Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

So for a guy who stays at Fiji. And only care that the main pool are and some beach is open and that the GCH is intact, i should be ok for 2nd week november?

As of today on tikiman FB page, they are building all 20 water bungalos they will be grand villas will sleep 8......all the rest will be studios. No one or 2 bedroom.

I've been tempted to finally buy into DVC for the Poly (especially since DVC is taking over my favorite end of the resort). But if this is true, my desire to purchase just went WAY down.

But not CL? See you could get a room at Tuvalu and have TPV which is on the other side of the resort then and not be affected

We got the letter yesterday. They are going bulk rate which explains the delay. I am really hoping we are not in the lesser view rooms looking over the construction. We wanted to see fireworks from our room, not construction.

While not guaranteed, it is not uncommon for premium and platinum guests to be upgraded to CL. If that happens I promise I will not complain LOL!

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get a pixie dust upgrade!!:wizard::wizard::wizard:

I wonder how if at all this will affect timing for pool/ gch rehab?

I haven't been following construction news too closely so I apologize if this has been discussed/answered, but does anyone know when the pool/GCH is tentatively scheduled to undergo a refurb?

For my family's first trip to Disney I booked the Poly based on location for ease of naps for my toddler, monorail and ferry use, and kid fun factor. Now that it is about to undergo major renovations and I don’t know what to do. I am booked for early May. I am worried the construction will be noisy at nap time. I am just in a standard garden view room but even so the Poly is very expensive and I don't want to pay all of this money to get less of an experience due to construction/no pool, etc. Do you think I should change my reservation or wait? Where should I change my reservation too that would be similar to the Poly??
Help!!!

I agree with the pp that I would wait and see how construction actually proceeds before changing resorts. With that said, if you do decide to change, the GF is a beautiful resort and IMO, is comparable to the Poly. I can't comment on the CR as we are trying it for the first time in December.

We got the letter yesterday.

We also got the letter yesterday. We are booked GV CL for 2 nights in December (12/22-12/24), so I'm curious as to what exactly will be going on during that time.

Hi! We had the same problem for November. I have been trying to determine the degree to which the construction will impact our visit in Nov. but the reality is that no one really knows for sure.

What I DO know:
Disney tries to minimize guest disruption by working during hours that most guests spend in the parks. (That means work will likely be done during nap times)
There is a LOT of construction planned for the Poly starting in Sept, so it is probable that something will be happening during your visit, and perhaps several areas of construction.

Noise is perhaps the most unavoidable in the middle of the day and with an infant and small child a large part of the middle of our day was going to be spent in the Polynesian. We had about 4 hours per afternoon scheduled for enjoying the Poly resort itself.

As a result, we decided to move. We thought that we could better live with staying in a different resort unnecessarily, than live with the disruption of construction in a worst case scenario at the Poly.

The options on the monorail are only 2: the Contemporary or the Grand Floridian. We have the GF booked (LV), but it is more expensive and I am beginning to lean toward the CR. The walk to the MK is enticing as well as the option of a short monorail ride to TTC and buses to all other resorts as well as theme parks. THe rooms are large and the garden wing rooms are affordable. Unfortunately, we don't enjoy the theming of either as well as that of the Poly.

WL has better theming for our group, but is not on the monorail. It will all come down to where we can get the best deal. we have a limited budget, so GF RPC is out at $1000. per night!!

It is a difficult choice. Good luck making your decision. I know that it is difficult.

I have heard the pool rehab will be in Jan though I was told it was indefinitely put off. I would figure on Jan and then if it doesn't happen great. No one really knows yet about the GCH I don't think. I have heard they are going to do it but I haven't seen any dates mentioned yet.

We will be at the poly right before thanksgiving, staying CL. Should I consider changing resorts? Definitely want to be on the monorail, but that is such a busy week, who knows if anything would even be available? I love the poly, but if large parts of the resort will be inaccessible, I will definitely look into making a change.

As far as has been released by Disney only the area to the right of Hawaii, which is Tahiti, the beach and Sunset Point are effected at this point. I have not heard about anything starting at the GCH or pool at that time.

