SYTYCD Season 7 premiered last night. There is something new this year as only 10 dancers will be chosen for the final and they will be paired with 10 dancers from previous seasons. If anyone has the list, can they post it here (assuming it has been announced and is not a spoiler)?

I have the list somewhere but they have all been announced. The ones I remember off the top of my head are:
Twitch
Neil
Lauren
Comfort
Mark
Dominic
Allison
Pasha
Anya

I'm sure there are more but those are the only ones I remember without looking.

Can we make this the "OFFICIAL SEASON 7" thread?

I'm not sure I'm happy with the changes. 10 seems like such a small amount of dancers.

I'm hoping to see Billy Bell, Natalie Reid and Paula VanOppen return for auditions.

Other changes are that Mia will be a permanent judge and Mary will be a rotating judge and will choreograph. That leaves Mia only open to choreograph group numbers.

I don't really like the idea of pairing with an alumni. I think people are going to vote based on how well they like the returning person and not how well the partner dances.

I am happy Mary is not a permanent judge. Her shrieking went right thorugh me.

Last night focused more on the good dancers than the bad which I liked.

Will update the subject.

Wasn't Natalie in her last year of eligibility? Pauls may still be under contract, but I would expect to see BNilly back.

Mary didn't return as a judge so that they could use her as a choreographer this year. Looking forward to what she works up with the dancers.

I'm not sure how this season will go. I have been a big fan since Season 3 (HUGE Danny fan!) but I second the concern of how will it work out due to votes for all stars instead of the top 10. They have a few of my favorites coming back and I can see myself wanting to vote for Dominic again or Twitch or Neil. I will have to really concentrate on the new people......personally, I don't think this was a great idea. However I am glad they replaced Mary. Even if it is just for this season, it will be nice to get a break from her over-the-top screeching and that stupid Hot Tamale Train! I wasn't very excited about last season so hopefully this season will prove me wrong!

I'm not real thrilled a tthe format, either--I hope it's just a one-time thing, to switch stuff up a bit. But, we'll be watching, regardless.

I think that they will dance with different alumni each week. It seems like the alumni will be staying within their genres, so that each week the contestant will be paired with an alumni from the genre they select. Hopefully that will somewhat alleviate people just always voting for their favorite alumni. I'm mostly sad about the format because that means only 10 new dancers.

I'm a huge Danny fan too. I love powerful male contemporary dancers. (Brandon, Will, Jacob)

I can't believe I missed this!
Anyone know if they will repeat the premiere?
If not, I will just have to catch it next week. My favorite was Ryan from the first season. I caught him again on an episode of that MTV dance crew show a year or so ago; he is incredible IMHO. :)

They probably won't repeat the premiere.....you can check FOX's website and sometimes people upload stuff to youtube but it usually gets taken down pretty quickly. IMO I don't think you missed too much. They didn't show or really even talk about any of the alumni. It was just your standard tryouts episode and they will have plenty more of that. So far no stand out favorites for me. One BBoy that stated that he was better than Legacy.....don't see that happening although he did make it past choreo to Vegas. I didn't see the first season so I don't know Ryan but I did catch Dominic (AKA DTrix) and Hawk when they won ABDC with their crew Quest. He blows my mind so I am super excited to see him again!!

Some interesting talent last night....I haven't seen any real familiar faces yet.

I love some of the alumni coming back & will be happy to see them dance on my screen again.

That being said, I'm completely not on board with the change of only 10 dancers making it to the show. Matter of fact, I'm actually kind of pouting about it. I was hoping for the producers to redeem themselves to me after they completely botched last season.

I do hope to see Billy Bell. He was working a dance convention DD attended a few months back. Kept telling DD the guy she bought her hoodie from looked familiar, I thought SYTYCD, great dancer, but couldn't remember why he wasn't a finalist. About 45 min later the lightbulb went on -- it was Billy. She ended up taking a couple classes w/ him later that night & he assisted in a couple of her classes over the weekend. She says he's even more amazing in person.

did the blonde that Mia Michaels worked with get through the coreography to Vegas?

Yes.

Some great stories last night. The hearing impaired guy was (as Mia would say) Ama-zing.

For anyone that watches Glee, I believe I spotted Courtney dancing to the song that Quinn sang.

That is wonderful news!!! :rotfl: My DH and I always end up muting the TV when it's her turn to scream/talk. So annoying. Anyone specifically taking her place or are they going to rotate judges?

Yes, she got through.

Not happy about only 10 dancers in the final and being paired off with previous dancers. I'm looking forward to seeing them dance, but I enjoyed seeing the finalist paired off and growing together as a team.

I saw Courtney too! My mom thought I was nuts. There are a few former SYTYCDers that are Vocal Adrenaline members but they move so fast I have a hard time spotting them.

I knew from reading that Heather Morris (Brittany) was also on SYTYCD and I couldn't place her right away but when I heard she was the Heather from "Heather and Ben" I remembered. He was a good dancer but something about him rubbed me the wrong way. I think he came back and assisted Mia.

Ryan is also a part of Quest. I think Dominic and Hawk are awesome too. If you like them, I think that you will really like Ryan, too. ;)

I was happy to see Brian Gaynor back. I had this show taped on my DVR and rewound his performance twice. He is incredible. My DD and I were trying ( pretty unsuccessfully) to do his moves while we were watching.

I'm glad I haven't seen Mia yet this season (not a big fan of hers), but I suspect that won't last for long! :)

So what does everyone think of the top 11?

Alexie Agdeppa, 26, Rowland Heights, CA - Jazz
Lauren Froderman, 18, Phoenix, AZ - Contemporary Jazz
Ashley Galvan, 19, Burbank, CA - Contemporary
Ana 'Cristina' Santana, 24, San Diego, CA - Salsa
Melinda Sullivan, 22, Culver City, CA - Tap

Billy Bell, 20, Palm Beach, FL - Contemporary
Kent Boyd, 18, Wapakoneta, OH - Contemporary
Robert Roldan, 19, North Hollywood, CA - Contemporary
Jose Ruiz, 21, Miami, FL - Breaking
Adechike Torbert, 23, Queens, NY - Contemporary
Alex Wong, 23, Miami, FL - Ballet

Yes, I have a hard time keeping the dancers straight with a top 20 format, especially early on, but I'll take that any day over putting so many talented dancers through Vegas week only to cut them before the season even starts.

And if they were going to make an exception and have 6 guys, why not add another girl to even things out? I think they should have kept the last girl cut and given her a spot on the show too, that would mean Ryan Ramirez. Wasn't she the Mia Michaels protege? I'm surprised they didn't do that.

I'm reserving judgement on the alumni thing, but my initial reaction when they announced the new format was not a positive one. We'll see.

So anyone you think should have made the cut and didn't? Anyone in the final cast you don't care for? Do you have strong favorites yet? Etc, etc, etc. Where are all the SYTYCD fans?
