Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

I think you are a great example of an informed decision! Everyone needs to choose what's best for there family, and be sure to report from the field what you see;). For us , daytime construction noise would be a problem with little ones who nap. If my kids were bigger might not matter.

exactly Jennygt. My kids are older and we don't have the nap issues. That said I also don't want to be right on top of it either so I am requesting a longhouse across the resort. I hope upon hope we get what we want but if we don't then as long as we are not right on top of it I will be okay with it. We all need to watch and see what is going on during the time we will be there. For some it will be a non issue and for some it will be a deal breaker. Either way that is okay. You need to do what is best for you.

This is pretty much us as well.

Just read reports that the name of the resort will change when all done:sad:. I can only assume that this would not just be adding "and Villas" to the end like at gf. That would not even seem like a change to me.

That is interesting, maybe they will bring back the Polynesian Village :scratchin

If you are booking 2 packages, it's $200 per booking.

If you are booking 2 room only, it's the cost of 1 night's stay per booking. So if you're booking a room only at Poly and GF, the two deposits will be quite a bit more than $200.

That's correct, you pay a deposit (whatever it is) on each of the reservations. As long as you cancel before the penalty date (which differs for packages vs. room only) then you will get the deposit money back in full.

I guess I am confused to see people who are surprised when they see stuff going on at the Polynesian. I would just understand that from now until the beginning of 2016 things will be going on.

I think most would agree that we're looking at at least a couple of years for construction. I think what people (myself included) are dealing with is how the start dates (i.e. "now") have been quickly rolling into the present instead of the "distant" future of 2014. It just makes those of us going in the near future a bit concerned because we thought all of this construction business would be starting after our trips. For me, especially, the planned changes to the GCH are scary. I've been wanting to stay at Poly for 25 years, and now that our first stay is approaching rapidly (in 10 days), I keep finding myself on here looking for information to calm my nerves.

Yes, of course, it's Disney and we'll still really enjoy our trip. Can't forget about that. And can't get upset because SOMEONE'S vacation will be interrupted by rehabs and it's not fair to wish things would fall on the calendar in a different place because of that.

But you know just as much as anyone that it can really be an emotional rollercoaster to follow all the half-information and changed half-information (none of it publicly announced by Disney, mind you!) in the weeks and months leading up to check-in.

I bought an extra memory card so that I could capture the ambiance of the GCH, so I'd love for them to stick to one portion of the overall project at a time so that there are still several pockets of Poly-goodness at any given time.

I am reporting that I have read that the new name is.......... Pause for effect.... Polynesian village!!!!!!!!! Yay that I can deal with!

They won't ruin my vacation, but I never got a letter. If it was not for this site and Tikiman, I would never know about any of this and would have been really mad when I got there to find out about the construction. I just wish that they would have reached out better about the upcoming construction.

I agree. It is pretty crappy, especially since this is our first week long Disney vacation with our kids. I am going in positive, but if things aren't 'magical' because of all the construction I will not be happy and be sure to voice it.

Poly Vacation 9/14-9/21!!!!!

Have a great trip and keep us updated!!!! September is a great month at wdw:thumbsup2

Here's my trip report from Sunday - Wednesday.

On Monday, I saw a lot of activity related to the power outage test. I thought it was going to be actual construction getting underway, but once we knew about the test (they went door to door explaining what was happening and handed out flashlights) it made sense. It was all gone by Tuesday afternoon.

Tikiman reported that blue marking flags had gone up around Sunset Point. I saw only 2 on either side of the sidewalk leading to SP but very close to the Hawaii building. No signs of spray paint on the ground.

There was work going on in the parking lot today. They were pulling up the shrubs in the beds closest to the building. I assume they are being replaced with something, but unfortunately today was our last so we won't see it finished.

FWIW - September is a great time to be at WDW. Lines and crowds were small. We didn't wait more than 20 minutes for any ride that we didn't FP+.

Pics taken from Sunset Pointe and a little down from Hawaii LH as you can see no walls up around Tahiti or Beach

Also walked thru the back to TTC and there is nothing as of today in fact saw several rooms in Tahiti occupied

Every day closer we get to our honeymoon the more nervous I get that walls are going to pop up before we get there. This will be our first stay at the Poly and I would love even just one night of no construction to enjoy the resort. Nine more days.

So glad I found this thread. Thanks to all who've been giving us reports "from the ground." I'll be checking this regularly! :surfweb: (Though I have to admit, the only thing that would cause me to have a bad Poly stay would be 'dozers running all night in front of Hawaii bldg. The rest, I can deal with--I love love love the Poly!! Doesn't mean I'm happy about all the changes, though!)