Also about changing resorts for those not staying CL you might consider asking for a room on the other side of the resort which will greatly lessen your chances of being effected by noise etc..from the construction.

So hard to know what to do? Just stay informed and be ready to move if you are very unhappy with what is going on when you get there.

My two favorite poly back up hotels if i want to be near Magic Kingdom are GF and WL. GF has the monorail and boat to MK, 24 hr food service (like Gasparilla's) and I believe a fun new kids water play area. WL has a nice, naturalistic, and relaxed feel to it like the poly. It also has a very convenient access to MK and other monorail hotels by boat. I don't recall seeing a children's play area, but I'm pretty sure they have one.

Another choice if you want something similar to the feel of the poly yet don't mind being away from MK is Animal Kingdom.

I would not cancel now, but keep watch on things and possibly book a backup hotel "just in case."

Thanks. I am waiting for now but I am definitely going to look into GF!

Thank you! I am waiting for now. But you addressed my main concern of noise during naptime. That seems unavoidable at the Poly. For now I will wait it out a little longer and maybe call Disney and see what they recommend as well. I can't decide between the GF or the CR as my back up as both look good, I do like the ferry option to MK. I am wondering if I wait until we get to the Poly if Disney would move me to the GF or CR if the construction was disruptive to our trip/nap time?

If anything they would probably move you away from the construction.

In my experience, they will move you if you are unhappy with construction noise. We were in YC in Jan 2012 and the noise was very loud from machinery. After a few days we brought it to the CM's attention and they quickly moved us to the BC. They were very nice and understanding.

The only issue that I foresee is if everything is booked. I did read about one person's experience at the GF during construction where the noise was an issue, but they were unable to be moved due to lack of availability. Then there is nothing to be done but make the best of it. In our case, we need 2 rooms to accommodate everyone so we decided not to risk the chance that they would simply not have other rooms that meet our requirements. If you are going at a slow time of year, it will likely be very easy to move if you are unhappy.

Well we are going early May so it's not the peak season but I have no idea how quickly they book up. Plus if they are going to switch me to a different resort I would hope I could get input and be able to placed into one of the other monorail resorts and not a lesser resort (convenience, price and amenity's)

We didn't have a choice ( no input) when we were moved. we didn't get quite as good a room or room location as what we had in the YC but we were just happy to get away from the constant noise! They did talk about the Poly or BC and they were thankfully able to get the BC for us. The Poly would have been OK, but we were doing a primarily Epcot/DHS trip at the time. You could be moved to another deluxe not on the monorail, but you could always opt NOT to move. It would all depend upon availability I expect. That is the way it worked for us. they tried for the closest to what we had booked that took us away from the noise. We were very happy with the result. I am certain that they would do everything possible to help!

That's what I am hoping would happen if its to loud for our little ones to sleep. We are staying Cl in 58 days so I just keep checking that CR and GF have CL availability and hope they would move us if its a problem. I know there are a few stays after mine so I will take pictures of what is going on and let everyone know what it was like when I get back after Nov 5. I am desperately watching for trip reports to let me know whats going on in the next couple weeks before our stay.

I will be interested in hearing what is happening during your stay. We will be there in December construction or not but requesting the other side of the resort as we are not staying CL this time. I would like to know what is going on.

Thanks :goodvibes. We are sticking with the Poly regardless, but I'll be sad if the GCH is closed as I love walking through there.

You're welcome :). I don't think you can go wrong with either the GF or CR. I would choose the one that the theme/decor appeals to you the most as they are both convenient to MK ;).

Disney will definitely move you if you are not happy, but as the pp said, where you get moved to would depend on availability. I agree that I would also want to be moved to another monorail resort that is comparable in price/amenities, although sometimes that can't always be done. With that said, I'm sure Disney would work with you as best they can as they don't want unhappy guests.

Thank you for offering to post pics and report back after your stay :goodvibes. We won't be there until 12/22, but it will still be nice to see what's going on in early November.
