Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I posted a couple of weeks ago about how my thinking has changed from "there is no way I can finish this race" to "it will be hard, but I can do it." Since then, I have been on a couple of 10 mile runs and now I know I can do it and am excited. I can't believe how far I have come, last year at this time I was 60 lbs. heavier, my life is so different now.

So back to my question - I know that the final mile or so for me is going to be very emotional. I can pretty much guarantee that I will be bawling like a baby when I finish. So is this normal or are people going to laugh at me? I actually won't care, just wondering if others would be doing the same thing.

You definately won't be the only emotional one! I am running this race in honor of one friend who passed away from Lukemia and another who is currently fighting Lymphoma (race benefits the Lukemia and Lymphoma society) so I know I'll be a mess.. not to mention the fact that I have never run before in my life until Oct and have been training pretty much not stop for this event since I started... so it's emotional for sure...

I can't believe I am doing THIS. I walked my 7 1/4 miles on the weekend....it was very empowering. I bought a fule belt and some cliff blocks today oh an new shoes!! I didn't think mine were to bad but the girl flipped them over and showed me how they had NO treds left...oops.

I am really worried about time. I am walking 16:25 minutes on most of my 7 miles of my long walk. I do have street lights though.

I hope everyone's training is going well.

Anyone know about sports complex....I will be bringing a 3 and 5 year old with me to pick up my race package...will I have to pay for them to get it?

I will likely be bawling with you so bring on the tissues! I finished my first bike race last summer and pretty much bawled for the last 1/2 mile of it. It came out of the blue and totally freaked me out, but it was what I needed to do. Embrace all of the work you put into this and savor the moment however you want. Remember - its your race!

Less than 6 weeks folks... can't wait.

WOW...reading the past few posts puts me right back to a year ago at this time as I was preparing for my first race ever...the nerves, the emotions, the triumphs and the set-backs. I can attest to the fact that you can all do this and, although I didn't cry at the finish line, I got very teary entering MK and then bawled when I met up with my 4 girlfriends at the end--one who came from TN just to cheer me on. It is amazing and I'm so excited to do it again!!

I did a solid walk/run last year although I ran too much the first 5 miles and walked a lot of the last 3. THe advice given several times to stay hydrated and figure out what your body needs before the race and not that day is key. In the last few weeks before the race, I tried to get up and run first thing (no, not at 4am!!) and experimented with food. I planned to eat a peanut butter sandwich as that seemed to work well in training. At 5am (remember the race was at 7 last year because of time change---yes, still felt like 6!) on race day, I got about 1/2 a sandwich down. I wish I'd brought the other half to eat at 6:15 though and I will this year. During my training, I was eating a half hour before and didn't think through getting to Epcot almost 2 hours before race time.

I'm trying to wean myself off morning coffee this month...like waiting until after I exercise. Last year I ate Sports Beans during the race and will do that again this year. I may do the caffeine ones early on though to counteract not having coffee. I think it would be hard to eat them if you were not taking walk breaks though.

Definitely plan to put something besides water in your mouth for re-fuel every hour. I used Sports Beans but know why those on the marathon board were raving about the Twizzlers...you have to give yourself energy!

THose are just a few thoughts for now. All I can say again is ENJOY the training and enjoy the race. We are at Disney because we love it; take in every piece of it!! I was with a friend while running the MK part and she pointed out the ducks in the castle moat and I'm so glad she did; just taking in everything. Every moment is magical :)

Train well and be safe!

Just a reminder...the sports drink offered during the race is Powerade (coke product). You may want to train using that. I don't care for powerade so I go for the water, others will carry their drink of choice.

First - I am so thrilled for you! That is awesome to have the "I know I can" feeling, especially when you doubted yourself at first! Second, IU bowled after my first marathon. A volunteer will likely as if you're ok, bu tall teh participants will appreciate why you are doing it. But you know what? You won't care what anyone thinks!

