Official May 2009 Thread....The wait is on!!

Just an FYI to everyone, they've made changes to park hours for the week of May 2nd to 9th. Now Magic Kingdom is open to the general public on May 3rd until 11pm when it was 10pm before. They also added a spectro that night. I think they also extended the hours at DHS but I'm not sure.

The down side is that they probably are expecting large crowds. That's why they extended hours, don't you think?

Ugh, yes. The crowd predictions for this May are crazy. I hope they are wrong!

Good news May Dissers!!! Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled for liftoff on May 12th at 1:31 pm, so anyone at disney that day should be able to look east and see it go up, or you can make your way over here to the coast to see it! It's an awesome sight if you have never seen it, I live here and it NEVER gets old!!! NEVER!!!

Oh we don't have set plans for that day either. Thanks for letting us know.

Not a waiter either! I mean in lines Well, not the other kind either
Anyway...EMH in the a.m. is my plan. Get there for rope drop and knock out the major rides, leave when madness starts and go back top the resort, swim and sleep! Go back to a park that evening for fireworks or parade then, maybe to EMH in the p.m. But, if I do a.m. EMH, I find it is very hard to do pm. EMH also during the week so sometimes I have to choose! I might can do both a.m. and p.m. a few times but I don't want to hit that wall of tiredness either!
Remember the key to FP is that you can get your next one either once your existing FP return time starts or 2 hours after you get the first one (regardless of when the return time is) and you can use the FP AFTER the return time expires (as a general rule). I didn't know that until I read it on here. Lost my FP rides on lots of expired FPs because I did not know this!

I hate waiting too. Since 2001 I've been once at the end of Oct (parks were empty since it was just after 9/11), twice the first week of December and once in May (last May). Last May was the busiest time I have been but it was totally managable and not anywhere near super high crowds.

We are not on-site so my plan is the opposite. Avoid EMH parks and get there early. Get the big rides and must-do's done and then just go with the flow.

I can't beleive how close it is now! I have got to start planning on what to pack, what to buy etc., How many swim suits for a week stay? Staying at the CBR and will probabloy use the pool a lot. I was thinking 2 swim suits. Also-do you take your own towels to the water park?

Hi! I'm just joining this thread now. My friend told me all about the month threads on here when I suggested these boards to her. I had no idea there were month specific message boards. It's like being pregnant again. LOL

We're going May 1-3 for a fast trip. We're seasonal passholders so we are lucky enough to go several times a year. DH and I went on our first alone vacation to WDW March 13-15 for my birthday and we took our girls there in February. I think this trip will be our last until October or so since the blackout dates. Plus I don't like going over the summer anyway because of the heat. You would think this FL girl would do better in the heat but it makes me miserable. LOL

I am so bummed that Fantasmic is only running 2 days a week now. We didn't get a chance to go in Feb or March and had hoped to see it this trip. It's my family's absolute favorite show. I really hope the parks aren't TOO crowded when we go. It's less than 2 weeks away and I can't wait!

Anyone know WHY they are predicting such huge crowds at the beginning of May?

We're offsite this time and with very young kids, so I actually think we may not spend a lot of time in the parks. We'll avoid EMH parks, go early if we can, do whatever rides we can manage, and plan to be back at the townhouse by lunch time.

ohhh thats my birthday! Thanks for the info. I was there in November and saw the night launch at Downtown Disney. Now I know I'll be at Epcot when this shuttle is launched. Is there a good place in Epcot to see it? Thanks!

I bring one big beach towel from home. Then I bring a couple per person from our resort pool area. The last time we were at TL I believe we had to pay for the towels there but it might have been just a deposit and you got it back if you returned them but I'm not sure. I just don't want to stand in line to return them when it is closing and everyone else is at the counter (badhouse!) so I bring my own from the resort and bring them back there.
