Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

My answers..

Should we take the bus from the resort or drive? Definately take the bus if you are staying at a resort that has the event transportation!

How are the busses when the race is over? I had no problems the whole weekend!
Is the special ticket night really necessary? NO!! I went to the party last year, and it (to me anyway) was a waste!! It was switched from the MK to DHS, and i was bummed, We got goodie bags that had the Pirate and Princess party logo on them, :confused3 with junky treasures in them - think ring pops. You would be just as well going to a park that night with EMH.

I'd rather not pay $100 more for park entry, when I already have tickets for the other days we will be there. We've done the Mickey's Halloween party - is it like that? AGain, NO!! It is way less than the Mickey halloween/or christmas party!! I honestly don't see how we got our money worth - except riding toy story with no line.. :rolleyes1 other than that, not worth the $$ unless they REALLY revamp it!

I know they put you in starting groups, and I guess my group will be last since we are walking, right? They put you in "corrals" that go by the time you listed on your entry of how long it would take you to finish - if you put walker, yes, you will probably be in the last corral, which is ok.

I'm sure I'll have more questions....
Sure.. that's why we are here!! Welcome!!

for those of you who ran this last year - do you know how the crowds compare to the half in jan? i walked the half in jan for two years in a row, but training to run the princess in march and i'm nervous that it will be head-to-head the entire course

I only did the Princess, but it had a LOT less people running than the Donald.
The Donald has about 13,000 runners and the Princess about 7,000.

*I just looked it up, and the Donald had 12,451 people who Finished, and the Princess had 6,332.*

So I registered a while back and started training... But I am wondering, does Disney send you any information after you register or do you have to get everything at the expo? I guess I don't really feel like I'm registered, because I don't have anything official...

You will get info via the ""Princess newsleter" and a link to print your waiver which you need to bring to the expo, but everything you really need will be given to you at the expo.

Caitsmama- that is fine if you give your sister my screen name. It'd be nice to talk to a fellow bride! Sorry for the delay....I've been away from the boards for a bit.

Thanks :goodvibes

Thank you! Is the newsletter something I should have already gotten? Or does it come sooner to the race?

The newsletter will come later.. probably a couple months before the race.. Then as the race gets closer, you will get them (newsletters) more frequently.

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow princesses and join in on the discussions. DH and I booked our hotel for the race and hopefully this weekend I'll get registered (gotta wait for payday :rolleyes1) I started re-training this morning... I started following John Bingham's marathon training last year in anticipation of running the 2009 Princess half as my first ever half, then had a "surprise" you're pregnant and stopped my training since I knew I couldn't run the race 8 months prego :goodvibes and my Dr advised me to take it light... so now (3 months after baby) I'm ready to begin training again. I'm starting with John's Walk/Run the half, then I'm going to hopefully move up to the Run/Walk training routine so that I can complete the half mostly running... at least that's my goal:rolleyes1 but man, just this morning kicked my but :scared: and made me realize how far I have to go. Anyone have any tips for working out with young ones at home? I've tried running at night, but that doesn't work well for me.. I'm a morning runner, so right now it's hard to get time to run every morning as DH leaves for work at 4am and my nanny doesn't get here until 7-9 depending on the day. Right now i'm running at 7 when she gets here 2 days a week, have to figure out what to do for my 3rd short run day... weekends aren't too bad, DH can watch the baby while I go for a long run.

Thanks guys!!:woohoo:

I printed out the half marathon course and wondering why we don't go through the MK? :confused3

Hi, just wondering where you found the princess 1/2 course map? As far as i can see, it's not on their site... this last princess 1/2, we DID go thru the MK/castle, so, mabye it would help if you posted the link to the map and who has it posted? :confused3

sailors wfe, welcome!! YEs, i would imagine a baby would throw off your training a bit. LOL I too, had the same problem with when to run, even though my dd is older -- i still don't like leaving her alone upstairs while i am in the basement with my mp3 in my ears.. (my dd is 8 1/2 now, so i will do that occassionally - for say a 1/2 hr or so or less), I use to get up early, but then i hated running early - since like yours, my dh leaves about 5am, and i would have to get up WAAAY to early to eat (can't run on empty stomach) and digest and then run... forget that!! LOL
So , i basically switched my schedule to running at night. DH is home at supper time, so i usally workout after that - there were nights when i am pooped but get on the TM at 8pm, to get the workout in..
Sometimes it's hard - but the end result is worth it, even if it means rearranging your schedule. :) Good luck!

Add me to the 2010 Princess 1/2 marathon running roster. I registered for this race today. I've only run Disneyland before so, I'm excited to run the World. I am planning to go for the coast to coast in 2010. I have not flown in 11 years :rolleyes1 so this is a huge step for me to actually fly again. This thread has been helpful in answering a lot of questions I've had prior to registering. Thanks for all the useful info.

That map shows the original course. They changed it a few months before the race to mimic the WDW half in January.

As megan said - to me,i don't know if that is a NEW course, or if it was a pic of the OLD first course that was scheduled -- last year, that was the course we were SUPPOSED to run - but as Megan said, they switched it - to go thru the MK/castle, similar to the Jan. half course.
I am not sure why that link takes you to that pic/route - mabye Robert (that sites owner) will come on and clarify.
I don't belong to that site so i can't help other than say that he will probably check in here at some point and answer you..

But, to me, that looks like last years old (first draft if you will) course. UNLESS they decided to change it again.. But, i would wait til they post in on the offical Disney princess 1/2 site to be sure.

Hey girls! I have not registered yet, but I did order the MFM book and started my training for the half. I plan to run but we shall see! I ran the 5K last year and this time last year--that was a pipe dream. This is going to be a challenge for me. I am running with my best friend and sister, Ashley! I have told her about this thread and I hope she makes it over here to chat.

Now I know the MFM book says to read the entire book before starting to train but I can't help myself. I looked in the back at the Run a Half Marathon training program and Week 1, Monday says to Run-Moderate 30 mins. Now, Tuesday says Cross Training 30 mins. Does that mean I don't run that day? Only run 3 days a week? Since I am starting my training early, should I just do each week twice?

Thanks for helping out. I am really excited for this!

Hi, yes, that's exactly what it means.. if it says cross train, then you don't run that day -- you don't want to overdue it! Doing each week 2x i am sure wouldn't hurt -- until mabye you get to the long days -- but then again, i am not a full runner - so i can't really help there.
I plan on starting my 14 week plan right after Thanksgiving, for now, i am just trying to keep active every week and logging at least 10 miles a week - walk/run, until i start my training.
