Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

A question for you Disney experts..

Lets say you have a reservation for the Poly for a week in January. In early October they release the discounts and you are able to have the discount applied to your January stay.

Shortly after you find out there enough construction that you want to switch to a different resort. Will the discount apply to the new resort? Or are you basically trapped at the Poly (if you want the discount)?

As long as the new resort also has the discount and there is availability, you will be able to switch.

Once you have the discount code applied to your stay you can change resorts or room levels up until you check in with the discount. We changed from SV to GV CL at the poly last year 3 wks before our stay and kept the RO discount. It would have been too late to make a new reservation with the discount. Of course, it depends on availability.

I called today to ask about the construction. Take this for what it's worth :)

I am going on 11/11 for a TPV. I called because I wanted to see which rooms would be available for that, and I specifically noted the concern that Tahiti would be closed then.

She took quite a bit of time actually, pulled up a couple documents (including the "letter" and something that only they get--some kind of construction calendar). She also put me on hold and made a call. She seemed clued in, not clueless.

She said the phase of "construction" they are doing now was largely expected to wrap up by November in the area of Tahiti, Tuvalu Rapa Nui and Hawaii. That the DVC construction was "just finishing" at the GF and they would NOT be doing any big DVC work "just yet" given the GF--when I said "next year?" she said yes, more like next year. She thinks Tahiti will be open into the season of my reservations.

So, for what it's worth and who knows.

I certainly hope this is true!!!

When you say availability, does that mean that there is a set number of rooms set aside for the discount? Or just general availability at the resort? (not sure if there's a difference there)

I'm just trying to figure out if I wait too long to decide to switch from Poly to something else for our January stay, am I going to somehow lose the discount.

I'm used to dealing with places that will try to get you on a loophole, just wondering what the loophole would be here.

Availability with the discount. A certain amt of rooms are set aside for the discount at each participating resort. You could make 2 reservations, and cancel one when it's closer and the construction schedule is clearer.

So when discounts are released in a few weeks, I could potentially book a room at the Poly and a room at CR with RO discount for the same dates? This would make me feel TONS better about booking, but I wasn't sure if they'd let you make 2 reservations or not...

You can hold multiple reservations. I know you can do it online through their website. If you called and there were any problem just put one under your partner's name (assuming 2 adults are going). But I know if you book online you can do it. I've done it when I was holding what room I could get and checking constantly to see if the room type or resort I really wanted popped up. When it did I made the new reservation, and still had the old one. I then called to cancel the original whenever it was convenient. I really wish you could change or cancel reservations online also, it's so odd that you can't. :confused3

This is assuming you're talking room only. Then you have until 5 days prior to cancel for a full refund. If you meant a package I think it's 45 days, which makes it harder. You do have to pay 1 nights deposit on both reservations, but you get the one back when you cancel unless it's less than 5 days prior.

Oops, I just reread your entire original question and see it was for room only. I guess I should do my homework before just posting and trying to cover all bases!

I tried to call and book a back up reservation at the Contemporary but the CM said it was not possible. After reading your post I went online and reserved the CR under my husbands name. Thank you so much!! Now I have my back up ressie in place and I can wait for more information about Poly construction and make my decision in a few months!

Glad I could help! :thumbsup2 When I held 2 in my own name one was for 2 additional days, maybe that was why they let them both be in my name? Or maybe b/c I booked them both on line, but at different times? I know when I called to make a haircut and pirates league reservation before I cancelled one of the resort reservations they never said anything to me on the phone about having 2 resort reservations. I assume they could see it on the computer when they brought my info up, as they ask every question under the sun before you get to the actual person!

I just read a report from someone in Hawaii right now, they were Delivered flashlights and told power will be off 2 a to 3a , wonder if this us the beginning of work on the lines?

I was told right before Fall Free Dining was released if they see you have two reservations, they would cancel both! Not sure of the likelihood of them finding it, but I didn't want to take the chance! :scared:

Wow that is not good at all, what about guests like me who use a CPAP machine.

Someone posted photos of construction lights dropped along a few areas of the resort including beachside volcano pool.

Tikiman,
Do you have a link for those photos, please?

Thanks you!!!

Yes, you can hold two reservations for the same timeframe, and just cancel one at a later time before you reach the "penalty" stage. The trick is that the reservations cannot have the same "lead guest", and you cannot change the name of the "lead guest" at a later time (you can only change the names of the accompanying guests). So, for example, I am currently holding a Poly reservation under my name, and a GF reservation under my husband's name. Our trip is 2014, so we'll hopefully know a lot more about the Poly construction by that point. By the way, this approach (and the rules governing it) was carefully explained to me by a helpful CM on the phone when I called, and we were able to set up two room-only reservations this way. :thumbsup2

I am considering doing this too. so I assume it is two 200 deposits?!

If you are booking 2 packages, it's $200 per booking.

If you are booking 2 room only, it's the cost of 1 night's stay per booking. So if you're booking a room only at Poly and GF, the two deposits will be quite a bit more than $200.

Someone posted photos of construction lights dropped along a few areas of the resort including beachside volcano pool.

Are these lights just temporary to provide safety lighting during the supposed power outage? I hope the lights will be for safety only and not that work is planned for overnight!
