Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

I know y'all have been answering the same questions over and over and I read through the last few pages, but how much construction do you think will be going on through the 2nd week in Dec? This is the 1st trip I finally bit the bullet and paid out for us to do a split stay, first CBR then over to our dream resort the Poly. Mainly concerned about the GCH, and the pool as we have a few down days planned for kids to swim and us to chill.

I think no one is 100% sure, but from what I have read it sounds like the pool and GCH will still be ok in early december. I think it is January that the pool and more extensive work there begin. I am also there the first and second week of Dec:)

Based on reports some work has started on the GCH, but it seems minimal so far (Kona coffee bar currently). There has been a lot of talk about the water feature in the lobby, so my guess is that would be the first major thing they will tackle, but no idea when.

According to Tikiman's info the pool work shouldn't start until January.

I wonder if nothing too major will start on the GCH before then either with the bigger crowds through the holidays?

We are also there the first week of December, so my opinions are probably just a lot of wishful thinking on my part! :rotfl2:

Well it's probably my wishful thinking that is going to take your opinion as the gospel :rotfl2: Here's hoping we all have a good week!! Thanks everyone!

I'm leaving 2 weeks from today!!

Can anyone tell me if the Kona Coffee Bar is closed in the GCH? I like to grab a drink on our way to the monorail.

Not sure exactly what they are doing construction wise in there. Thanks!

The work at the Kona Island Coffee had nothing to do with the renovations of the GCH. They had some work that I hear had somethign to do with the refrigerators and it should have opened back up this weekend.

I've been reading your website, and your facebook page, thanks for all f the info!! Now I'm going to be a pain, haha, and ask your opinion on Dec at Poly and what longhouse do you suggest I request? I don't want to chance it as this is our 1st and hope not last trip staying there :)
Thanks!!

Depending on your view. I would suggest Fiji or Tuvalu. The back side of Tuvalu is garden view and all of Fiji is garden view. These two are on the other side of the resort but still close to the GCH. This is where I am requesting when we go down in December. If you want to be close to the volcano pool then I would suggest Samoa. This is on the side with the but a bit away from it. The front faces the volcano pool and the back faces the quiet pool. I am not sure where to tell you if you have a lagoon or theme park view.

Did I read correctly, that guests of the Polynesian will be able to use GF's pool, once the volcano pool is closed?

Its not a pain to ask but lately I find it hard to answer that question. That question is hard to answer even when there is not all this uncertainty about construction because telling someone what longhouse to request is really based on opinion. That is why I have a page on my site that describes the views and gives my picks and why. Also each of my longhouse pages try and explain the good and bad about the longhouse so you can decide what seems to fit your needs. The bottom line is not to stress over what to request because it is just a request and you can’t really pick exactly where you want to stay. They are going to give you what is available and a lot of factors go into that including what time you check in. You could check in early and later your perfect room becomes available or you could check in late and your perfect rooms was taken by someone else who switched rooms.

Now with all the chances of construction coming up it is hard to know what will be happening when so avoiding a certain side of the resort may not be the best thing to do. The work over around Tahiti might not be that disruptive and the stuff at the pool could be very disruptive. Since the are improving the entire resort to some extent there are always chances that even over around the west side of the resort they could be working on, electrical, plumbing or even redoing the paths at some point in the next 2 years. I think there are parts to this project we don’t even have a clue about yet.

There is a case of different opinions. You see Tuvalu as a nice garden view pick and I would list it as one of the worst (parking lot side of Rapa Nui being the worst). The garden side of Tuvalu looks right into the end of Fiji longhouse so it is basically a view of the stairway of the building unless you are in the couple of rooms on the very ends. I would go with Aotearoa for standard view over Tuvalu anytime but Fiji is a great pick either side.

I personally would go for Samoa, Niue and Rarotonga myself for their location.

Mahalo Steve! That's great news!

You have a wonderful site and we always appreciate your information and insight into all things Poly! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for your time and opinion...and now I'm more confused than ever :rotfl2: I did read your longhouse pages. Was just confused where the construction fit in with them. And I totally get that it's just a request, but I know they try to accommodate them so I'd like to ask least ask :)
We are standard (garden) view. Just don't want to be hearing/staring at construction, and semi close to GCH, don't mind being close to pool as I'm sure kids will have us there a bunch! Guess I should of included that info to begin with ! Sorry!

Samoa is on the same side as the pool in fact right in front of it. It is also on the same side as the current construction. Fiji is across the marina from the pool but pretty close to the GCH. Right now most of the construction is on the right side of the resort. What the future holds we do not know. For me at least I am going to request Fiji in hopes that we will get it. For me it is the best of both worlds being in a GV room. Nice view and pretty close to the GCH and on the other side of the resort from the current construction. It really is personal choice but these are the choices I have made for our family.

What are the thoughts about construction and the Hawaii longhouse? It doesn't seem to appear to impact the garden view from there, is that correct? We are booked CL in January and while I know that there will be construction and the volcano pool will be out of commission, we just couldn't stay away on this trip!
