Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

Good-bye Ashley.

I think they're pushing these dancers too hard. What a shame.

IMO they're pushing some of the dancers too hard. Others get a pass out of dancing in the opening #, which they hoped to hide by dressing him up & letting him push the host out on stage at the end.

Have I completely lost it, or was Nigel basically telling Billy to tone down that dancing stuff w/ technique so he could razzle dazzle the audience like Mr. Cellophane? Then he turned around & complimented Jose, telling him he didn't think they'd ever seen him perform his breakin' so fast????

Excuse me, Mr. Lythgoe, have you ever actually watched Dominic perform? Do you remember Legacy? Heck, go back in the way back time machine & take a look at Hok's work. Getting a better look at Jose's solo revealed the same thing I noticed when he performed w/ Dominic in his "randomly drawn all star #" -- he's slow & weak in his own style.

I am completely disgusted to watch as they ram a non-dancer down our throats -- all the while ripping into dedicated, well-trained dancers. Somehow the next time they advise a dancer to take ballet training or pursue formal training to hone their natural abilities, somebody's got to look into the camera and ask, why?

Couldn't agree more. I, personally, don't think there is anyone this season that compares to Alex.

I agree. To have 2 dancers injured in just as many weeks & not be able to continue is saying something.

I have to wonder if the choreographers are pushing the dancers so hard just to "show off" their own choreography.

Not only did I not care for the salsa number that Adechike & Anya did, I thought it was extremely difficult & too dangerous for dancers to learn in one week. I thought it was choppy because they were unable to perfect the difficult moves/tricks that were in the routine. The judges praised the choreographer though & she just ate it all up & was proud as a peacock. They didn't have enough time to practice it to make it look smooth.

I guess I'm just disappointed about Alex & while I still love watching, I'm not enjoying the dancers as much since he's been voted off. :guilty:

It's music to my ears to hear a studio owner express concern about injuries this way. Every spring we wind up w/ a flood of injuries among the sr. comp. girls at our studio. The general attitude is, just keep dancing. The icing on the cake this spring was when one needed major surgery due to a type of injury you don't necessarily associate w/ dance right away. She injured it before less severely, it supposedly healed -- although there was no break in dance to allow it, but whatever. Reinjury in April -- very severe. Completed competition season, seriously worsening the condition!!! Had surgery in late May, w/ dr's orders not to dance for 6 weeks. Nope, practicing in 2 weeks, full on recital in 3-1/2.

Was specifically told by doc, if you mess up what I just fixed, it's basically impossible to repair, you will be immobilized for a year-plus. Her spot in the recital was more important to her & her parents. I do not understand this thinking at all.

I completely agree about the salsa, there wasn't even any dancing really, it was all tricks. I thought that the judges weren't going to like it!

Didn't Nigel tell Alex last week that he is welcome to come back next season? Why didn't he say the same thing to Ashley?

THANK YOU! Yes he did and I wondered the same thing.

Btw, did anyone catch what exactly was Ashley's injury?

On Wednesday night they said that her ribs hurt and she had to go to the hospital during practice but I don't know if they said what her actual diagnosis is...:confused3

I didn't hear an actual diagnosis either, not that I remember anyway. He said that she would need to rest for at least 5-6 weeks.

They were never specific. It is a shame to see the great dancers gone because of injury. I know there were injuries in seasons past but I can't remember anyone leaving. (Although I am sure there were as I remember substitutes dancing)

This season has been such a let down after some amazing dancing. I too really miss Alex. What is interesting is how great of a dancer you can be - as all of the top 10 truly are great - but there is still someone that much better then you! And much of it is some sort of an 'it' factor that is hard to train or quantify. But even the average viewer can see it.

They didn't really say what her specific injury was. They said they were letting her go now so she could recover and be ready in time for the tour.

I've seen some statements that it's a broken rib. I'm wondering if it couldn't possibly be a hernia?

Whatever it is, I send her best wishes for a full recovery.

I'm only guessing on this but maybe since Ashley has the possibility of the tour and Alex is just out he would get the invite back and she wouldn't.

This is so true. There is always someone that will be just that much better than you!

That stage presence "it" factor is just so hard to teach - it almost can't be taught. You either have it or you don't & Alex had it!

So now Billy's hurt, too?! Good grief this is ridiculous!

I know, huh?! At the rate they are going, they won't ever have to vote someone off. Hopefully he will be able to dance tomorrow night, but the way it sounded about his knee, he won't be able to.

Lauren did an amazing job!!!

Now that Alex is gone :sad1:, my favorites are Kent and Lauren. I also enjoy watching Adechike. His leaps are amazing, and I just love his smile! :goodvibes

Can I just say that Mia really bothers me sometimes!
