Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

I have been following this thread out of pure curiosity. We stayed at the Poly for the first time just a few weeks ago and fell in love with it! We stayed CL TPV. This was the view from our balcony from left to right:

As you can see, the view was beautiful! We enjoyed sitting on the balcony, taking in the whole extraordinary scene as well as listening to the special sounds that you get at this resort...the horn from the ferry, the train sounds from the park, and the awesome Hawaiian music!

We booked TPV not just to see the castle, but to see the castle amongst the whole beautiful scene. LV is almost as expensive as TPV, so I sort of look at it in the same category as TPV. You book LV to see the lagoon in all its beauty.

So, this is my thought on the effect the construction noise and equipment may have on the LV and TPV rooms:

I sort of equate it to buying an expensive designer dress with a chocolate stain on it. Are the parts of the dress without the stain still lovely? Yes, of course. But, does the chocolate stain sort of "affect" the overall beauty of the dress? Definitely. I wouldn't buy a dress with a chocolate stain on it without a pretty good discount. I do think that construction noise, trucks, and walls will be like a stain on the beautiful "designer" view you get when you book LV or TPV. Just my opinion of course. :) And, of course, none of us really knows what the construction will look like and the noise it will bring, so this is all just conjecture.

But, I would really like to see Disney offer a good discount to those people who book LV and TPV rooms during construction if those views are somehow tainted by the construction. I have faith, or at least hope, that Disney will do the right thing here!

I just keep thinking back to the overall peaceful feeling we got out on our balcony a few weeks ago. And, I am worried that the people who booked exactly the same category as us won't get that same experience.

Good luck to everyone traveling in the next few months! I hope that the impact from the construction will be minimal and that you all have awesome vacations no matter what the construction brings your way! I will keep following this thread to see how it all pans out.

And, a huge shout out to Tikiman...you rock! :cool1:

Well said!:thumbsup2 I could not agree with you more. Thanks so much for the pictures, they will be a great reference for so many people I am sure!

We are heading to the Poly in Nov. to celebrate our 20th anniversary (CL for the first time!). I got the letter in the mail about the construction, but we are sticking with the Poly. It holds a special place in our heart:)

I hope the construction won't be too invasive, but we'll enjoy ourselves anyway!

We will be going too in November! As Long as they don't start construction on the GCH or the pool I am okay with it. I trust Steve and his updates. I am also relying on seeing everyone from dis to post pics of their stay to see how and if it we should change resorts. I still think its going to be magical ;)

I agree!:)

I asked my 7.5 year old DD what she wanted to do... She said the most important thing is staying at the Poly. We booked our annual visit months ago- TPV with a Tahiti request. At this point we are keeping fingers crossed that Disney magic will come through for us-- as long as we have the Poly, a castle view, and a dole whip it can't be too bad!

My Ds is the same way, LOVES the poly!! Hope you all have a wonderful trip!! Keep us all posted here whats going on if you can!;)

There is still plenty of time for you to get it.. Also if your booked in a category that may not be affected you may not get the letter.. Meaning if your in TPV & requested Tuvalu since you won't be affected maybe you won't get letter.

We are TPV and requested balcony.

This was to be the year when my dream of staying at the Poly finally came true.

I booked back in March and was on cloud nine, did my research and decided Fiji was the longhouse for our first stay. I was concerned at first about the VGF construction as I had decided upon staying on the Luau Cove side of Fiji, but then VGF was due to be complete and open in October. Our trip was in November so no worries :)

Then Rumors of DVC construction started, closure of SOA, a DVC building on Luau Cove :scared1: but......as I began to feel uneasy about my trip it looked as if construction would not begin until 2014.

Fall discounts came out :woohoo: we decided to upgrade to CL but alas not available for our dates :sad2:

We switched resorts and days later out came the rumors of the construction starting up in September, the ugly walls were to be going up :scared1:

I keep reading of everyone who say they are keeping their reservations and hopeing for the best but I have to say as a person who was planing my first stay at the Poly I truely had/have no desire to deal with the construction. For months I looked at pictures of the resort, the beaches, sunset point etc soon to be hidden behind the construction walls.

I admire the Poly lovers and their positive attitude but for me I am glad now we switched.

I agree Disney needs to offer the effected rooms at a deep discount but I kinda doubt it since during the refurb and now the RO discount has been 30% whereas just a year or so ago the best % we were seeing was 20-25% so they may consider 30% sufficient to lure guests to the Poly knowing of all the loyal Poly lovers out there.

We still have almost 5 months to go... so much time to worry and stalk this thread! ;)

good to see that at least they are starting to have common courtesy for the guests coming soon! I hope you have a great trippixiedust: and look forward to your updates!
:coffee:
My DW called the Poly and asked if our view from (requested upper floor) the Hawaii longhouse would be obstructed because of the construction. The CM said no, if the TP view was sold to you, it will be available. The CM did say there are rooms in Hawaii that had a TP view before the construction, but now they do not.

The CM also said the beach to the left of the Hawaii building will not be accessible, as well as Sunset Point. Personally, I think the beach to the left of Sunset Point (right in front of Hawaii) is the one that won't be available. Again, staying Oct 6 - 10.

So there you have it, that's all I know. I probably won't use the beach at the Poly, the only white sandy beach I want to see is in Hawaii, not in front of Hawaii.

As of today rumor is that they are building all 20 water bungalos they will be grand villas will sleep 8......all the rest will be studios. No one or 2 bedroom.

As of today on tikiman FB page, they are building all 20 water bungalos they will be grand villas will sleep 8......all the rest will be studios. No one or 2 bedroom.

Interesting. Well, as a family of six, I guess we won't ever be staying at the Poly. No water bungalows for us.

Thanks for the update.

I bet then the studios will sleep 5 like the studios @ VGF and if connecting can accomadate larger families.

For my family's first trip to Disney I booked the Poly based on location for ease of naps for my toddler, monorail and ferry use, and kid fun factor. Now that it is about to undergo major renovations and I don’t know what to do. I am booked for early May. I am worried the construction will be noisy at nap time. I am just in a standard garden view room but even so the Poly is very expensive and I don't want to pay all of this money to get less of an experience due to construction/no pool, etc. Do you think I should change my reservation or wait? Where should I change my reservation too that would be similar to the Poly??
Help!!!

My two favorite poly back up hotels if i want to be near Magic Kingdom are GF and WL. GF has the monorail and boat to MK, 24 hr food service (like Gasparilla's) and I believe a fun new kids water play area. WL has a nice, naturalistic, and relaxed feel to it like the poly. It also has a very convenient access to MK and other monorail hotels by boat. I don't recall seeing a children's play area, but I'm pretty sure they have one.

Another choice if you want something similar to the feel of the poly yet don't mind being away from MK is Animal Kingdom.

I would not cancel now, but keep watch on things and possibly book a backup hotel "just in case."

I should add that WL does not have direct access to other monorail hotels, but you can take a boat to Ft Wilderness and CR. from CR you can get the monorail to Poly or GF.
