Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Does anyone know if you get a special pass for the race transportation?

We were thinking of staying at SOG. Could we walk over to the Poly and use race transportation?

I really, really didn't think the rooms would be so expensive. I was in denial.

About driving...we did NOT forget to set our clocks; had three cell phone alarms and wake up call-we didn't need any of them as we were up and ready. We got there early and just drove in and parked no waiting. There was quite a line of traffic coming in as we waited at the start line. I think we left CSR around 5 and it only took about 5 min. to drive over.

Sure, if you are staying at a hotel like the GF or whatever, and you can get to the Poly, (or any of the other host hotels) then you can take the transportation from there to the stuff. However, bear in mind, that last year, the LAST bus in the a.m. was at 5:15 a.m. , so IF you are planning to get from another hotel to a host hotel, plan accordingly. ;) I personally wouldn't be awake enough to already start walking over to the Poly from SOG at about 4:45 a.m. LOL But, that's just me. Also don't forget, you LOSE an hour of sleep the night before ;) for daylight savings time.

I just booked my hotel, got the discount and we are staying at POR. It's actually gonna be a long vaca for us, as my sis offically booked her Disney wedding for Friday March 12, 2010! So, it will be a 9night/10 day vaca for us.

I am going thru the thread now, and will be updating the front page with info and names and the hotel info. If you have DEFINATELY registered, please lmk your hotel when you book. That way if someone wants to share transportation (especially for those staying off site or in a non-host hotel) it will be easier to see who is staying where. :)

I will also be planning a pre-race meet & greet. I think what we did last year worked fine, and would like to just continue with that. We did a pasta dinner last year at the POR food court - they have a "make your own pasta" bar there.. excellent, and was only about $10 for the meal. More info on that later!

They're out!!!

Disney's All-Star Sports Resort - $ 110 per night

• Disney's All-Star Movies Resort - $ 110 per night

• Disney's All-Star Music Resort - $ 110 per night

• Disney's Port Orleans Riverside Resort - $ 160 per night

• Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort - $ 160 per night

• Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort - $ 312 per night

• Disney's Old Key West Resort - $ 312 per night

• Disney's Polynesian Resort - $ 412 per night

Seriously??? No, really...they want how much for the All-Stars???

Dang...guess this is why we bought DVC.

I'm with Mel on this one! Yikes! Thank goodness for DVC. Not sure where we will be staying yet, but we are going to try for Bay Lake Towers (have to wait for 7-month window). Staying in a 2-BR will be:

me (Erika, 3 DisneyKids)
Kat (HockeyKat)
Liz (SeptemberGirl)
Paula (GoofyFan12)
Amy (amykab)
Nancy (AKASnowWhite)
Lisa (PrincessRunner, maybe)

If not Bay Lake Towers, then AKV, Concierge! :cool1:

The clocks change on march 14th 2010 ....... so we are ok for this race, as I foung the time change a nightmere!!!!!

I am also planning to register for the princess half. Dh and I are planning to be a team. This will be my first half marathon and I am very excited. We are hoping to book one of the values, but we will more then likely drive ourselves.

I started running last week and looking forward to the challenges that will come my way.

Hey Everyone:

We ran the Half last year but I can't remember...do we have to be registered for the race before we can book the rooms? We'd like to book the rooms to get that over with but we're still "saving" our entry fee. We are also doing this in conjunction with our wedding! We're getting married March 8th, 2010!! Yay! :goodvibes

Hi!! I remember you! LOL

No, you do NOT have to be registered first. You can book your room without being registered, they don't ask you for any reg. info.

And congrats on the WDW wedding, my sis is also getting married after the race!! She is getting married on 3/12 at the WP at the GF!! Can i maybe pm you her username here so you can chat?? I am sure she would love to talk to another bride that week! :)

Signing on! This is my big goal for myself, turning 39 this year... Never done something like this.... Have APs this year, seems like the time is right!

Looking forward to more info! :goodvibes

I just wanted to join in on this awesome group as well. This will be my first "big" race, and I'm very excited. I have a LOT of training to do and a long way to go though. I plan on starting with the C25K and going from there. I haven't registered just yet, and will probably wait another month or so before I do. We just joined DVC, so we're planning on staying at SSR for the weekend of the race. I hope to get to meet some of y'all!

we just joined dvc too and it is my first race. The ladies on here suggested marathoning for mortals and I loved the book. We booked saratoga springs but we are thinking about switching to akv at 7 months?? not sure. Other than busses I do n't know if there are any marathon meet and greets or anything offereed at the "marathon" hotels?

Hi and welcome to the group!!! Yes, we WILL be having a DIS meet and greet!! Probably for the Sat. night supper - and it will be at the Port Orleans Riverside Food Court - they have a GREAT make your own pasta bar -- everyone just comes and orders what they want - very reasonable too, my dinner last year was about $10. And a ton of food!! Then we took some pics, chatted, and parted ways to get to bed. :)
We will definately be doing that again!

A dis meet and greet sounds great!!!! I am racing solo but we have turned it into a family trip. I will make sure not to make any adrs for Saturday or atleast not for me:laughing: I don't think I have had a meal without the kids in a long time.

How awesome that you're a new DVC'er, too! Congrats! It's an awesome feeling isn't it? The Princess weekend will be our first weekend home. SSR is our home resort, but we are staying at BWV this September. I have seen the Marathoning for Mortals booked mentioned quite a bit on here. I think I'm going to give it a try once I get the C25K out of the way. I'm going to have to do this in baby steps. Let's just hope I get there!

The DIS meet sounds awesome, especially with the Pasta bar. We've never been to Port Orleans, so that would be a great opportunity to check it out.
Thanks for organizing this for everyone...you rock!:thumbsup2

I'm hoping to do this for my 39th this year too. Hopefully I'll be able to financially wangle the trip. I can't wait.

Congrats on starting c25k. I'm new to it myself (just started week 7 today!). This will be my first "big race" too.

Just wanted to join this thread, too:goodvibes I will be walking the Princess Half in 2010....My first:banana:

I want to join in too! My girlfriend and I signed up with our hubbies. Our first marathon altogether. I did March of Dimes back when I was 20 and that was 26 miles. That was 30 years ago! DH and I did a Voluntears marathon (maybe 8 miles?) when I was a Disney Store cm.

We are very excited for our first Walt Disney World marathon, but we will definitely be walking (well, I am anyway). I've been walking 3 miles or so every day since college, so hopefully I'll be okay if I can keep up my pace for 13 :scared:.

We're thinking of staying at POFQ after driving down from MD. Then switching to a DVC for several nights. We've never stayed at POFQ, but we're still debating whether to stay at one of the values to save a little money. Don't want to use my DVC points for the weekend. Also, it sounds like it will be convenient for the Dis meet!

This will be DH and my second trip to Disney w/o kids - the first was this past May when we were in town for one of our son's college graduation. This will be the first time we have "treated" another couple to share our DVC with us - we all graduated high school together!

Anyhoo, I have a couple of questions for those who have done this:

Should we take the bus from the resort or drive? How are the busses when the race is over?
Is the special ticket night really necessary? I'd rather not pay $100 more for park entry, when I already have tickets for the other days we will be there. We've done the Mickey's Halloween party - is it like that?
I know they put you in starting groups, and I guess my group will be last since we are walking, right?

I'm sure I'll have more questions....
