Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Our first Poly stay will be on September 8-18. How bad should the construction REALLY be at that time? Shouldn't everything be done, except for the quiet pool? Should we request a room near the marina just in case we want to avoid construction noise? How much will the construction situation take away from our first "Poly experience"?

The official Disney line is that the lobby and Volcano pool will be done by "Spring 2015". So you should be safe. Of course, without a time machine there's no way to tell for sure.

The idea of switching resorts is making me sick This is my mom's first trip since the early 90s & it was always her dream to stay here but the main pool not being done is not going to work for us. We have always been a quiet pool family but one little pool is not enough for the whole resort. I have Ressies @ Ohana & Kona that I would need to cancel & find something else to replace it plus we are a party of 5 so I don't even know what are other options are.
The recent pics of the main pool seem to be showing a ton of progress so I am remaining hopeful that it will be done by early June.

Also his statement about the amount of construction, well the resort has actually seen a few other times in its history where it has had about this much construction going on in the past so I don’t think Disney figured it was any worse than before. The difference is back during those other large projects there was no internet and people were not Tweeting about everything detail every day.
Twitter used to mean something entirely different: :D

Samoa king rooms only face the east pool. Fiji king rooms only face the luau and Rarotonga has king rooms on both sides.

Do you think they will block rooms facing East Pool during construction? When I was there Front Desk CM said yes, but I'm not sure. Perhaps he was just speculating because Samoa facing main pool is blocked for construction.

After reading anything and everything I could come across online I've decided to wait it out thanks to a thread I found about changing resorts. I'm willing to put up with construction if main pool done. The thing that really scared me was the video of the construction posted this past week. When I saw that I started reading and searching and freaking out. Honestly to me it looks like a war zone from that "up top" view. Now down walking I'm sure it's much nicer. I've decided to jump ship last minute and pay the fee if it's not done and hope for something else decent to be available in my price range. Fingers crossed for the first week in May! Thanks to Tikiman for all his hard work and keeping us informed.:thumbsup2

I feel silly asking this but hey ho! :goodvibes

What buildings are now DVC and what buildings will still be nearest construction by Labor Day weekend? We have booked standard view through the "magical" deal though I was hoping to pay to upgrade to lagoon view when we arrive as the lagoon view isn't available through the deal. My kids are peculiar with their naps, well DS1 is very set in his ways, DS2 goes with the flow. So I really really want to be away from the noise of any construction. Also it's our first time to stay on site after annoying DH for years so I really really want him to fall in love with it so he will take less persuading to go back next time.

And as we booked through a TA I can't add any requests to our room so it must be done through the TA right? I've just asked her to note down that it's my birthday while we are there and our first time on-site, should I ask her to note a specific longhouse? Sorry for the long, possibly inane post!

Two things.

If you want him to fall in love, don't go in September the year. There will still be construction, and it is invasive and can easily turn him off the place, especially if it's your first stay.

If you do go, go west. Most of the construction is on the east side, and most people who stay on the west say they aren't bothered by the construction.

Like many others, I too have a "magical" reservation for August and have been following Tikiman on Facebook daily. For now, I'm going to hold onto our reservation but as we get closer, I may jump ship if I see that the main pool won't be finished (that is the deal breaker for us). Question for those who've stayed in Hawaii bldg....do most of the CL std view/garden view rooms face the quiet pool? If so, I may also have to go back to the family to see if "construction view" is going to be a problem...ugh, so much to think about!!

Just an FYI, rooms booked thru the "magical" deal cannot be upgraded at all...that is the one thing my agent made very clear to us from the beginning.

I hope someone can answer this question. We are only staying at the Poly for one night next month. We got the letter about the pool being closed and being able to go to Typhoon Lagoon. Is this option only available the day we check in or can we use this option the day of check out? We want to take advantage of this if the pool isn't opened by next month. I am trying to decide if we need to make it our check in date or can it be next day. I know it's weird because we are only staying 1 night before we check into Boardwalk.

I'm having a hard time envisioning what the beach area of the Poly looks like right now. Is there any beach that looks out toward the castle that is unobstructed right now? I'm wondering how many construction walls will come down by April

I think the west side of the resort offers a pretty unobstructed view of the castle from the beach, and there is about 100 feet of beach on the east side between the pool construction screens and the DVC villas that is unencumbered.

I think they do if I remember correctly.

First floor CL has you in a trick box -- you can look at the villas or, come whenever, you can look at the new construction.

We stayed at Poly last month for five nights, but my parents stayed for only one night. In the end, it was too cold for Typhoon Lagoon, but I asked the Poly CL CMs the same question for my parents. The CMs said yes, they get the tickets and can use them either day.

Interesting! I had no idea that those rooms in Samoa were currently out of inventory... though it makes complete sense! In Samoa's case, the distance from the Main Pool deck to Samoa is nearly identical to the East Pool deck distance... so it wouldn't surprise me to see them 'block off' certain rooms.

My only hesitation to that idea would be that all East Pool Courtyard facing rooms in 5 buildings, are all in the similar situation. That's nearly 1/4 of available Garden View Rooms, 85% of Club Level Garden View, and 1/4 of Standard View DVC Studios... so it seems unlikely all rooms affected by possible construction would close.

As long as Tokelau proceeds without issue... all DVC additions should be complete by your arrival. The Bungalows, Pago Pago, and Moorea should all open in April.

Given the East Pool construction, rooms facing that courtyard in Hawaii (Club Level), Samoa, Niue, and Rarotonga will most likely be affected.

There is no harm in asking for a 'paid' upgrade at check-in. I was unaware that those of who booked under the Magical Deal would not be granted such a request... but I still don't see the harm in asking. Given that there are only a few Lagoon View rooms available with the loss of Tahiti... I wouldn't be surprised if there was simply no availability.

Yes, you'll have to make any 'notes' on your reservation through your TA. Our reservation currently reads 'Fiji, King bed' as that's our desired location. We will then partake in online check-in and check off our two top requests: Fiji Building and Balcony. **this sample of online check-in is out of date as you'll notice with the available buildings**

You should have no issue attending on your check-out day.

At 2:20 till about 2:28 you get a glimpse of the current 'beach' at the Polynesian. Everything 'east' towards the TTC is blocked off due to construction.

The smaller beach in front of Luau Cove is also currently open and construction free.
