Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Thanks Steve. I am still not going to change our December reservation. I love the Poly too much and I figure we can put up with the construction especially if we get the longhouse I want. If we don't we will make the best of it. I would not be happy anywhere else.

With that attitude you will be fine. At least you will know what to expect by keeping up on the updates. I myself would not change either but then again I like to see the changes happening up close.

You are right Steve. I just saw the pictures of the walls and they really don't look all that bad to me. To me there is just no place better than the Poly. I walk through those doors and the whole world goes away, every bad thought, every worry, everything. I know this trip will be just as awesome as all of our others.

I think if the walls were all you were going to see it would be fine but I would expect over the next few months to see construction out in the water and possibly heavier equipment at some point. Also I am surprised Tahiti and Rapa Nui still have people in them when the staff was informed that they were starting to clear people out of the longhouses weeks ago. The major disruption will be when they begin work in and around the pool and GCH but I know they will do their best to accommodate people’s needs and if they ask to be moved to another resort they will get people into other Deluxes where rooms are available.

This is why we are booked at the Poly next Summer in our usual GV CL. My husband wants to check things out up close and we prefer the Poly. We still want and appreciate the updates. Thank you, Tikiman.

I am sure they will do the GCH in steps and that wont bother me at all. As for the pool they will have a boat to the GF if we really want to swim. Unless it is also effected there is also the quiet pool. If Ohana is closed while we are there I will be a little sad since it is a tradition but maybe we will find another interesting place to eat that we have never been to. I am going into this with positive thoughts. Worrying wont change a thing and sometimes your mind can make things worse than they really are.

Those walls don't look bad at all so far. I've gotten myself excited our stay at the CR now, but I know that I will look at the Poly and feel a little sad.

Steve I do have to say that I do really appreciate your updates. It helps to know what to expect when we get there and plan our stay accordingly.

ITA!

We have just booked a somewhat last minute surprise trip for our kids for the first week of December. We are just going with the QS meal plan. I'm really hoping that CC's won't be affected by any early GCH work (would have to rethink some of our schedule wrt where we might eat, ie. resort vs. parks). Any word on what they might tackle first there? The lobby?

I would hope they would work from front to back as closing down CC would make things kind of rough as it is the only QS and the only place I know of to refill your mugs.

OFF TOPIC How did you get your tickers side by side? I have 2 trips planned but can't get both on because it cuts off the writing if one is under the other.

Those don't look like walls, just those small barriers they put up to block water run off/erosion.

The work they are doing in the lagoon will be serious stuff.. they'll be no hiding that.

When editing your sig, just don't but a return between the two of them.

That makes sense and that's what I'm hoping for! I can deal with the rest.

Ok, I hope I explain this well ... I have them contained in the same code line, ie. there is the square bracket & the url info for mickeypath, then the two image codes side by side for each ticker, then the closing code with the square bracket for the url. I hope this makes sense?

(I tried to copy the code with the image ID numbers left out so the code would show, but not the banners, but it didn't work)

Last time they closed CC’s they relocated the quick service food over to the old Snack Isle location.

I could live with that too! As long as there would be a QS restaurant available (IF GCH work were to be going on during our stay)

For me, either of 'Ohana or Kona being closed would be a deal breaker (I don't know if I should take any solace in the fact that both of these are still taking ADRs through mid-March and I have seen no specific rumors about either being closed at a certain time).

I'm planning a split stay but if I were staying exclusively at the Poly, a major GCH and/or Nanea pool refurb would also be a deal breaker.

I totally get that. We were initially going to be at the Poly for a few days in March, with the intent of spending quite a bit of time at the resort. I was really concerned about the impact on that trip of full blown GCH and pool work, combined with a big chunk of the beach being closed.

Fortunately we are now going at the beginning of December, with the majority of our time being planned in the parks and no table service meals. Even if some work has started on the GCH by then it thankfully shouldn't impact our plans too much. For what we've done on previous trips it definitely would!

I completely understand that change is necessary and I'm hopeful that when it's done it's going to be fantastic (albeit probably even more outrageously expensive!) But at the same time, when construction starts to have a big impact (eg. what will potentially be going on in the new year will be more than one central location of the resort being impacted) I think guests should be well-informed (as well as possible) by management and compensated to a certain degree, because the Poly experience that we had last year is not the Poly experience that we would get next year (although it would likely be at a higher cost)

I was at the Polynesian this past week from 9/7 to 9/12.

One day we came back from Epcot to find a little note on the desk with a flashlight sitting on top of it. The note said that the power would be out from 2-3am that evening in our building and several others. They also had a "light all" set up outside of our building (Samoa) on the pathway between Samoa and Niue.

We got a laugh out of it, as they never mentioned it when we checked in.
After turning the AC down another degree before we went to sleep, we never noticed or heard anything.

No signs of construction before we left.

For those planning vacations for 2014, I'm concerned Disney management is thinking, "we'd like to have the resort conversion finished by early 2016 and since we're termprarily lowering the resort's capacity by closing Tahiti and Rapa Nui for DVC conversion, there's no better time to go hog wild with GCH and pool work. But if the public were to know the extent of the construction we're planning, we might have trouble even selling the resort at reduced capacity. So we need to keep a lid on this until the last possible moment."

From a short term business perspective, I can see how this would be the most attractive way for Disney to go about this. But I think it's a lousy way to treat folks who are paying top dollar to stay here.

Hopefully, they're planning to stage the construction such that the disruption to the resort's ammenities and ambiance won't be too much at any given time. But given Disney management's recent track record of prioritizing DVC development over everything else, I think they feel a strong temptation to push the envelope on construction's effect on guest experience.:worried:

They haven't really kept quiet about it though. They have started sending out letters about the first stage of construction. I don't know of any other resort that does that. We paid top dollar at Portofino Bay and it was undergoing major construction to the point that the CL lounge had to be moved. We knew nothing about it till we got there. Plus it was ugly and noisy. At least Disney will try to minimize that as much as possible.
