Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

My guess is that they aren't going to commit to a start date until they know how the new DVC at GF is selling. I don't have anything to support this other than old patterns, but it seems likely. The refurb will be done in early October so I am sure they are going to wait on any additional construction until they are ready to start the DVC project.

That would make sense. For us I just want to know what will be happening around Aug 2014. Only time will tell.

Following~ we go each January for the Marathon Weekend and usually stay at the Polynesian. Will be watching for updates~

I have nothing to add except an opinion. The Poly is my favorite resort we have stayed in so far, and I thought about booking it for our upcoming late September trip. I went with WL instead because it was significantly cheaper, plus with rumors of pending construction I did not want to take a chance with the Poly.
My thinking on staying deluxe is that there is no way I will pay anything near full price to stay at a deluxe that is under construction. The price is too high and WDW has too many other wonderful options for me to have to take a chance on having to pay full retail to hear jackhammers, breathe sawdust, and look at a crane out of a $450 p/n window.

I am confident that whatever Disney comes up with for Poly will be terrific, and I look forward to a return stay after it is all settled... unless they want to start cutting prices during construction.

Agreed! :thumbsup2

exactly.;)

The best indicator of Disney Vacation Development moving forward on a project has been the Florida Water management District's website, since this is the only governmental agency Disney needs to receive permits from for changes on property. This is how the villas at the Grand Floridian were uncovered as well as Bay Lake Tower.

Keep an eye on here (or in the DVC boards, as people watch the website with regularity), and you'll know when it moves from rumor to possible construction.

tikiman just added a blog on his site, at the bottom he gets into every aspect of the speculation. All I can say is anything can happen, and the time line is not so firm, he quotes dates out as far as 2017? who knows? As soon as Disney is final with there plans I guess we will know, until then I guess we just have to wait and hope for a timely announcement so we can all plan accordingly.:rolleyes1

Just read Tikiman's latest update and note that he's reporting that the Volcano Pool may be down for an extended refurb starting in January 2014. If this rumor is true and the refurb takes as long as the Courtyard Pool refurb at the GF (which took about 7 months), I'll have to adjust my May 2014 trip plans and stay elsewhere. :sad1:

That is a major bummer. That would be a resort changer for us as we'll.

Hmmm good information! Thanks, will keep an eye on the DVC board.

DH & I just purchased AP's and we were just days away from committing to a stay at the Poly 2/2-2/9/14.
We never even considered anywhere else........

I guess we need to come up with a back-up.

Once an official booking/deposit is completed,is it set in cement/cannot be changed??????
What is the policy for changing resorts??

I'm keeping a close watch on this as well. We're currently booked at the Poly for the first week of December and if there is construction that will impact our stay then we'll definitely be moving. Given the price of the Poly I will not pay those high rates to endure construction. That said, we were there at the and of January this year when they were re-doing Hawaii and that construction did not affect us in any way.

We will be staying at the Poly during the same week :) . I'm willing to gamble that any construction taking place during the end of this year will be minimal. It's been my wife's dream to stay there so I'm willing to risk it though I really hope they wait till January to start.

You can make changes! I always second-guess my resort choice and have frequently made changes. You just have to pay the difference (if the new resort is more expensive). If you change within 45 days of arrival and the new resort costs less, there may be a penalty.

Book a room only. There are no cancellation fees before 5 days. No change fees. You can make changes right up until you check in without penalty. Requires one night deposit before check in. You cannot get dining plan, but you are AP holders. The tables in wonderland is a much better discount than the dining plans. You will get 20% off on food and alcohol.

Where are the dvc boards? I can't find them. Trying to check out that water dept thing someone posted here.

Further down the boards there is an entire section dedicated to DVC. Just scroll down from the main DIS board page.

FTI tikiman is reporting that the volcano pool is going to be closed for an undetermiined amound of time starting in Jan. No specific info on what is happening.

I know there was some talk of Sept closing but that seems to be untrue at this point?:confused3 I will post if I read anything else about this. Anyone have anymore onformation on the pool situation?

"Its All About the Mouse Travel" Facebook page posted a list of closures on Monday. It says the volcano pool will be closed 9/9/13 - 9/20/13. I have not seen this anywhere else. Can anyone confirm this? We are booked during those dates, and this would be a show stopper for us. Half of the reason my kids want to go to WDW is to stay at the Polynesian, and swim in the volcano pool. Hoping it is not true!
