*** Official OCTOBER 2021 Countdown Group - HAPPY 50th ANNIVERSARY WDW! ***

We'll be there October 9th-16th. We had planned on renting a two bedroom at AKL but were told there is no availability. So we moved to OKW. Has anyone stayed there and have some tips for us? The one thing I'm seeing as a negative is the lack of indoor sitting for a CS restaurant. Really hoping for a MNSSHP, FP, fireworks and parades!

We stayed in a 2br at OKW and loved the huge villa. The bus service was good, too. The restaurant is small and the counter service options are very limited. But hopefully the boat to Disney Springs will be open by then and you can enjoy those restaurants. We had breakfast in the room everyday morning and then all of our other meals, except one dinner, at a park or Disney Springs. :)

Hello, all! I thought I was here already but looking at the roll call, I guess I hadn't officially joined.

We will be staying at The Poly 9/30-10/6 and BLT 10/6-10/8. We already have our PP reservation for MK on 10/1 :cool1:

WDW just OFFICIALLY announced there will be an 18 month long celebration starting on 10/1! I was giddy just watching the announcement on GMA!

Nice, we will be at the Poly at the same time towards the end of your stay there. I saw the little clip this morning also and am so excited to see the castle and the new Epcot entrance.

The mint and the navy we paid $14 (one was on sale for $7) on shop Disney, so it just shipped.

The yellow and light blue we got through MDE for our trip for $5 each. Since you purchase them now instead of being free, they ship right away.
Oh wow.. I had no idea they are shipping them so quick!! Awesome to know!! Thanks 😊

So how excited is everyone for the new look of the Castle and the new lights that will be on Spaceship Earth when we go in October???

I think it's going to be beautiful!!! Especially Spaceship Earth!!!

I think they look beautiful! But more importantly, did anyone notice that in the announcement, they show all the park icons lit up…at NIGHT?? I'm hoping this means they are thinking parks will be open later and dare I say, maybe even be back to nighttime entertainment

Oh yes. I hope this means Animal Kingdom will be open for at least a couple hours after dark!

I don't know if this image (stolen from the internet) will show, but why else would they make their announcement with everything lit up?

I love the new lighting packages for the anniversary but I will just say from a totally goofy and selfish standpoint I’m really gonna miss the old Spaceship Earth colors because it was lit up exactly like the bi pride flag at night. Me and my gf used to crack jokes that it was a giant coded message and Dame Judi was really saying “thank the bisexuals" :rotfl2:

Well, I hate being "that guy" that always posts the bad news, but now Fauci said this morning that he expects masks mandates to be unchanged until at least Christmas 2021.

For us, that's a no-go, because I'm not forcing my 2-year-old, who doesn't understand anything about Covid, to wear a mask that she hates while on vacation.

I might procrastinate making a final decision for a while, but we are probably going to postpone until October 2022.

That's not exactly what he said. He said "it's possible" because how can he give a yes or no answer when asked if we will need masks at a certain time? He can't. This is how he explained his comments:

“The point I was trying to make is that people ask you to make a projection when there are so many variables in there that are unpredictable,” Fauci told Gayle King on CBS This Morning on Monday.

“So, when I said we might be, I didn’t say we absolutely are going to be wearing them, I’m saying it is quite conceivable that if we actually go into the fall and the winter and there is still a degree of virus in the community, despite the fact that many people have been vaccinated – we certainly will likely, very likely be much better off then than we are now – but it is conceivable that there will be enough virus in the community that in order to be extra safe, we may have to be wearing masks under certain circumstances," he continued.
“That’s the only point that I was making, I was not trying to scare people. I’m saying we’ve got to be prepared, that variables are there and we can get another surge,” Fauci added.

While it would be nice to be mask-free in October, we never planned on it when booking the trip.
And you never know what can happen.

But I agree that if you don't want to wear a mask, probably best to postpone until you know for sure.

Thanks for the clarification. I don't mean to be overly pessimistic. And I certainly don't intend to tell anyone else what to do regarding Covid restrictions.

At this point, I'm tired of planning and then canceling for a third time, so we might just go camping or something instead.

I hear you! Fellow 2 year old parent here, its hard! I will say where we live she needs to wear a mask anywhere outside of our home, so she is pretty used to it, and didn't have a major issue in November, your 2 year old may surprise you. However, i also get the not wanting to go with a mask thing too!

Thanks for understanding. My state (Washington) has a mask mandate, but only for kids 5-years old and over, so DD has never worn a mask, and I have no interest in "training" her to one, since I am convinced that these masks are going away soon (just maybe not soon enough for our vacation).

Ugh 5 I am so jealous! It is 2 and up here, so we had to train her early, and to be honest she has been so good about it overall. If my state was 5, i probably would skip too. But since she is used to it already and has to wear it to go to the playground, or to walk to the store with me she is pretty good for the most part.

I do agree they will go away, eventually, but Disney may keep them a bit longer then other places.
