Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I didn't realize until today that the Princess races weekend lined up with our already planned Disney trip. My husband and I have been tossing around the idea of doing one of these for a while now, so what better time to try, right? We're going to do the 5K. Neither of us have ever done anything like this before. I'm really excited and a little bit nervous too!

Welcome! You will love all the encouragement found on this thread. I ran the 5K last year and it was so much fun--I had to try the half this year! Running through Epcot was a dream!

Congrats! I did my first 6 miler this weekend too! Feels good huh?

Me too--but I am beat! I should be in bed but I am up goofing around on the Dis! Congrats on your long run!

There will be a Chear Squad for the Princess Half. Packages just went on-sale today (check under the 'Travel Details' and 'More Magic' tab on our website). And new for this year we added a reserved viewing area at Cinderella's Castle for Chear Squad gold members!

I'd love to hear more about the ChEAR Squad too. I'll have to check out the site and see what it's all about. If I remember, there is a pretty steep cost involved.

Does any one what park the 5K willl be in? or maybe someone has a map of the course?

Welcome! You will LOVE running through EPCOT! I will never look at the park the same way again. Last year's 5K was my first race and it will always be special. Enjoy! Make sure you take lots of pictures and enjoy every minute!

To all you gals out there just starting to train or maybe need a little help increasing mileage, I strongly suggest checking out Jeff Galloway's walk/run program. I had been training since
Walk breaks are great for anyone, but especially those of us who are attempting a half for the first time. Your recovery time after a run is much faster, and giving yourself breaks every mile/mile and a half or so is mentally encouraging.
I also figure, aside from water and food breaks, I'll be stopping to take pictures with the princesses along the way, so those are more added breaks! For me this race isn't about time, it's about having fun and finishing!

I need to take a few walking breaks today on my long run. The walks certainly helped. Mentally, I beat myself up for having to stop but you are right, some times you just need to. By the end of the run, I was over feeling bad for myself and was just proud that I finished! I am sure that sentiment will be even more profound come race day!

I just love all the encouragement on this thread!

Hi
Just wanted to say hello.
My name is Christina and I'm participating in the 5K run.

So I have decided to run a ½ marathon this juni, and have started training 2 weeks ago. I was very pleased to find out that I can run 5 km without stopping. Tomorrow I'm planning on running 8 km.

Thanks
Christina

Welcome Christine! Your English is very good and until I looked to see where you were from, I would have never guessed English wasn't your first language! Good luck with your training!!

My husband and I are doing the 5K too! If you don't mind me asking, what is your first language? Your English seems very good. :)

My first language is Danish, but not many people know this langauge.

I ended up running 9,2 km today, so I'm very happy:cool1:.

I will definitely be looking into doing the 5 k at Castaway Cay

Christina

Is there anything comparable, or viewing areas, for the Royal Family 5K? Our DD (age 15) will be with us, but not participating in the 5K. Trying to figure out the best place for her to wait/watch. Thanks!

No, and you can not watch inside Epcot either.
You can only see the start / finish in the Epcot parking lot.

Thanks for the info! Then I guess we will have her wait at the finish. Are there bleachers, or an area set aside for spectators? Just want to make sure we can find her after the race. :flower3:

Boy, I am sore today! Especially on the ball of my foot--close to my toes. Anyone else ever experience this? I am hoping it's nothing that won't heel its self in a day or two.

I second the soreness!! My hips has never felt pain like this. I was hoping to go for a massage today to see if that would that would help but the kids came down with a stomach bug....no chance of me getting out...good thing it is rest day.

My foot really hurt on the side of my heel. I am almost due for new shoes I am hoping that helps.

I just finished my 5 miles for today.... in the rain. Actually, it was during a tornado watch. I started my run inside on the treadmill at our apartment complex but there was no air conditioning and it was about 82 degrees. I tried everything so that I wouldn't have to run outside. I opened the windows, opened the doors. It finally became apparent that I would have to head outside. I stopped by my apartment to let my hubby know that I would be running outside. He laughed and said I was the color of a tomato. There was a break in the rain but it was really wet outside. I decided that no matter what... I would not quit. I was getting this run finished. I already missed two short runs earlier in the week with a blister. Well, I finished and I actually had my fastest time since I've started training. It's still slow at 13:50 a mile but it will get the job done if I can maintain it and it's better if I can improve on it. Yes, it rained. Yes, it was windy. At one point I started running on the sidewalks of the outdoor mall-- just in case it got so bad that I had to jump inside a store for safety. But, most importantly... I finished. And, that's all that matters to me at this point!!!

