping someone reads post #1120 and answers Brook's questions for a few of us popcorn::...,
but I also would like to know if it is necessary to rush to the expo on Friday evening if all we really want to do is check in for the marathon? We will be driving in on Friday from Maryland and I just don't want to panic if we don't get there in time. Is it possible to get to the Expo on Saturday afternoon and just get checked in without much problem? We were going to do a park on Saturday morning.

$225 is definitely a lot of money for me, too. I just got my tax refund, so I do have a little to play with.

But, you guys are right, the chance to purchase some extra merch is definitely not worth the extra money. I guess I just needed someone to talk me down. I was caught up in the moment!

I know it seems like everyone will be trying to get to the front of the last corral, but honestly that just doesn't occur to everyone. I told my friend (a 16 min miler) that we would line up as soon as the corrals open and she had no idea why I was suggesting that. So, I think if you line up early you will be towards the front, maybe not at the rope, but right up there.

You have to remember that if you are at that 16 min mile pace, you will not be swept. A 15 min mile give you plenty of cushion in case you need to go to the bathroom or whatever. Also, as someone posted on another thread here (I think it was called "sweepers" or something like that) you will be given every opportunity to speed up. You will know if you are in danger of being swept and, hopefully, will be able to find a little burst of speed to get you to the next checkpoint in time.

I still worry about being swept even though I've completed 7 half marathons. :rotfl:

dislvr74, thanks!! I am terrified of being swept. I have only done a few, non-timed 5Ks, and have never really done anything approaching distance like this. Plus I am at least 45 lbs overweight and just started training at the beginning of Jan.

I was able to do 10 miles this weekend at a 13.4 mph pace, but that was on the treadmill.

Hello, ladies! I started at C25K last week, with my dream being the Princess 1/2 in 2011. I read this whole thread over the weekend, and I just wanted to let you all know I am cheering for you. You can do it! I can't wait to read about your success. I look forward to having such a wonderful support group for the 2011 race. Have fun!

disney_mommy - That seems an awful lot. I don't think 3 hours Sat would make a big difference. Friday, yes. Saturday, no.

Leah - There's a bus from WWoS to MGM. You coudl boat/walk to Epcot from there.

treehuggnmomma - DIdn't see this answered. The expo is free to all.

I don't rememebr the split, but the earlier you get there, the better your chance of being up front. They should let you knwo when teh corrals open in your packet from teh expo. Get there when they open and you shoudl be fine. (This means getting to the parking lot at least 15 to 20 min before teh corrals open. If you are bussing, get on the bus an hour before corrals open)

Oh, I do know that I was in teh first corral with a 2:30. :o However, I don't think crowdding was half as bad as marathon. Just not as many racers.

Good Morning, Princess Racers!

I just wanted to stop by with a friendly invitation:

In spite of this weeks' question being all about ice cream, things are already starting to warm up at the W.I.S.H.-Wide Monday Mixer!

What is the Best Ice Cream Treat on WDW Property? Include a picture or a story, if you have one!

Come and join us - it's lots of fun! (plus, I'm about to bust out the beverages!) See you at the Mixer!

I was also in the first corral last year with a "projected" 2:42 finish using Proof of Time from a 10K here in Boston. However, I was moved to the first corral from what I think was the last - it was "c"- at the Expo when I provided that documerntation. Even though I'd stated 2:40 in my registration originally. I expect there will be more than 3 corrals this year because of the number of runners and I'd also think 2:45 won't get me in the first corral. I guess we won't know until we get there but those of you on the 15-16/mile mark...you can do this! :goodvibes Enjoy these last weeks - remember to test out your carbs for during the race!!

ps: I didn't notice a lot of people wiggling up to the front; I'd agree with those who say get there early and find your spot.

:lmao: You are going to be fine if you can maintain that pace for 10 miles! Seriously, you have nothing to worry about. Even if you slow down a bit outside, you are going to be well ahead of the sweepers. I'm actually slower on a treadmill, but I think I'm weird, so you probably do need to count on being a little slower outside.

Hey Caitsmama, are you saving the 2nd post area for a WiSH Meet information. I have read back a bit to see if any talk about a meet has been done.
I am trying to get my plans set for the days I am there.

-Tracy

Hi Tracy, I can add the meet info in the second post - we are meeting like we did last year 5pm at POR food court. :)
