I'll be really bummed out if they close Evergreen - been going there since 1995 - they have some of the best beer in all Disney!

I made my reservation on a Saturday--did not receive confirmation until Tuesday. SoG reservations office is closed over the weekend, so don't worry, especially because this weekend includes the observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday on Monday--a federal holiday. I would bet that the reservations office will remain closed until Tuesday.

I got my confirmation on Sunday morning.:cool1: Now, have to cancel the one at Pop! Thank you! You helped relieve some stress ove the confirmation.

I have sent an e-mail to SOG checking on this and will post their answer as soon as I hear back.

KatRob, keep us posted on your response frolm SOG!! As others have mentioned, doesn't make a lot of sense...

Yes, the waiter told me they were closing. We also thought it was the best place for reasonably priced meals for the kids (and me).

AWESOME! Glad I could be of any "little" help. I am so excited that I finally get to vacation at SoG myself in August--they've always been sold out in the past!

Just got home last night, and wanted to warn anyone going in the immediate future...
They are doing MASSIVE renovations in the Magnolia section. You might want to ask at check in if your room is located close to the construction.
We were not told anything at check-in about the work, and woke up Friday morning at 8:30 to hammering and drilling in the room directly beneath us. It was 7 day a week, all day work.
My mom spent all day in the room 2 days with sick kids listening to the walls shake.
So I just wanted to warn anyone going soon to ask at check-in, and if possible, get another room!

Well the bug has officially bit me... Me and my wife LOVE Disney so much that we are going again. :cool1: We just got back in August and here we are going again. Of course the discounts that they gave the military this year on tickets, how could you pass them up. Looking forward to reading a lot on SOG. Hoping that it will be a great place to revisit over and over again.

Just wanted to subscribe as we have a July trip to SoG planned and would love to know the outcome of Evergreen's.

Just got off the phone with SOG operator. She confirmed that it will be closing. She said it will be combining with Manginos and that the menu will be available through Manginos. Just some heads up. I did not ask what they were doing with Evergreens, but it sounded like it was a permenant move.

well that bites.. we go to Evergreen's for the Bar/casual atmosphere, not necessarily for the food. will they reopen the bar that's over by Ticketing now?

we just like to kick back have a few glasses of wine before heading to bed at night. woudl hate to have to go all the way to Poly now....

ACK! That totally changes my request for room location. We like the pool, but specifically wanted Mill Pond because of Evergreens. Guess now the plan is for Magnolia since it is the quieter pool. We really liked Evergreens.

Seems odd that they would kill a poolside snack location. I would imagine they will be losing sales since people hanging out by the pool bought drinks and food. I don't think this was a smart move.

I wonder how this will effect Mangino's. I never really heard of too many people eating there. You suppose they are about to get rid of Mangino's? Also seems odd that they would mix the kitchens of a nice restaurant with that of fast food. How would they separate the atmosphere? If anything, wouldn't it have made more sense to combine Evergreens with Express Cafe?

:confused3 Why would they get rid of something that was consistent like Evergreens for a bigger workout facility? That doesn't make any sense to me, unless they are going to build like a health spa type thing...they did have that massage place near Evergreens...maybe they will expand that and add the gym, and take the gym in the main building and convert that to another place to eat? I don't know, i'm grasping at straws here...

I LOVED Evergreens! We ate there a lot when we were there in August...the fish and chips was quite yummy! (funny, we didn't eat the fish and chips in Epcot, but we did at SOG. LOL!)

I have read about 13 pages, and I have had information overload :scared:

I hate the new about Evergreens, as it seems the perfect place for me.