I hope everyone had a great week and great running or walking!! Keep up the great work!!

Has anyone done this, do you suggest the gold package, do you need a park ticket to view the runners go through the castle? Looks like I may be interested in this, any of your family members doing this too?

I am full of questions.

How easy is it for family members to get to Epcot to see the finish? How easy is it to get a cab?

I am trying to decide where to stay, I have a 3 and 5 year old coming too and we are deciding between Contemporary or BW. Does anyone know if you can get to the start of the marathon by using the Showcase Entrance by the BWI or BC, YC? Any suggestions on which resort is better, neither are a host hotel!

Finally, when do buses start for family members to come?

Is there anyway to get the packet pickup for the 5k if we don't get in by 7pm on Friday? I'm doing both races and have my son signed up for the 3 year old toddler dash, but I'm worried if we get delayed at all on Friday coming in that I will miss the packet pick up and won't be able to do the 5k.

We are doing the 5K Saturday -- I know the International Showcase entrance is not open for that; otherwise we would have stayed at the Swan.

:cool1::cool1: Thanks to you wonderful people on here I signed up for the half today:banana::banana: I'm so excited and nervous. Now to figure out all the little details,, like where can DH watch for me... I do have a question for anyone that has bought the discounted park tickets... do you know if they are upgradeable? for example.. if we buy the 7day park hopper tickets can we upgrade them to Annual Passes. Does anybody know if we will have trouble doing this?

Great job to everyone that hit some AWESOME miles this weekend... you guys are so inspirational:worship: I did my 2 miler last night.. sad that it's my farthest distance yet, but I had fun... really ended up doing 2.5 miles at a 12:31 mile per minute pace... pretty impressive for me. This week I start really adding the miles with a 4 mile run on Saturday. I'm excited to start adding mileage, just hope this doesn't end up adding the miles too fast, i'm basically increasing my long runs by 1 mile each week... gotta do what I gotta do :yay:

Have a great week everyone!:cheer2:

Do not know about the cabs or if any family busses... but would say CR since you will run past CR and family can monorail to the race. EPCOT world Showcase will not be open, I had been hoping the same and asked on a different board a while back.

We signed up for the ChEAR package with the bleacher seats at the finish and the viewing area at MK since we DH will have DD2 and DS6.

Good luck!

You do not need a park ticket to watch the runners from Main St or chear ticket.
You will be asked to leave the park at 8am and you can re enter when the park opens at 9 with a ticket.

HI Everyone -

It is 1am here in lovely NJ and I just got off my TM, long story short I ran the whole 8 miles :banana::banana: ------ OMG I never thought in my wildest dreams I could do it. :rotfl::rotfl:

I kept my pace easy without speed being an issue, just to make sure I could do it!!!!

However, it was not without some drama! UGH :confused3 My wonderful DH bought me a TM so I could train in the comforts of our home. Well at 6 miles I was dripping, I mean dripping and I felt like I was going to die - there was no air comming in the window - SO .......... I took off my shirt and hung it (big mistake, I think) on the arm of the treadmill.

I think the mounds of sweat dripping onto my NEW TM - made it TURN OFF:scared1: YES it turned OFF!!!!! I was at 7.69 miles :scared1::scared1: I wanted to scream!! Finally after 2-3 minutes my TM was working again, a bit SLOW but still moving!!!

So BOTTOM line, I finished my ***8MILES*** in 1 hour and 42 minutes!!!:banana:

I will be 6 months post op on the 29th, and every time I do these LR I am just amazed that last year I stopped running because I was in so much pain --- I swore I would never be able to run again.............and now look :cloud9:

Well, off to bed - I have to teach tomorrow at the college (5 hours of sleep here I come)

Swim-mom Fantastic news. Congratulations.

Your Dr. is going to be blown away next time he sees you!!!!!

Since my DH will be by himself on race day, I signed him up for the Gold package. The registration didn't say anything about needing a park ticket, so I'm assuming not.
