Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

So..... based on information that's coming in, is it safe to say that the main pool will be closed in August? I know it's hard to predict but I'm thinking if that's the case, that just may be the deal breaker for us. I don't want to pay top money to stay at the Poly to be shuttled over to the GF to use the pool especially in the heat of August. I'm so torn on what to do :confused3

Oh MY!!! The new design is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Steve,

THANK YOU!! This is amazing! Even better than before and I didn't think that was possible!

Babs

Thanks Babs

I think you emailed me but when I replied it said it was undeliverable. I just got back from Disneyland so I am just catching up on everything. I was up all night before we left finishing the new site.

so tough, I would have a back up plan. Volcano pool down would be a deal breaker for us as well.

There is no posted schedule but those involved seem to be under the impression that some minor work will happen early in the year (I believe it is a requirement to bring some things up to code and have to be done by an earlier date) and then the major redesig is planned for March but all that could change. I would say there is a very good chance that from about March to almost the end of the year that the whole area from the beach to the GCH could be under construction. I don't think we will have any better idea until the begining of the year.

In case anyone is interested I am trying to keep an index in the first post of pages of Pics and videos with the dates. As well as announcement dates etc....whatever I can to try to keep information somewhat organized.

That's what it sounds like.... I was there just last week with my DH and we tried to get some information from one of the managers, but boy they are being so "tight-lipped" about everything. I tried asking about the pool and told him we were trying to plan for next summer and he acted like he knew nothing about any major rehabs to the pool (maybe he didn't, but I got more of the impression he did and couldn't say anything ).

The pool being down would be a deal breaker for me as well, assuming I planned to spend my entire Vacation at the Poly.

Because I expect the pool to be down when we visit in early May, I've thought about splitting between Poly and CR and then, for the Poly leg, requesting a longhouse on the west side of the resort (we'd just stay in a GV room, so I'm thinking of requesting a Monorail facing room in Aotearoa).

While I'm not normally a big fan of the west side of the resort (normally prefer Tokelou), during the construction, I'm leaning toward the west side (particularly Aotearoa) because it's farther away from construction and closer to the pools at the GF (I would prefer to walk than take the boat shuttle).

Right now, I'm only booked at CR as I'm waiting to see what's going on with the GCH (if there's major stuff going on there AND at the pool, then I can't even justify Poly for part of a split stay). Hopefully, we'll have more information on this by the time they release GP room discounts (which, for my dates, will likely come out in late December or early January).

This is kind of where I am now... I proposed doing a split stay this way my daughter can get her wish of staying at the Poly and we can try something new (thought of CR) BUT DH isn't sold on paying the $$ for the Poly IF the pool is out of commission. We did take a look at the buildings closer to the GF but it still looked like a good hike to their pool (may not be?) but with no guarantee on requests, we'd be taking a chance.

I just changed out of the Poly due to the uncertainty for end of April/beginning of May. I was really concerned with napping kids who love the pool. I'm a bit sad about the whole thing as we were really really looking forward to the Poly. Next trip I suppose.

Really think you made a wise decision. We are life-long Poly fans and stay there almost every trip to WDW. But I don't plan on going back until all of this construction is finished. Seems obvious to me that mgmnt is releasing information as late as possible so as to keep as many potential visitors locked into their Poly ressies. I would be too stressed out leading up to our vacation dreading some last minute announcement that they will be working on the pool or GCH. No thanks. This will just give us an opportunity to try some new Disney resorts in the next couple of years! We are staying WL this summer and I'm actually really looking forward to it!

It wouldn't surprise me if they don't wait until sometime in February (or even early March) to make any sort of official announcment about the pool or GCH. By then, anyone hoping to stay at a Monorail resort anytime before mid-August may be locked in, especially if their second choice is CR, which seems to be booking up faster than usual for 2014.

So if your're concerned about construction and your second choice is CR, I think it's wise to book that instead. It will be easier to switch back to Poly than the other way around (although I wouldn't feel comfortable about switching back until it's very close to my arrival date and, by then, I'll likely have missed the opportunity to apply a room discount - in view of that 'catch 22' it's easy to understand why many people, including dedicated Poly lovers, have decided to wait until construction is finished to even consider staying there again).

Don't expect a notice about the pool until the day they close it and there is a notice slid under the door of your room. Also there is no dates as to when GCH work will start. It could start next week or 2015.

Reports today from Hawaii longhouse is the construction was very loud.

THIS is the exact reason we are missing out on our fav resort next year... Its killing me!!! We have a March and May trip booked. Doing BC then YC. 2014 was going to be our Poly year :( we haven't stayed there since 2009. Don't get me wrong we actually prefer the Epcot resort area but need some Poly time too.

I can only imagine how loud :(. With all this uncertainty I could not book until it is all done. I would love a video from the longhouses inside , or on the balcony to get a real sense of the sound.

Anyone know between what times in the day they do construction? I want to make sure i dont hear buzzing and beeps through the night

They usually only work during daylight hours. I would think for them to work at night it would take something big....like they cut a line or something.

I must be an odd duck. The construction and closures etc....are not bothering me at all and not deterring me from staying at the Poly. I honestly cannot see myself staying anywhere else even with all that is going on.