Ok some questions:
1. Do they allow you to decorate Windows and/or Doors? Of course not permanent.
2. Do they clean to rooms everyday?
3. I really don't have a preference on rooms, but is there something that I should request for my first time at SOG?
4. Do I pay for my room in advance (45 days) or when I arrive?
5. If I check in early and my room isn't ready, will the store my luggage?
6. If they do, will they deliver it to the room when it is ready or do I need to pick it back up when we come back?
7. Do they have re-fillable mugs like the WDW resorts? Or would you suggest purchasing sodas and water at AFFES?
8. Will AFFES have most of the common things that I would need or would you get them delivered via Gardengrocer? (Water, sodas, fresh veggies (to snack on), chips, etc...)

I am sure that I will have more questions, so please forgive me.

Thanks

I can answer some of your questions, but not all of them. Hopefully this info is helpful.

1.) I've never seen any decorated doors at SOG so I'm not sure if they allow it or not, but I've never seen it done.

2.) Yes, housekeeping will clean/service your room on a daily basis.

3.) Our first trip we did not make any request at SOG and got a room in the "new" section that was great. Every year after that we've requested a pool view, because we like being close to the pools (and can sacrifice having an older room for it). Room view is really up to you, just depends on what you want to be close to, but no rooms are bad.

4.) We've always paid for the room when we arrive, not in advance.

5.) I believe they will hold your luggage, we've always had a room ready when we arrived though, so maybe they'll have your room ready for you even if you are early.

6.) They should deliver your luggage to your room without a problem, never had them hold my luggage so I'm not sure but I don't think it'd be a problem at all.

7.) No SOG does not have refillable mugs, you can buy some items at the Aafes but I'd suggest bringing your own drinks or have them delivered from an outside source.

8.) I've never seen the Aafes have fresh veggies, or anything like that so if that's what you are looking for you may want to have someone deliver those things to you. They do have snack cakes, chips, some bottled drinks (juice, milk, soda, some beer, etc.), but anything beyond that you may need to get from off site.

The things Aafes carries might have changed since I was there last year, but I don't think it would change drastically.

Hope the "new Evergreens" keeps the $12.00 pitcher price.

Is there a kitchen near the ticket area, if families are looking for a place to eat after a day in the parks.

I've got to add something about question #6. They will deliver your bags when you return to the room and call them. When you leave your bags they give you a number to call when you want them delivered. That's the way they have always done it for us. I guess if you wanted to go by and pick up your own stuff, it wouldn't be a problem.

AFFES doesn't carry fresh veggies. The Express Cafe does have fresh fruit available. If that's not what you are looking for you may have to drive to Wal-Mart (or some grocery store) or have it delivered by some of the services in town.

There isn't a food court at SOG like the Disney Resorts so they don't have the refillables.

As to the question about a kitchen. No. After the parks you have Evergreens (for a few more days), the buffet, or Manginos. Microwaves are available in the laundry rooms for heating up only. Please don't try to "cook" in one of them.

I'm not going until November, hopefully they will be done. That is where we were located last time, and I requested it again this time. I will check before we leave and make sure nothing is going on.
What floor were you on? We were on the second. Maybe we'll be lucky, and they just needed to do some major repairs to one room. More lucky, they are doing some work during their quiet season. Bringing some friends that we will be sponsoring them, and want to show them how wonderful SOG was!

We were on the thrid floor, the work was being done on the second floor. They were working on the entire block of rooms from 201 down to the elevator.
I requested that area, as we stayed there last trip, and got to watch Wishes from our balcony.

I also noticed that the space next to Evergreens is a massage parlor, and there is a cabana next to the pool. (this is new since March). They even have a flyer in the lobby. So maybe they are closing Evergreen's to expand ther spa services? :confused3
Just seems like a shame. I liked ordering to-go and bringing it back to the room.

Hi, do you mind if I ask what your location was? I know nothing about SOG - but we are doing a family trip in Jan. 2010 - my oldest DS & DIL will be staying at SOG - I'd love to be able to tell him what to "request" so that they can see Wishes from the room. It will be his first time back to WDW since he was about 8 or so. I'd just like to make it as "special" for them as possible.

Thanks so much!!!