Well, I can tell you I was crying like a complete idiot after the Tower of Terror 13K and that was only 8 miles! I was by myself too, so it wasn't even like the kind of tears you can shed while hugging someone in shared emotion. I just had to sit down (while trying not to throw up), put my head in my hands and just get it over with. I called my husband right then and there bawling and he said "are you actually crying?". Well DUH!! I had only been running for about 5 months then and to me this was HUGE. Not to mention flying down there & doing the whole adventure alone. It was the most unbelievable thing.

Soooo, I'm betting that there will be at least one other tearful Princess! Better pack the water-proof mascara!

Well this is just great. I'm welling up like a spring already just reading some of these posts!

Insofar as energy, I used 5 hour energy before the TOT, which started @ a whopping 10:30pm. I'm usually in bed by that time! I took it around 8:30 & chased it with a PB&J (which came highly recommended from a marathoner friend). I felt great up until the last Poweraide stop @ mile 7. Maybe I drank too fast or something, but I almost tossed my PB&J behind "Lights, Camera, Action". UGH.

Did a 9 mile this week and walked through chewing on the Cliff Bar nugget thingies. They definitely seemed to help, but I wouldn't recommend them unless you're going to walk while eating them.

Good luck to all you gals for this week's training!!

Anyone see anything about WISH gatherings for Princess weekend?

Boy, I am sore today! Especially on the ball of my foot--close to my toes. Anyone else ever experience this? I am hoping it's nothing that won't heel its self in a day or two.

I had this problem repeatedly while training for the TOT 13K last October. It almost was the end of my training. I read some threads, got some advice, and tried the following:

1)Pull out the insert that comes in your shoes.
2)Insert "ball of foot" gel pads. You can get these just about anywhere.
3)Then, on TOP of those, put in custom inserts. I used a $29 pair from Dicks that you put in the oven, immediately put in your shoe, then step into them.

This absolutely did the trick. Haven't had a problem since!

Good luck!

Who wants to help me click the "Pay Now" button?

I'm thinking about going on my own (at least without DBF, but DM and family would be going). I've had a room at BLT booked since I joined DVC and I have an AP so I just need a flight and registration.

I feel guilty about going without DBF though!

So far I haven't had sore feet at all, even with 9 miles. But I am just walking the distance, running only on the treadmill and only in intervals. The most I have done so far is about 3.5.

I do my distance walk/runs with a fitness instructor at Duke, and she recommended getting new shoes about 3 weeks before the race. I found my exact pair on ebay for cheap (they are discontinued now, about a year old), so I may get them and break them in.

Morning! With the help of Carrie, i believe the list is complete now on the first post.. please check to see if you are on there, and if not, please post and let me know.. if you want your resort listed, please post also! Thanks!

Again, for those who are just joining us, we are doing a WISH get together/meet on Sat. night at Port Orleans Riverside food court, there is a make your own pasta bar there, it's about $10 and a great deal! We will be meeting about 5pm.. great time to chat and take pics and get to know your fellow WISHER's/Racers!!

Great job Stacy and Carrie.
There is alot of girls running the half!
Got my miles in today-hope training is going well for everyone.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:Stacy? I missed one. Next time you do an update, could you please add wtpclc (Carrie) to the list? :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Thank you, Stacy and Carrie for putting together the roster list. I'm sure that was time consuming considering the number of princesses here!

I do have a question for all you veterans out there--I was just reading a TR from the 1/2 last month that prompted this question--At what point (or mile) are you safe from being swept, or is there such a thing?

I don't know how to say this, but.....I'm in for the 5K, too. They announced the Frog theme and, well, apparetly I am a sucker for frogs. :bounce: It will be strictly easy jog and pictures for me, since I'm doing the half the next day as well - I need someone to hold me to that, OK?

From past races, if you get into Epcot ~ mmile 12, they will let you keep going as long as you are not hurt (appear dehydrated/out of it) and do not stop.
