Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

At 2:20 till about 2:28 you get a glimpse of the current 'beach' at the Polynesian. Everything 'east' towards the TTC is blocked off due to construction.

Do you know what the big A frame structure is at 2:37? Is that a new longhouse behind the volcano? Or redoing the top of something? Just curious.

I believe they're combining the Makala Canoe Club Marina and 'Hair Wrap & Towel Stand' into one building, one location.

The Marina will operate on the side that faces the dock, and the 'towel stand', on the pool-facing side.

I'm not sure if we'll see any 'upgrade' to the services previously offered by the Towel Stand... or if they're just receiving a fancy new house!

As far as I can tell... The Barefoot Pool Bar is remaining in it's current location.

Sorry for all the questions, so do you think this is part of the "pool construction" that will done in Spring 2015 or this continue throughout the East Pool, etc.?

When the new pool opens... I do fully expect it to be the 'entire' pool deck: main pool, children's area, hot tub, cabanas, and pool bar, including the towel shack... all tucked away in the 'safety' of a new pool fence.

That building appears to be a construction aspect of the Main Pool project (Spring 2015).

Like many others, I too have a "magical" reservation for August and have been following Tikiman on Facebook daily. For now, I'm going to hold onto our reservation but as we get closer, I may jump ship if I see that the main pool won't be finished (that is the deal breaker for us). Question for those who've stayed in Hawaii bldg....do most of the CL std view/garden view rooms face the quiet pool? If so, I may also have to go back to the family to see if "construction view" is going to be a problem...ugh, so much to think about!!

Just an FYI, rooms booked thru the "magical" deal cannot be upgraded at all...that is the one thing my agent made very clear to us from the beginning.

mommyrosa2, I have the same dilemma. I think if you're closer to the main pool, there will be less of a construction view. I also wonder if first floor rooms might be better off, because from a balcony, you probably can't miss the construction. I texted my sister to find out if she'd be bothered by the construction. I won't care, to be honest, and my toddler could not care less about the view. My oldest daughter really won't mind, either, as long as there is a good pool to swim in. As long as the main pool is open, we'll probably stay put. My sister and niece are only there two nights before we move to the BC. Still, I don't want them to be put off by the construction. So if she thinks it's going to be a mess, I'll see about moving to the WL for those nights.

Some of the first floor rooms facing beach are now re categorized as GV because bungalows now block view.

When we stayed at GF on magical deal we got free upgrade. And my girlfriend got free upgrade at YC to quiet pool view.
I'd try for paid upgrade, some CMs may do it?

I'm fairly certain main pool will be open for us in Aug :-)

The smaller beach in front of Luau Cove is also currently open and construction free.

Okay, so not trying to sound too negative, but it looks to me that you can no longer see the castle dead on, and that means the fireworks will be off center. I know it's a small thing, but it really makes me sad  And, given the amount of people we've always seen on the beach at fireworks time, this must be a very crowded little space....

Sadly, you are correct... for the time being atleast!

Once construction fences come down... we'll have a true understanding of just how impactful those Bungalows are to the sight lines from the Beach.

I'm sure guests will be able to stand on the beach... as centered as possible for a Castle View... and watch fireworks like previous visits. But...

Will the bungalow(s) completely obstruct the view of the Castle itself? What about the shallower pyro effects... will we still see those?

:worried:

From construction pictures... Sunset Point looks to be a decent option, slightly elevated to offer sight lines over the Bungalows.

Anxiously awaiting for those construction fences to come down!

Oh, I thought Sunset Point was gone forever!! Are they putting it back where it was, or moving it? That was such a great little spot...

Yes! Still there.... in the exact same spot!

I'm speculating just as many of you are doing as well. Once the Lava pool is completed, we don't know how noisy or busy the quiet pool construction is going to be. I'm sure no one will want a room facing that area! It seems to me to be quite a small area, in between all the buildings, at least from what I can see in the photos. I'm hoping that there will be no construction at night, so we don't hear machinery. I'm going in November and I am feeling that the quiet pool will not be completed....it just seems to take a long time for a complete redesign....if that is what they are doing. There hasn't been much said about that pool, so not sure if they are revamping the whole area, or just rejuvenating it. If anyone hears any buzz about that project I'd be interested in hearing more. Lets all keep wishing for the most magical stay, even if the place isn't perfect! LOL!

If you stand on the left side of the remaining beach area and look toward the castle the bungalows do not block the castle. The beach will be smaller once the pool area is done but there is still beach that has a direct view of the castle.

The entire pool will be removed and the whole area around the pool will be redone with the addition of some structures a new pool and a hot tub. The structures will house a new bar and grill and some other things. This will be a major effort which is why it will take until the end of this year or the beginning of next to complete it.

We had a "family" meeting last night and everyone agreed main pool open is a must but no one cared if we had a "construction" view as we won't be spending much time in the room during the day anyways.

Both my DD's really want to stay at the Poly and we've already booked my youngest DD's senior photo shoot to take place at Poly and GF grounds soooo unless the pool isn't open, we all agreed we are not switching!! And while I normally won't stay ground level at any resort and usually request upper floor...I may just make an exception for this trip and actually request "ground floor away from construction" just to see if we get lucky enough with one of those rooms overlooking the water/bungalows...you never know!

As for upgrading...even though our agent told us we couldn't upgrade, we did try to pay for it twice. Once at the BC which was a no go but at least the CM was nice about it and again last year when we stayed at the GF (that CM was NOT the most pleasant in the bunch and we got a very stern NO ). But you are right Sue, Disney can & has upgraded "magical" folks so maybe we'll get lucky?! I'll still try :).

Thank you for your response. You mentioned an entirely new pool and hot tub in the quiet pool area. Does this mean there will be two hot tubs at Poly? It is my understanding that there will be a hot tub in the Lava pool area. I'm hoping to use it in November. Just when I thought I knew what was going on!

The lava pool will have an infinity style hot tub facing the lagoon. The plan for the new East Pool (AKA leisure pool or Oasis pool) will be for a smaller hot tub toward the Hawaii longhouse.

So I was really excited to be staying at the new Polynesian Villas in April. I'm looking at the video that was posted from mouse steps and some of these photos. This is INSANE- how could Disney even keep this resort open right now? I thought there would be some areas where you don't feel the construction creeping in on you but sadly this appears not to be the case at all. This is some serious crap going on right now at the Poly. Switching to the grand floridian.. or maybe just say forget the whole area I'll stay at port orleans french quarter where the isn't a single construction wall in sight.

Why, thank you again, kind sir! I'm just thrilled about all the improvements. This will be my first time staying at Poly. The addition of the hot tub (aka infinity hot tub) is my passion for relaxing at night. I'm just thrilled!
