Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Are these lights just temporary to provide safety lighting during the supposed power outage? I hope the lights will be for safety only and not that work is planned for overnight!

I was thinking the same thing!! There are a few dis folks there now who have been updating, I guess we will see.

I am now totally freaking out! :scared1: I really hope these lights are just for safety for the power outage and will be gone soon. Someone on Tikiman's FB page said they have blue flags out in front of the Hawaii building. This is making me really nerves. We leave next Friday and I never got a letter about construction.:headache: I hope someone will report back soon about what is going on :listen: :surfweb:

I guess I am confused to see people who are surprised when they see stuff going on at the Polynesian. I would just understand that from now until the beginning of 2016 things will be going on. When exactly is not known but we know that there are plans to start this week and more into next week with the work around the beach for DVC. They are working on underground electrical and plumbing and that is not going to happen over night. Then they will start work on the structures for the bungalows. At some point Tahiti and Rapa Nui will close to be converted and new paths are going in all over the east side of the resort along with a complete redesign of the east parking lot. I am assuming that the electrical outage was to separate the area they are working on from the rest of the grid but that is just a guess. After a meeting they had at the resort telling the staff about some of the future plans it sounds like the pool and the GCH could start work earlier than expected but then there still is no official date. I guess what I am saying is that if you are staying at the Polynesian any time in the next 2 years than be prepared that something might be going on. Hopefully it will not affect your stay too much. I am sure they will do their best to keep the guests happy.

Also don't expect Disney to come out with any official schedule and I am sure some people who should have been notified slipped through the cracks but since people going in December have gotten letters than review the information about the letter that has been posted. You may not recieve one for one reason or another.

Don't worry and just go and enjoy your trip. Even if they get walls up next week I am sure you will still have a great time.

I check in this Saturday and did get a letter about 2 weeks ago. I am not gonna stress over something out of my control. Just gonna go and have a good time! Its Disney! They aren't going to ruin anyone's vacation!

Poly Vacation 9/14-9/21!!!!!

Thank you. I know we will have a great time. I knew that construction was gonna start this week, but I did not think that it would be in front of Hawaii already. If they are working in front of Hawaii I wish that I would have gotten a construction letter letting me know that or an email or phone call. Something would be nice. It is hard when you pay all that money for CL and they don't inform you of this kind of construction. After this trip we are gonna stay somewhere else til the construction is done.

They won't ruin my vacation, but I never got a letter. If it was not for this site and Tikiman, I would never know about any of this and would have been really mad when I got there to find out about the construction. I just wish that they would have reached out better about the upcoming construction.

I can understand, if I paid for a tpv and I was staring out over construction I would be mad too! No it would not ruin my vacation , but I would be mad if I had no notice or opportunity to make the decesion to move elsewhere.

I don't see the pictures of the lights that went up in front of Hawaii. Can someone point me in the right direction ? We leave for the Polynesian on Monday the 16th of Sept.

We have reservations for Dec 7-10 CL that I just made. I find it a bit disconcerting that Disney knows this property is going to be under construction but there's no notice at all when booking. :(
I guess we will try to switch to the GF. I'm not much of a gambler when paying full rack rate.

I had reservations for Dec 20 to 24th and just changed to an Annual Passholders rate last night and was able to add another day this morning. I am not letting the construction bother me one bit. I am hoping to be put on the other side of the resort and will ask for that but whatever happens happens. I have not received the letter yet and only know of the construction from here. I love the Poly and I am sure they will make it as low key as they can for their guests. I have no intention of changing resorts at all.

Since the family wants to stay at the Poly next August (even with the construction), which building would be good to request if we want to be away from the construction that will be taking place with DVC? I would be booking a garden view, no club level on this trip. Any suggestions?

I would suggest Fiji. It is on the other side of the resort from the construction and is where we are requesting for December and also for our Annual vacation next June. If you are staying standard view you can also request Areaotoa or Tuvalu. You would need to request garden side of both longhouses other wise with Areaotoa you might be looking at the parking lot or monorail and I believe the other side of Tuvalu is all lagoon and TPV views.

I think that answer would also depend on what is going on at gch and the pool area.

Absolutely. If major portions of the GCH were closed due to construction (especially restaurants), that would be a deal-breaker for many of us.

BTW in my post I was only saying what I am going to do and not what others should do. I would never venture to tell others what they should do with their vacation. I mean if asked what longhouse etc..... I will answer but I would never tell anyone to stay at a resort if they are leery of it.

I think you are a great example of an informed decision! Everyone needs to choose what's best for there family, and be sure to report from the field what you see;). For us , daytime construction noise would be a problem with little ones who nap. If my kids were bigger might not matter.

I appreciate everyone's recommendations, I really do and want to be informed of which longhouses would be away from the beach side construction, that's why I asked :). While having the pool closed and GCH closed would be a deal breaker for me, it doesn't seem to be a complete deal breaker for everyone else in my group, especially my youngest DD. She's determined to stay there for her sweet 16 so if it means, I have to book but maybe split my stay with another resort, then I'll "bite the bullet" and do it even though I hate split stays. I, like everyone else, will just continue to monitor the construction updates as I get closer to my date. I'm heading back to the world October 20th for 5 days with DH and we plan to eat at O'Hana one night...I'll be checking out the resort to see what's happening then.
