Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Thank you so much for your time and opinion...and now I'm more confused than ever :rotfl2: I did read your longhouse pages. Was just confused where the construction fit in with them. And I totally get that it's just a request, but I know they try to accommodate them so I'd like to ask least ask :)
We are standard (garden) view. Just don't want to be hearing/staring at construction, and semi close to GCH, don't mind being close to pool as I'm sure kids will have us there a bunch! Guess I should of included that info to begin with ! Sorry!

Every longhouse has standard view rooms. The construction on the DVC will be on the east side (side closest to the TTC) of Tokelau. The pool construction will be next to Samoa and Niue and across the marina from Tuvalu and Fiji. The least affected areas will be the rooms facing luau cove and the rooms that face in at the east pool.

As far as honoring requests, it is not really a person deciding but they put your request into a system that is supposed to pick the best match. That is why how you describe your request and even how long the request is can be very important. I tell people to keep it simple. The best bet is to be educated on the locations so you can see what is available once you check in but if you do online check in they prefer you don’t hold up the process with asking to be relocated if you do not like the room assigned.

We just returned from a week at the Poly. We requested and were given two rooms in Fiji. One was a king room that faced the beach and Grand Floridian, the other two queens that faced marina and Contemporary. From both rooms we could watch the monorail, and from the two queens could see the EWP go by. Fiji is our favorite, close to GCH and pool, and an easy walk to the TTC.

Input appreciated! :goodvibes I'm currently trying to make plans for a large family gathering (with some guests making what will prob be their only trip to the world) and i have a few folks with leanings towards the poly :confused3 normally id say, awesome :thumbsup2 this is the perfect trip for it but now im concerned with the renovations. it will be late may/early june... is there any indication about the pool closure times? that would really break the deal with my little ones. we did stay at the gf during the dvc building last dec and that was completely fine... any thoughts tikiman? no biggie if it were just our fam but "making" the trip for the extended fam has me worried. btw im considering cl garden & would be split staying with beach club :thumbsup2

Blackdogg, I am in pretty much the exact same situation and am trying to decide if we should just go ahead and book the Poly ( which is the perfect fit for our group), and then just wait and see how the timing of the pool construction plays out? We are also going end of May/beginning of June and thinking of booking CL GV. BTW, we stayed at BC this summer and LOVED it!

Hello all-

Not sure if this has been discussed, but will this affect the Spirit of Aloha? Will it be permanently closed?

Thanks so much!
Brunette

Does anyone know what exactly pool resurfacing consists of? Would that merit fencing around the pool and lots of noise? Obviously it would be enough to close the pool, but just wondering how annoying it would be to walk past, for example. Will the quiet pool definitely be open while the main pool is worked on?

Trying to make a final decision between the Poly and other MK resorts for our stay this January (MLK weekend).

Really want to be at the Poly this time (it's been over ten years!) and not so concerned about the inability to swim, but just don't want the pool area to look like an eyesore with fencing, cranes, etc. since it's smack in the middle of the resort. :confused3

With Hawaii, do you think it would make a difference to request the west end as far as the sunset point construction? Or is it not that big enough of a building to matter?

Also, how awful is the ferry boat horn?

Can't answer the Hawaii question (although I assume the west end would be preferable), but the ferry boat horn is the best! :cloud9:

The building is pretty big. I think it would depend on what floor you're on whether the construction is going to be an eyesore. If you're on the third floor I think you'll notice it regardless of what end you are in. Although obviously you will have a much closer view at the East end. If you are on the first floor it probably won't be as noticeable.

And I second mariamouse's opinion ... LOVE the ferry horn. You don't really notice it that much with the sliders closed, but we keep the door open so we can hear it! :cloud9:

When we stayed in the Tahiti building, the ferry boat horn really bothered us. It was quite loud, and went long after we were in bed with our 2 kids. There was a marked improvement when we stayed in the Hawaii building. I really don't think it will bother you!:goodvibes We will be back in the Hawaii building in June. Can't wait!

Just got back from a 5 night stay at POFQ, but I did visit the Poly.....it's so beautiful as always....:lovestruc

But, here is a pic of the fence outside of Hawaii.

Anyone heard if the beach will stay open, and if the view of the fireworks will not be impeded?

Just found out that the resort monorail will be closed from Oct. 6 to Oct. 19 between the hours of 11am to 6pm. This will cover the whole time we are there. Between this and the construction, both of which I found out about after I booked, I'm not a very happy camper right now.:mad::mad:

I would be very mad too! I understand the need for closures from time to time but to tell guest the day before it goes into effect is just wrong!

That is very irritating....... More photos up over on tikimans FB

If monorail is closed between 11-6pm how will I get my mom the MK in her ECV for a 4pm dinner? The ferry that goes to the resorts is too small and won't allow ecvs.

That really stinks. LOL My mom will have a heck of a time getting the ECV on that bus for the MNSSHP. We have dinner at 4 that night at the CP and her ECV will have been transformed to a Cinderella Coach. Lights and a huge globe like thing. LOL I hope it fits on the bus or I'll raise holy hell. :D

I will be calling the Poly tomorrow and speaking with a manager friend there. I want to see if this is indeed true and why we weren't notified. We will be there from the 13th-20th and the monorail is a huge reason for us as we don't like taking the ECV on buses. MK is the only place we can avoid the buses so this puts a major crimp in our plans. I hope this isnt true.
