Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Looks to me like they are doing the underground work first. Electrical / plumbing etc. T hat explains the power outages too, as they need new junctions to power the grid for the area.

I am very familiar with construction, and my guess it you will not see heavy machinery until winter. Plus in FL , construction is best done during the winter months.

I would say major foundation placements would probably take place Jan-march. I am only speculating, but that looks like the course.

The worst part of the whole process will be the leveling and grading for the foundation work. After that, it will go fairly quickly. .

That would make sense. Any updates from the field?

Yes, you get them at Kona ... delicious fluffy pancakes covered with macadamia nut butter and pineapple sauce :cloud9: Wish they had them at CC's!

Sounds to me like I am going to have to make a trip over to Kona for breakfast LOL

Oh wow, I thought I was going to have the Tonga toast, but after reading that I am torn!

Now the question for me is early, mid or late January. If late, no issues.

Any updates on the GCH refurb timeline?

This makes me feel better about our August 2014 stay. If it was a 7 month refurb and a January start, I was worried. But if it's march. Not that it couldn't slip more, but it's more comfort than July...

Reporting from the field: Construction at poly currently is very minimal and not affecting our stay. We shall see what Monday morning brings but still only the low silt retaining walls. No machinery or anything going on this weekend. I will take a walk around the area later too and report back if anything changes tomorrow.

We're planning an early Jan trip and have fingers crossed that GCH construction will be minimal at that time. We just can't see spending top dollar if the ambiance is reduced and our total immersion in Disney impacted.

I really appreciate all the updates on this thread and from Tikiman's facebook page :thumbsup2

They are probably going to do the GCH in sections so it shouldn't impact people too much. When it will kind of impact people the most is when they remove the water feature in the main lobby. I hate to see it go but I understand why it has to.

Thank you!
I hope at least one person per day, or ever other day will do this.

We are 33 days out and while I would assume they wouldn't be drilling right outside the rooms that are occupied or using heavy machinery all hours of the day and night, I still would like to know to what extent the construction is.

As long as I the girls can safely play in front of, and 15-20 yards or so either side of the hammock outside room 1503, and the noise isn't loud enough and constant enough to disturb my 5 minute cat naps in said hammock, all will be right with the world!

:)

*thinking positive thoughts!*

Kona is the most underrated restaurant in WDW. Great place for food and not too expensive. Its out favorite little secret, so do not tell anyone.

The cat naps I wouldn't count on unless they are behind schedule on their plans. That is a little over a month away and I would suspect they would be into it a bit by then.

Seems unusual that they would have the pool out of action during peak summer months??:confused3 maybe the upgrade in march will not take too long??

well that's my wish anyway:)
